So, I work 40hrs a week, and, this is actually my "vacation" I got xmas and boxing day off and I have new years and jan 2nd off as well. So, it's been a little bit of a stressful vacation, the only time off has been spent well, preparing for xmas or driving to family etc. I'm sort of off today but I start work at 9pm tonight and I work till...well, the original time they gave me was about 3am, but apparently no one has any idea what time we will finish, since we're doing inventory. Normally I would have had the day off and work 12-9 tomorrow, I asked my boss if I could leave at 3am if we werent done so I could sleep a bit before my next shift. She laughed and said she didn't expect me to come in on Friday.
Well, I was a little surprised, it's not like I've never had just 6-7hrs between shifts before, but more so because I mostly agreed to this to get some extra cash to pay off my debt. I don't want to LOOSE hours. Why would I give up a noon to 9 shift to work all night. WTF have I gotten myself into?
So I need so advice. 1. How should I spend my day. I'm no good at sleeping during the day, I just lie in bed and toss and turn, so taking a nap before work might be a good idea but is highly unlikely going to work for me. If I lay in bed all day then I will just feel sleepy and groggy when I start tonight, so I should probably do something, I think I'll walk my dog, go for my workout at 5, try to get stuff done.
As for tonight, well, I was thinking, if I actually work 8hrs (till 5am) then I'll take Friday off, I won't lose or gain hours and I can spend Friday recouping before my saturday shift, which is not as long. If I work less than 8hrs, I might tell my boss that I'll come in at 4pm instead of noon, work a 5hr shift instead, that way I can try to get some sleep before I go back to work. If I work anything less than 5hrs then I should be able to get enough sleep to work my 12-9. That's my plan so far. The moral of the story is, don't agree to help people it always screws you over.

Either try to stay up the entire night, "it's ONLY until 3 am, I can totally handle that", or find something to take to help you sleep.. though I'm not sure of any short-term sleeping aids.

I must have been really tired, cause not only did I manage to nap. I napped with both blinds open and the sun in my eyes. I got close to 3hrs from 12-3 then I took my dog for a short walk, it was FREEZING, the gloves I took werent warm enough so we just went around the block, did my workout at 5, that gave me some energy and then I drank black tea all night and survived the shift, worked till 4am and since it was bordeline on my original plans I just took today off. I'm out 1hr from my regular shift but I woulda spent that money on lunch anyway. Now I can go do zumba, my monthly trial membership at the gym ends in 2 days and I'll still get to sleep earlyier than if I worked today.
