i think i might want an e-reader. ive been taking my grandmother to so many places recently and ill have to wait an hour or 2 until she is done and bringing an actual book can be tough because i dont always bring my giant purse with me and sometimes i lose my place.
im thinking of the nook glowlight. i know nook is more expensive than kindle but my birthday is this coming week and i think ill ask all my friends for a little bit of money for it and make up the difference myself.
also i know i want the e-ink and not the lcd screens and i have a droid, psp, and a ds so i dont really need another hand held thing to play games on
but what other differences are there between nook and kindle?

cєℓєsтιαℓ ғιʀєғℓιєs:
I didn't find the LCD appealing either-- the whole point of getting a kindle for me was the e-ink that made it feel more like reading a real book as opposed to reading a book on a mini-computer. Not to mention, I have a lot of difficulty reading off an LCD screen in the day, whereas my e-ink screen has very little glare.
I absolutely LOVE my kindle. I bring it everywhere. I read it everywhere. So an e-reader, in my opinion, is very worth it. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of experience with other e-readers, so I couldn't compare them for you. sad
From what I've seen, the nook is a little bit cleaner. Crisper. I've heard that there are less page refreshes on the nook (the page flashes to kind of reset things and reduce ghosting from previous text)-- but I don't ever notice it on my kindle anymore, so frequency doesn't bother me.
But then you've got things with the kindle, such as uploading txt files. I read that the nook doesn't support that. As someone who enjoys writing, I LOVE being able to plug my kindle into my computer and uploading a simple txt file with my writing-- gives me a completely different experience from the computer screen. And the kindle also has a web browser-- albeit a terrible one, but one nonetheless that's usable for quick searches.
Overall, it's not going to be a very different experience no matter which you go with. But I would *DEFINITELY* recommend getting one. 3nodding I've got books upon books on my e-reader now, and it is just so convenient to have access to all of these things wherever I go without having to lug around 50 lbs of books with me.

My brother, mother and father all love their Kindles...I am still reading archaic paper books! LOL. I believe basically the difference is w/ Kindle you buy books through Amazon & w/ Nook you buy through Barnes and Noble... My brother seems to feel that Amazon is less restrictive than B&N ... but I don't have personal experience w/it.... But this wiki page compares all kinds of e-books, the chart at the bottom looks especially helpful.

my dad and husband are starting to try to talk me into getting an ipad instead. dad showed me his and with the books you can change the settings to the background isnt bright white, its a pale tan color so its easier on the eyes in the long run. what i get now depends on how much money i get for my birthday
im so excited to have some sort of portable reading device soon lol
also another thing i read about the kindls is that they have alot of ads, is that true?
and i would love to have normal text files on the ereader since my friend writes alot and i would love to be able to read her stories. right now the best i can do on my phone is when she emails me something new or it i go to the website where she uploads some of her stuff
just wondering, can you upload text files to an ipad?

Ehh, it's only on the sleep screen and the menu. As 99% of my time on the kindle is spent reading (no ads there), it doesn't bother me whatsoever. Not to mention, if I shut off wifi (saves battery), the sleep screen reverts to a basic screen saver.
I don't have an ipad, but you can almost definitely upload text files onto it. You could probably download a kindle app for it and still buy books from Amazon. smile Sounds like a happy medium.

I LOVE my KindleFire. You can adjust the brightness for different light levels, the text font and size, change the background color. It's so nice. And since I read a ton of training and behavior books I can really see the pictures and make them bigger if I want more detail.
I haven't had any adds with my Kindle, but that may be because I'm a member of the Amazon Prime program sweatdrop The number of books that you can get for free sold it for me, plus I can watch movies and TV that Hubby doesn't like.

i ended up deciding on a nook, hubby now wants an ipad so i guess i will put the leftover birthday money towards that. i just love how tiny the nooks are so it will fit into most of my purses.
but oh my god no one has them in stock and ive been on the waiting list since i made this thread! the website says my local barnes and noble has them in stock but when i called they said they didnt. there are so many books i want to read right now but i dont want to buy another book until i have my nook.
if this takes much longer i think i may get a kindle instead and cancle my reservation for a nook.
i want to read so badly and i just finished my really crappy vampire romance book that had a really wreid and badly written ending

Shearaha Shanna66 i want to read so badly and i just finished my really crappy vampire romance book that had a really wreid and badly written ending May I ask the title of said crappy romance? I love a cheesy romance ninja the vampire shrink its starts out pretty well, i really enjoyed the first half of the book. i just wonder how on earth they let the second half get to the publishing stage. there will be a second one comming out sometime this year maybe and dear god i want to read it xd i need to see what happens next i would put this on a very very slightly higher level than twilight just because it seems to be written for adults instead of teenagers and the main charachter has some depth. but on the covor it looks like its 2 women kissing so it made me want to attept writing my own sappy crappy vapire romance but with some lady love instead. its made me remember why i usually dont even try to write lol
