Definitely take her to the shelter. Even if you don't find the right cat there, she'd probably enjoy just going, and if she's not ready to commit to ownership, -depending how far it is from her place/how hard it would be to get to 'on her own'- she could consider just volunteering there a few times a week; it would give her the joy of spending time with animals without the worry of taking care of them herself.

i dont think she would do well with volunteering, she gets sick easily and is blind in one eye. its not far from her apartment but i cant see her going there often.
