Benkai was raised by his father and mother. He had a normal upbringing. He attended the ninja academy in konohagakure, recieving high grades in every subject. He focused most of his interest in genjutsu and stratagy subjects and plans to make that his ninja path
During the trails of a genin, Benkai learned much about genjutsu. He thought he was unbeatable, till he lost a spar with a rival genin. He lost because of his inexperience in close combat and over use of his chakra. He took it upon himself to train with his senbon day and night. After four months of hard training, he became proficient with his senbon. He could block, attack, and counter attack, as well as throw them. Therefore eliminating his weakness with fist fighting.
