How many of you are still actively drawing in your spare time? I've been finding it hard to find some off time for drawing although I'll get into the draw the person about you game. It's sad that not more people get into it. I only see a select few amount of people actually participate. It's helped my art improve immensely or at least show my arts progression.

Hey everyone you should post links to your art wips or finished and I'll comment and try and critique. Since I don't know who's active I don't want to go around commenting on people who aren't here. So don't be afraid lol!

Questions:

How many of you still draw in your spare time?

What got you into drawing and what do you like drawing now?

Do you feel like we can get this guild active again?

Here, I'll answer you questions ^.^ Perhaps others will as well if one person does.

I haven't drawn in a long time, to be honest, not that I was exceedingly good when I used to draw (I'd like to say, below average XD). I recently started to pick back up drawing though because someone was drawing pictures for me and a few others and I mentioned I might try to draw something to her. A year and a half has not been kind on my drawing skills, at all. It's been rather harsh actually, so I'm basically having to try to relearn techniques. I'm starting to draw again in my spare time, but it's still not a very wide occurrence.

I got into drawing... mainly because I had images of the characters I wrote about in stories and I wanted to put these visualizations on paper. It was a good way to start, and somewhere in there I started drawing landscaped. Turns out, I really do enjoy drawing landscapes because I have a concrete example right in front of me of what I'm drawing. I'd like to put more effort into manga drawing though because I can use my landscape drawings well enough in a manga, I just need the people >.<; So, It's a work in progress. Perhaps someday I'll seriously start trying to teach myself how to draw again rather than drawing every so often.

I'd say yes, but it'll take some work. The Guild's been around for a long time and has quite a number of people. It's just a matter of getting people back to posting things up.

I'll join this discussion...

I do, but I moved out of state over the summer and most of my things are still at my parents place on the East Coast, including my tablet and scanner. The only way I can upload anything is using my digital camera...and we all know how that goes. I'll post more often once I at least have my scanner.

I blame Disney movies for getting me into drawing. I wanted to be a Disney animator when I was 6 and I doodled on any scrap of paper I could find. Including wallpaper. I got into trouble quite often for doodling on my schoolwork but I never stopped. I slipped in to random pointless doodles in college, less character and landscape work and more weird letters and 3D shapes. Then I got back into writing and drawing my OC's, and remembered why I liked drawing so much as a kid. I still kind of wish I could be a Disney animator, but I know I'm not at that level in reality.

I know we can. We are still getting new members every few days. We just need more posting action from current members to get back up to speed. And some more active mods, too. A lot of the current mods are in college/university and can't be very active due to their class schedules but are more active on their breaks. I just need to add some more who can be active during the academic year to balance things out. And I'll roll out some more contests when I have the funds to do so, since contests seem to bring people out of the wood work. (I'm making a list of things I want to do for this guild.)

Caliber Mengsk has joined the discussion as well.

I don't draw too often anymore. Hard to find time since I got a full time job. I still check in here every week or two. My job is kind of boring, so I could check in more, but there only seems to be a post every week or two most of the time. If it get's more active here, then I would check more often.

I got into drawing because of.... pixel art XD. I want to get into game development, and when I first started, my favorite games were RPGs. So, I found a program called RPG toolkit to make things in. I had a game concept of traveling through the different graphic bits (black and white, grayscale, nes, snes, sega genesis) to be an interesting story ark. Well, I never got past black and white, but here's some pics of what I came up with for the very basic black and white:

http://calibermengsk.com/monomax/images/lyfin-1.png

I think doing the black and white with dithering is one reason why I'm so good at shading things. I was limited to only two colors. It's hard to show detail with shading at the same time, so I got good at it over time. After spending a while on that, I started drawing. After 3 months or so, I started coming up with things like this:
http://caliber-mengsk.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/&offset=24#/d93vep

After highschool, and a few semesters of college, I took a drawing class. In that class, my teacher was very surprised at my knowledge of the technical terms (dither, gradient, contour, etc.) and pushed the entire class to see what I could do. Well, the end half of the semester he had us doing charcoal. I'd never messed with charcoal, and this is my first drawing done with charcoal.

Needless to say, I'm still good at shading razz This is when I went into my very constant drawing phase. Drawing 4-5 images a week (which is a lot for me). Then, it just kind of died down.

Unlike most people, I retain things well, so even though I don't draw for months, I still actually tend to get better. For example, I went from drawing this http://caliber-mengsk.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/#/d39dl3b (feb) to this http://caliber-mengsk.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/#/d3hegkl (may) to this http://caliber-mengsk.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d46z212 (aug). The last one of which was the last time I drew anything.

O-o So... that's my life story XD (at least pertaining to drawing)

As far as getting the guild back up and running, sure, why not? I came in right as it was slowing, so I've never really seen it at full speed. I'd love to though. The issue is (in my opinion) that there isn't much interactivity. Since there isn't much talking, people assume that people don't visit the guild. Not to mention I'm sure it has something to do with ranking in the search results.

I'd love to see it running faster. It's kind of annoying to upload a picture and only get one comment/critique after 2-3 weeks. It's just be kind of nice to have replies to images.

Well, that's my massive ramble post. XD

My answer concerning drawing is similar to Kiln Aro Malac's response. I got into drawing because I'm a writer (hobby) and I wanted to draw my character out too. And like that response, I haven't drawn in a very long time. My spare time is wasted on games, outside life, other parts of Gaia, writing, and whatever else there is to do. Not that I was any good though... and I stopped since my drawing pad broke.

If this guild can be active again, I would very much like that. I was here back in... 2008 or 2007, when it was VERY active. I remember the first DTPAY thread, before the second one came along. I remember people posting their art for critique, I remember people giving away art, the tutes for certain things etc.

I would, honestly, like this guild to be active again. Simply because it was one of the first I joined, when I was still very new to Gaia. I've been going through my guild page, and many guilds I joined back in 2008... are no longer active. And the reasons are the same; people quit Gaia and/or moved on to better things. Thus, making the guilds suffer as well. Since those guilds were inactive, I quit them as they are just cluttering the page. This guild though, honestly, I CAN't quit, even if it does somehow become completely inactive. I couldn't do it simply for the reason I stated previously. I had too much history here (more so as a lurker though), and I still think it has the potential of being active again. It just needs to get the attention of people and bring in new members (as well as get the old to be active again).

How many of you still draw in your spare time?
Me, but sometimes I can't find a piece of paper to draw on...

What got you into drawing and what do you like drawing now?
Manga and mangas of course. I just like those characters. They're so cool~ I like black and white pic. I think color will ruin its own beauty.

Do you feel like we can get this guild active again?
Sorry for saying this but no, something you get is only once, you won't have it forever. This work on everything. No exception. You should just be grateful that this guild is once active.

I was never that active of a member in the first place. >o> Mostly I lurk.
But I've been drawing a lot lately, between classes and work. I'm not all that good, but I've improved a lot lately. So I think it'd be nice to see this guild active again. Once midterms are over and I get this darn research paper out of the way, I'd probably have time to post some things.

How many of you still draw in your spare time?
I don't think I will ever stop drawing in my spare time. I'm a third generation doodler, haha. And lately I've had a lot of inspiration. Just wish I had more time to dedicate to art. Now that my job (seasonal) is ending, I should have more time, thankfully.

What got you into drawing and what do you like drawing now?
Sailor Moon and Pokemon. Of course as a young girl in the mid-90s I LOVED Sailor Moon and that was what really got me into drawing. I remember getting some sort of newsprint pokemon pamphlet from somewhere advertising the first pokemon movie, and I traced and colored each pokemon featured, and from there I moved on to drawing all on my own.

I like drawing a lot of things now. Mostly I have a few characters I've drawn for years. The latest idea that's gotten into my head is that I want to restart a webcomic on Smackjeeves. I started one a few years back, but it was very experimental, inconsistent, and it never got very far. I want something more consistent this time around. Right now I'm in the thumbnailing stage, and also trying to figure out if I want to color or tone when it comes to actual pages and how I will go about doing it efficiently. I've got a lot of work ahead of me if I want to pull this off!

Do you feel like we can get this guild active again?
I think so! There's a ton of artists on this site. If just a few of us start posting regularly, we'd probably have no problem picking up new posters from there.
