OK, so I have been tossing a cosplay idea around in the back of my head that may only cost me under $200 to get together and done. The idea is an Electivire Gajinka, done up in a kind of industrial/rave style:

OK, first things first, the main outfit. It's a painters coverall that I plan to get from Dickies:

Painter's Coveralls - $50.00

Once received, I am going to dye the hell out of it in order to make it a nice bright yellow. Biggest reason I'm going with Dickies is also because I know how long they last under pressure, and despite losing weight, I'm still going to be a 2XL by next year. After the dying, I'm going to get dome black denim fabric for the trimmings. May need a little help on this one (Have no clue how to sew) but may have a friend or family get the trimming part done with a bit of pay to them ($50-$100)

The tail itself will be a challenge. I plan to get some black elastic tubing to run along the trimming int eh back and poke out at the shoulders. I doubt I will have the cash to light them up, but I will see about getting some red glass to glue them in (Got a family member who fiddles with that department XP)

The helmet I plan on pulling off will be a hardhat (Amazingly only $10). I will have to consult on how to do the antenna, but should be easy, and the black dot will be simple enough with some paint or a good sticker. Finally, some red Goggles (Around $30 for some good ones) with black holdings. Gloves and boot to complete and BAM! Gajinka Electivire.

Any thoughts? Comments? Ideas (Oo, I love ideas!)?

Look into dyes before buying the coveralls. The one you've got your eye on is poly/cotton, and I know a lot of dyes only work on cotton. Never used fabric dyes before (want to though, what with the FFX-2 cosplays on my to-do list), but that's some advice I've been given.

The only thing with denim is that it's an expensive fabric. You could always hunt down some black jeans from thrift stores and whatnot. If you were to let the edges of it get a little ragged/ripped, that would add a cool effect methinks.

As for the lights... LCDs, man. People use them all the time for cosplay, and they're surprisingly cost effective and easy to get.

Hmmm... if you really want to try and pull off the rave style, why not ask Moro for some style tips? I like the idea though, and as with anything people post related to cosplays, I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Sorry, meant to say LED lights. sweatdrop I think they're both fairly cheap though, but it's worth looking into. With cosplay, every penny counts.

Dyeing the utility cover is going to be very, very hard. It's not impossible, but it's going to take a lot of dye.

If you can't find anyone to sew for you, I can do a video of how to use a sewing machine if you would like or skype/msn you and talk you through it. =o

Honestly if you had the budget I'd suggest trying for a Electrive power rangers suit but you know that is just me. Honestly with how to make the costume I don't know but I would suggest colored contacts and mabye repurpose some exstension cords for the tail.

Yeah, but I cant find a coverall that is the right color yellow. Way I figure it, getting a white one, then giving it one hell of dye bath. As for the sewing part, It's either going to be a friend of mine or by hand by myself. I dont have a sewing machine crying

Sadly, budget is not in my power. Hell, rent and games keep killing my paycheck (Though I am so happy with my recently acquire DLP Widescreen. So worth it for $90.00). I did the math, this outfit should only cost me within $300 total, $400 going all out, meaning I can pull this off within 5 months of first week paychecks, which are usually my free checks.

As for the tail, I didnt want it to be loose, so the extension cord idea is totall out. I'm going to be raving in this outfit, i need something that wont tangle my feet. Also, I can't stand contacts. The goggles are meant to be the red eyes of the Electivire, and also so that I can see...owie....

I will not be there this go round because the options of driving and flying are beyond my budget.

I never looked into taking a train.
So I'm not even sure if Chicago has any trains to Dallas.
