Even though it deviates from the manga in the last few episodes, Princess Jellyfish is a really great shoujo with unconventional characters.
And of course, there's the anime I'm from, ribbit.

I personally really love Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Trigun. Though, a lot of Trigun's appeal is from the characters, and it really goes downhill in the second half of the series. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are awesome all the way through. 4laugh

yum_tea Most of the anime that I usually recommend have been listed (and I'd like to chime in to second the recommendation for Revolutionary Girl Utena, but the dub is terrible so you'd probably be better off just sticking to the subs). However, I'd like to add that if you're into ghost stories, Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is a wonderful anime to check out.
