Gawd I hate Thursdays. My nursing class is suppose to start at 8:30. But our teacher expects us there at 8 unless were coordinator that day, and then we start at 7. And for the past 2 weeks she's been late. Then the 5hr class should have a break in the middle and at the end, before the 2hr theory, and then we should be done. However, our teachers don't grasp the concept of a "break" and expect us to go back after class is over to clean up. (Rather than finish 30mins before to allow time to clean.)

That being said, our quizes, which are worth virtually nothing, are "station" quizes, so, basically at 8am I have a fake scenario and I have to set up the anesthetic machine. Once that's done, calculate drugs for the real deal. We were learning the reasons why certain drugs are given together by giving them seperately first. So I was in charge of giving my cat Ketamine intra muscular. He was not holding still, I screwed up royally twice, finally the teacher took the needle and did it herself. My partner gave the Valium and the Morphine. I got my catheter in no problem. Course the easy part of taping took me a while. My teacher was hard core picking on me today. I was brainwashed to fear hitting the spinal cord, and she was trying to get me to use the lumbar muscle so she started stabbing the cat attempting to prove how hard it was to hit the spine. (Cat was asleep at this point)

Because we're never given a break, I survived off two granola bars and some rice crisps all day. I never printed my assignment so my theory teacher gave me s**t. She already hates my guts. Then I had to go back and clean up. The cat WE had, was not a feral, he got vaccines and needed a certificate. Someone printed it up for me so I filled it out. Only to realize it had the wrong vet name on it. My coordinator (the real one of the school not the pretend student one) told me to redo it. By the time I did the vet was long gone, so after making me reprint it, she forged the vets signature, so really that all felt pointless. And yess, forging is probably bad, but, honestly most of the time the vet's are not even in the room when we give the vaccine it's just for reference really. By the time I was leaving school it was 5.

Jeez, that sounds ghetto. Do they let the owner's know that students will be doing it? When we got Sugar fixed they told us right out that was why it would be so cheap, lol.

They also shouldn't be allowed to not give you a break! You need to relax a bit and eat so you don't mess up!! Dangerous stuff, this. Sorr you had such a bad day!

Yes, they explain to the owners this is a school, there is no profit involved so it' cheap, but they have to sign a paper agreeing that as with every anesthetic procedure there are some risks, which are minimized with constant monitoring. They also agree that the students may practice certain techniques on their asleep animal which may require shaving. If they don't sign, or have issues with that, we refer them to a real clinic where they pay the real price. Which has never happened.

There is one other clinic that neuters for next to nothing but they don't do proper GPE or bloodwork. The vet (my surgery teacher) will do about 50 cats in a day and simply checks the heart and overall appearance of the cat and goes.

I'm tempted, I wouldn't really know who to talk to though, and I'd only do it anonymously but feel like they might suspect me or throw a s**t fit. I understand being in school 7-7 during duty week, because it's explained to us from the start that for that one week we're assigned we are expect to be there for those hours. This class however, the teacher acts like, it's a real clinic, we neutered 5 cats yesterday and stayed outside class hours to clean. And we're the third group, so, she should have known it would take 5hrs. She just doesn't care.

But what has me really fuming right now is that, when I took micro (and failed it) the in class quizes were worth 20% and the exam only 15. This year it seems they switched it. If it had been like that when I took it, I never would have failed and I would be graduating this year instead of next. Being in school a whole extra year is going to cost me a lot more money. And yeah, I should have done better it is partly my fault, but I find it ridiculous that something we read on our own and haven't been over in class yet at the end, is worth more than the exam that we prepare for. I failed by 2% all because of those stupid quizes that I never read the chapter they were on.
