Today we went to petco so my boyfriend could get some bamboo shrimp.. I went over to look at the rats, and a ferret caught my attention instead. I asked if I could hold it, the guy said yes.
But WOW are they chompy, lol. Reach in to pet the one, and they ALL run over to see what I'm doing. And everyone starts chewing on me like I'm a chew toy! (he did warn me that they tend to bite) One of them wasn't a chomper, it was a biter! When it was time for me to leave, he had to pry it off my finger, lol. Silly little thing, I'm not food! The one I originally went over to see kept climbing out onto me though. Way to make my heart melt!! heart
I had an awesome time though. I don't mind being bit, my cats bite me all the time and I guess I handle it really well.
Definitely can't afford a ferret, and not too sure I'd ever want one, but it was great being able to play with them all. I wonder if I could play with a rat next time..
And for extra discussion: Ever have any random fun at a petstore like that before?

I always have the overpowering urge to play with the baby petstore ferrets. They are always so excited for any contact but yes, they tend to be like mouthy puppies before they are socialized. They don't realize us soft flesh humans don't have near as thick skin as they do.

I've decided if I come to a place I can have ferrets I'm going to a rescue and adopting.

Yeah, they were all basically chewing on me like a puppy would. Except the one that was biting. It wasn't out to harm me, but it was definitely hard enough to get my attention and be like "hey now!"
Apparently one of them managed to break skin, but that's nothing that a little hand sanitizer and soap+water doesn't fix! But now I'm covered in tiny red scratch marks. <3
Boyfriend said probably never to ferrets... he said he's not fond of how they smell.

The petstores here don't have ferrets. Only rabbits, hamsters(all kinds), guinea pigs, mice and sometimes rats and birds and fish.
I always have to take a look at those pets. Especially the rabbits. I used to have a rabbit wen I was small, but my father sold to someone else. I still want one again, but I don't have the space for it right now.
And the hamsters and mice are just adorable. gonk

I don't have petsmart or petco here. There's some in Ontario, but they only have cats that come from rescues. The stores around here sell dogs and cats and every type of animal but I don't trust the sources. If they sell dogs and cats they don't care about supporting mills and BYB so, I can't even look at them most of the time. I get what I need if I can't buy it elsewhere and try not to scream at the people shopping for pets there. Once I took a quick look at the rats and decided they were no where NEAR as cute as my babies.

[startramble]I've had some good experiences working in a pet store. I've never been on the floor directly with the animals, but if we need a photo of one, or I'm in the right dept. in the right time, I get to see them. =D We also do customer photos with snakes a couple times a year for charity - a local herp society/reptile rescue brings in some of their snakes that are used to big events and lots of people. I've gotten to hold some great red-tail boas and Burmese pythons. One this year decided to sit with her head on top of mine and watch the customers outside our photo area.
There was also the time the herp rescue's founder visited one of our big sales and had his Sulcata tortoise in one of the safe areas of the reptile room, with a small balloon on one leg to easily track where he was. xd Abraham didn't notice that thing on his leg, but it was so cute!
Ooh, and there was also the time a customer brought his monkey into the store with him (he was an experienced handler and had owned her for 16 years, BTW), and the one time I visited our local PetSmart an met a couple who raised a few mastiff breeds. They had an almost-full-grown Tibetan mastiff and a full grown (gigantic) English mastiff with them. [/endramble]
