I went to Petsmart yesterday to get some Wellness Pure Rewards for Bandit since he's almost out of his other treats (the Wellness ones that weren't grain free), and I encountered a woman who has a super cute, tiny chihuahua. My best friend and I were talking to her. Another woman who had a cute Pekineses puppy in her cart came over and we all started chatting. The subject of food came up, and we had started talking about feeding raw. The woman with the chihuahua had told me to make sure I drain all the blood before I give my dog raw because she thinks that once a dog tastes blood, they will develop an appetite for blood and will turn you, and will decide they will kill any animal... She says she had a couple loose pit bulls kill a cat of hers, and assumed the pits were being fed raw and/or had tasted blood and had a lust for more blood or something... I had to walk away before I ended up saying something I would later regret to her. I had gotten so pissed off at her... I about wanted to leap on her... >.< Her cat got killed because she was irresponsible and let her cat run loose outside, and the owners of the pitbulls let their dogs run loose unattended and didn't properly train their dogs either, not because the pit bulls had gotten a taste of blood........ >.< If she didn't want anything of the sort to happen to the cat, she should have made it indoor-only. If you let your cat outside, you're taking the risk of something killing it. >.< People with this type of mind set piss me off... >.<

I've never gotten the logic of people that let their animals roam and then are surprised when they end up dead. I mean it would be like sticking my mantises out on my tree and then being surprised if a bird or lizard decided to eat them...

Neither do I... I am not willing to make that risk, which is why my cat is indoor only and why any and all cats I get will be indoor only. My dog is primarily indoor, only outside on leash, tie-out, or for fetch or some other play activity. My cat does get to go outside every now and then, but that's only on leash... Why can't more people take responsibility for their actions? >.< It drives me crazy... >.<

I believe cats should be subject to the same leash laws as dogs.

I agree. It drives me crazy when I have someone's cat walk across our yard (we've even had one walk across our car, leaving muddy paw prints all over it). I also can't stand it when my best friend and I are walking our dogs, and a cat walks across our path because her dog LOVES to try to chase after them, and no matter how hard we've tried to train her out of it, she continues to anyways (her mom refuses to allow head harnesses such as gentle leader to be used because she thinks they are cruel.... >.< ), but at least leash laws on cats would help us to be able to do something about it...

Not that everyone follows leash laws, as the owners of those pits weren't. We have neighbors who don't and their dogs are nuisances, making it difficult for those of us who do follow the leash laws to be able to walk our dogs and also makes it difficult to drive. >.<

They are where I live, technically. It's just not really enforced. The town's laws say that all dogs and cats must be leashed when outside.

This is why I don't really stop to talk to people about pets. People in my area are complete idiots, and I'd be angry too often.

I like to talk to people about pets. Never know, I was able to inform someone about how horrible most of the big name brands of pet foods, such as Purina, Iams, Science Diet, etc. are for your pets, and suggested she try Wellness Core, Blue Buffalo's grainless lines, etc, after describing what I had observed what happened on my dog with Purina Beneful, and changing him over to Wellness Core, and the differences I was seeing in him (I've changed him over to Orijen, and am already seeing even more improvements!) And she sounded genuinely interested and it sounded like she was indeed going to change her dog over from Purina Beneful (the brand she was about to get) to one of the foods I suggested. biggrin So, it can definitely be beneficial to talk to them too.

I guess I didn't really think of it that way. I'm not wonderful at talking to people, and I have a feeling that most people in my area might not care what I have to say anyway. I live in an area where it's rare to find anyone who really cares about their pets.

Ah, I see why you wouldn't talk to anyone in your area... It's really sad that there are so many people with the mind set of not caring about their pets enough to give them the proper food...

I have gotten to the point that if I see any animal running loose I either take it to the shelter or if I know the owner I'll call the cops on them.
Where I live they take the leash laws very seriously, anyone who is caught with there pets out of a fence or running wild will get a fine and possible get their animals taken away to the shelter.

If they cant keep their animals put up then they don't deserve them in my book.
