So I'm considering making a public quest thread in the charity forum and I read the rules and guild lines and I am wondering, does the layout of the first page really matter that much? Is that why people add all that, what I call, unnecessary pictures and content?
Are people really more inclined to donate when they see a quest thread with a fancy looking layout? I must admit though I am super curious as to how people get those pictures with the text that says reserved and so and so quest thread and things like that. I don't know if I am allowed to link their quest thread to show you what I mean, but um..........well there is this certain one about wolves and like......oh heck! Just for the sake of it I'll link it those pictures are cool
How do people get pictures like that with the text that you know is actually about the thread. Please don't tell me it is photoshop, I don't want to get an account there. But I really want to get serious about questing and getting these items I'm deeming impossible to get.
So I'm just asking how to make a wow wow wow quest thread! And if it is really important to have some kind of a cool layout.

Well, most people in the general threads don't really know the person setting up the quest thread. Unlike in guilds (like here), we're pretty much confined amongst ourselves, so we know a little about the person who set up the thread. It's all right for us not to use fancy posting styles because we know that the person really is wanting something.
The fancy styles perform two roles. One, they attract people (particularly potential donators) into your thread. When people see attractive designs and stuff, they tend to stay around and read whatever you've written on your first page. And when people stay around, get to know you more, they might in the end, help you in your quest. And second, those things costs a lot of gold, particularly the uber good ones. It's a kind of sign that the questor's serious about his quest, that he's not going to abandon it after receiving your gold donation and not continue their quests anymore. It shows that you're going to keep that thread alive and that you yourself will be active in it and not just post once every blue moon.
As to how the styles are made... The styles are actually pictures edited in, yes, photoshop or some other picture editing program. But if you're not really into editing pictures, or you don't have the skills, there's actually a forum here in Gaia where people offer their editing skills in exchange for Gaia gold. I'm also not sure if I'm allowed to redirect but you can find that thread here. Mind you though, editing's not that easy, so some of them charge high prices for their works, particularly when their creations are really nice.

Oh s**t I can't afford to pay people to set up a quest thread when I'm trying to raise gold for a quest! emotion_facepalm
I'll just use glitter text and see what happens with that.

Haha, yeah, it's a bit ironic that you'd spend your money on graphics when you can use the gold to buy your items. But yeah, you can go for simple designs, no one will hate you for that. The important thing to keep in mind is to be personally active in your quest thread, even if you're the only one posting there, because it would give people the impression that you really are serious about your quest.

I had a text only quest thread, really simple, no fuss, and still got a few donations including one of 500k. So i really don't think it matters as long as you keep it updated and try to post a lot.
