Nozomi bit on her lower lip, she didn't know how to help them… if it's between them, there was no way for her to be able to take on their pain some how. Instead, the red haired Aburame had stayed quiet and let them grieve. Frustrated, she glanced around for a moment. It was still odd. Such beauty… and none of them was feeling it. What about Kirigakure? Were they safe? Was it light there or are they still in darkness? She wanted to ask it… but how? She did not wish to interfere with their feelings, especially the Mizukage… was it not enough that he was responsible for so many lives and bad things happen to him? Turned her head back, she noticed that Shadow's weight, he was fine and standing, but then suddenly, it seemed as his body gave out. Quickly, she was behind Shadow, her arms underneath Jack's arm to support them both as she pushed her right leg back and slightly tilt the ankle for better balance and weight. "Jack… I... I don't know what happened but I'm so sorry Jack... I'm so sorry..." Nozomi started, her eyes slightly pained. "I… I do not wish to… I … I want you to stay human... to use your emotions at healthy level... But Kirigakure… the people and it's shinobi… they need you... are they okay… Jack?" She questioned, as she help Jack gently lower Shadow to the soft meadow and she was also ready to bolt back to Kirigakure to help them, if she had to….somehow. Could she even find her way out?

Actions:.

Butterfly Kisses - Nozomi is able to cast her genjutsu, if they are touch based, through her insects. She makes the handsigns, but the jutsu is delivered by the insects. Example, if Nozomi have six insects on six people, all would be affected by her genjutsu. It would cost 2 ranks less per person to use. Such as if the technique is A-rank, it would cost C-rank chakra per person. While the cost of the technique drops two rank, so does the power.

Class Discipline/Personal Attribute:

Mother's Heart - Nozomi is able to communicate with anything living that is of the Arthropoda phylum order. She can gather Intel from the Arthropoda phylum creatures that is within 10 meters radius, usually used to track someone down.

          -----[ S ]hadow... was gone...
-----Weight settled into his arms as the young boy's will gave out at last. Instinctively, beneath his clothing one of Jack's tattoos glowed with a soft warmth, causing time to fall still. Time was but a figment of one's imagination, a human perception to judge the universe's march into oblivion's arms, and right now it would bend to his will. Everyone, and everything, stopped. Slowly, Jack's mind reacted to his technique, his chakra flowing slowly into Shadow's as their eyes met for the last time. In the fraction of moments before his eyes closed the Mizukage entered Shadow's mind, reaching outwards with all that he was, all that he ever had been or could be, desperately searching for the one thing he needed most: Shadow. Yet he found...nothing. No mindscape, no sky, no spirit. Instead, he found himself in an abyss without end, pockets of data floating in the darkness, splintered away and disconnected from the backbone that made up Shadow's mind. The backbone that that should have been there!.
-----Was he screaming within Shadow's mind, or was that aloud?
-----His mental roar of anguish and pain remained just so, scattering the fragments even further outwards. In terror the Mizukage reined in his pain, his horror, reaching out gently instead with his mind to take the bubbles in hand and sorrowfully bringing them closer together. Each bubble he touched he caressed with tear-dampened hands, for even within himself Jack could not keep the tears from flowing. Each one he looked into brought only more despair, for he realized at that moment just what the extent of the damage was: Shadow was no more. The memories that remained were only of his skills, his combat training, the survival skills he had learned since the day he was born. But the substance was missing, each bubble barely more than a pale imitation full of holes where personality, history, his spirit had once resided. Yet despite such a terrible revelation he could not surrender, could not give into the ache within his very soul, until the bubbles had been pulled together and stuck into a mass of quivering memories.
-----Stepping back from the monstrosity before him with tears still spilling from his eyes Jack took one last, forlorn look upon what remained of the only family he ever knew. It was so little, so fragile, and devoid of Shadow's self. A human being was more than just their experiences, more than just their skills and expertise. It was their soul, their self, their Truth. Without it, all that remained was...this, a conglomeration of hollowed memories shoddily sewn together with the bindings of Jack's own memories. It was...painful. Horrible. And this was all there was left. Raising his right hand to his lips, Jack kissed the tips, one for each fingertip, before collecting the tears from each eye and holding it up before him in one last, silent farewell.
-----Time returned with a sickening lurch as Shadow's weight fell upon him. While he knew that someone was helping, and somewhere in his mind the name of that individual floated, Jack couldn't process it completely. Emerald eyes widened to their limits were devoid of sentience as he stared at his friend's body, his brother's vessel, and allowed Nozomi to help him to the earth. No words were exchanged, and in fact he hardly seemed to realize that Nozomi was nearby. It was not personal, he wished he could tell her. This...how could one explain what this meant to Jack? Someone who fought every day, with every breath, to help others find their Truth only to cost the most important person in his life their own? For this was his fault, he knew without a doubt. And that fact hurt him only slightly less than the truth of Shadow's existence.
-----Without thinking, one of his tattoos began to glow at his heart. Behind the coat, it would appear only to be a strong, deep maroon colored light that burned in some strange, odd shape, but before Nozomi's eyes Jack's arms would thicken, his legs tightening into a muscular mass, his shoulders pushing back and his clothes filling out to near bursting. Muscular for the first time in his life, Jack had little opportunity to enjoy the change his body had taken as he rose to a standing position, Shadow carried effortlessly within his arms. Faint energy flickered along his body as his Stamina burned within him, forcing his limbs to change from their overexertion to become, temporarily, exactly what he needed from them. Eyes lost in Shadow's face one last time, Jack's lips finally parted.
          -----Shadow was gone.
          -----"They will be."
-----The words hardly left his mouth when the light of sentience returned to his gaze, and with it an crimson flame filled with all of the misery and pain bottled up within him. A dangerous gaze Nozomi had seen once before, right before the Mizukage transformed and devoured a monster whole. There came a crack in the air, a splitting sound like a tree splintering, and a doorway rotated into existence before them with some level of resistance and hesitation. His eyes changed, becoming a pair of rubies while the mercurial cloak of his wings formed upon his shoulders. Strange blue lines around his eyes burned into being as the door groaned open, the dark oak door seeming to simply turn in midair, revealing the office beyond and allowing the screams of fear and misery from beyond into this hallowed place.
-----Nozomi would have moments to warn anyone, if indeed she desired to, before Jack would march through with the bearing of one going to war.
-----Shadow was gone, and someone was going to suffer for it.

► Genni Genjutsu [ Strengthen Genjutsu ]
By having the Sakkakugan active during a genjutsu, the user powers up the technique to the point where it can no longer be discerned as real or fake by non-Sakkakugan doujutsu. In addition to this, if the afflicted manages to find out they are in a genjutsu, it will require an additional [15] chakra for them to activate Kai. It also takes as much to use this technique.
► Izumi no Seirei → Custom Belt Buckle
Triples the recovery of chakra/stamina, the amount of which depends upon the method used [Must use listed methods in guild rules for base recovery cost]

► Tattoos and Contingencies → Open Spoiler

||→|| [All Tattooed techniques are stored using the Time Sealing technique, and made permanent by Tattooing and set storage length to "9,000 Years". Activation requires chakra to be placed into it via Contingency or direct use, but fuinjutsu never fades due to it being tattooed] ||←||

► [Chain] Contingency || → A fourth dimensional object tattooed upon a two dimensional plane, it causes a slight headache when looked at for too long.
Has several triggers locked within it that can activate depending on actions taken. The triggers are listed below, as well as the effect that occurs. Unless triggered effect is awakened, fuinjutsu does not appear to be a technique in nature, though double sensors will see a faint trace of chakra within the formation of the technique. Read technique description for more information.
• When right pinky is curled into a ball, but the other fingers are not, activate False Place Technique fuinjutsu, placed left of the Contingency tattoo, as per direction. Unless otherwise specified by twitching the right big toe at time of casting, Genjutsu will draw from Tensa Fuin above heart for upkeep.
• When the middle right part of upper lip is nipped with teeth, activate Voice of Persuasion fuinjutsu, placed just above belly button. If left upper lip is nipped with teeth, activate Voice of Terror instead. Unless otherwise specified by the twitching of the right big toe at time of casting, Genjutsu will draw from Tensa Fuin on right wrist for upkeep.
• When left foot is angled at a nine o' clock orientation while the right is at a one o' clock orientation, activate Scattering Ashes fuinjutsu placed above the center Contingency tattoo after two second delay. If "stay" is spoken before time is up, this Chain is stopped. At time of casting, destination must be within Jack's mind, else the fuinjutsu is set to transport Jack and all in contact with him to his Island. If successive casting is required for destination to be reached, cost is paid automatically. Unless otherwise specified by the twitching of the right big toe at time of casting, jutsu will draw from Tensa Fuin to the above right of the Contingency.

Nozomi watched Jack as she helped Shadow down, a frown at her lips. He was still breathing and alive... but.. why was Jack in so much pain? As well Shadow? What happened? Before her, Jack started to change as she slid backwards slightly and stood up. He was starting to have more muscles as she was slightly confused. Jack had seemed to finally answered her question. Her eyes widen in horror as she remembered that look before. s**t. s**t. She traced his eyeline and saw the door as she immediately bolted and made a run for it to the office, to at least to warn everyone....

-----[ C ]old, damp earth, the dew freshly thawed from a cold Autumnal morning, soaking into his utterly unprepared backside was the first sensation the Mizukage received upon appearing upon the island. Of everywhere in the world was it really that strange to find himself here, of all places? 'No,' came the muted thought, a whisper of the passion he felt not but a few moments before. 'I suppose, in the end, it is only natural.' Without even opening his eyes Jack could feel where he was, hear the roaring of the ocean far below, feel the rough bark of the living oak at his back. A place that bore whispered words filled with hope and cheer from the dips and sways of the ocean beyond, their jubilance given life in the form of little wind sprites. They danced, swayed, and played with one another, and if he truly focused their laughter would be heard.
-----This was also the place where whispered of dark, otherworldly secrets could be heard, where the faces of ash and oak were twisted and bent with the nightmares of creation. Where every shadow, large or small, twitched and writhed with faces and shapes not meant for mortal minds. The dark, wicked forest stretched on for miles before rising, higher and higher, upon a mountaintop that stretched into the heavens to meet the white clouds that formed the other side of the great ring. A sphere world, where in the center three stars blazed with exuberance that Jack always envied, with life enough between them to carry wisdom of untold centuries. This place, where he sat, served as the only neutral territory of this strange, otherworldly place based somewhere beyond the little corner of creation that Shinobi used. A place where the positive, and the negative, came together in one.
-----Tranquility, he called it, and it was the very heart of the Lonely Island.
-----It had been many years since he had last tread this ancient place, a middle ground between a cosmos of evil and good. It was here that Jack, as a child, had wandered at a call from a voice that bore no name. The whispers, intoxicating, mysterious, had led his younger self on a merry chase, teasing him from side to side through the boundaries that divided the known world from innumerable others. Why, unfortunately, he had never learned, only that it had shaped him as nothing else in his life ever had before. During a time where darkness and light warred within him for purchase, it had been here, with its wordless intonations, the voice had taught him to still the turmoil of his mind and form the mindspace it had become. A place of neutrality, where balance, communication, and Truth could be torn from the sea of chaos. In all this time, years later, Jack had never learned just what that voice was. Sexless, neither masculine or feminine, it neither spoke with vehemence or calm, joy or sorrow, apathy or passion. 'I suppose,' the Mizukage thought weakly. 'That in the end that is what I wish to discover: the owner of that voice.'
-----The chill upon his bottom reminded the young Mizukage just where he currently sat, and with a sigh, he opened his eyes.
-----Only to find a pair of yellow ones staring back at him.
-----To his credit, Jack didn't react the way the yellow-eyes fiend would have liked, instead only blinking mildly before offering up a simple greeting. "Greetings, Doushi." Emerald eyes met those of the gold with a flicker of recognition, an acknowledgment of its existence and no more. "Last we talked, I accepted you into my inner self." Control: that was the key to speaking with his other half, the dark half of his mind and soul. The Sakkakugan he possessed supposedly caused this affliction in all who possessed it, a darkness that was the sum total of all his negative emotions, and supposedly, his powers. Yet in the time the young man had spent researching and investigating the doujutsu his blood possessed, not once had he found anything to describe the affliction he possessed. Unlike others, Jack had a light side as well, a Hanshi, though it rarely came out unless he was threatened. That it wasn't here not to warn him of his darker half softened his spine, for it meant there was no danger to himself.
          -----Nothing unavoidable, at least.
-----The creature snarled and stepped back, a sneer of perceived superiority plain upon his expression. Odd, this one, who forever held itself above all other life. "So you knew?"
-----This question gave Jack pause, but he didn't know why. Yes, back during his sage training, Jack had done all he could to fuse with the light and dark sides of his psyche in a permanent binding of his soul. For his Doushi to be here seemed natural, however, given the presence of the Nightmare Heart and Dream Heart, it made a sort of sense that they would both be here. And as a manifestation of his darkness, his fear, his hatred and rage, it would be natural that at a time where he sought internal peace it would show up. So with an expression of pleasant curiosity Jack asked the simplest of questions. "What do you mean?"
-----Rolling its eyes before a slow, dark smile spread across his face, the other Jack reached out and pressed a single finger to the Mizukage's face, his grin widening at the sudden pallor of Jack's skin. "I'm no illusion, Jack~. I'm back."
-----Instantly the world trembled around them, the dreamy whispers of the zephyrs changing, worsening, their whimsical laughter and comedy becoming malicious and cruel. The sunlight, once warm and gentle, relaxing upon his face, became twisted and vicious upon his flesh. Once sturdy oak fell away behind him as Jack scrabbled backwards, reaching for some safety, a place to hide, to fight, to just think, only to find nothing beneath his hands.
-----The Doushi gestured around him, at the shadows that writhed and the black that was spreading ever further towards Jack's feet. An expression of disdain and utter cruelty fell upon his face as he gazed upon his "better" half. "That's right, Jack. I'm back, I'm better, and I'm here to stay. And just think! None of this would have been possible without you!" A finger, nothing more, jabbed in his direction, and yet Jack whipped backwards as if shot by a bolt. It couldn't be true.
          -----It couldn't!
          -----Right?

-----[ T ]rees rustling from an errant zephyr deranged by the presence of Nightmare proved to be the only sound to break the stunned silence for several tense hours, or so it seemed. In truth only minutes had passed as the Doushi watched Jack's expression with a sordid and cruel expectancy. Would it be fear, pain, sorrow that won out as the worst emotion Jack could feel? Or would it remain at horror at the concept that once more the darkness within his heart was free?
-----It seemed the latter was the case.
-----Jack gazed with incredulity and horror at the monster before him, not entirely sure where to begin. Words. Words were necessary, lest the creature assume control. Hold him off, think, time to breathe, that was what Jack needed more than anything. Tongue swiping lips from a mouth drier than cotton, the young man pushed with the base of his palms to steady himself in the loose, dead soil that had spread from the Nightmare Heart. Strength, that was what he needed. Strength to face the darkest part of his soul in what he hoped would be the final stand off. Emerald eyes met gold in a fierce, unspoken battle of wills as Jack metaphorically stood his ground upon a danger that his shinobi could never truly understand. "H-how..." No, too weak. More strength, less quivering. How did one speak with such fear clawing at their heart? To someone who knew no understanding of human emotions, who felt them from afar, detached and apart from the situation, to finally be in the 'here' and 'now' was disorienting. "How did we become separated?"
-----The Doushi snorted derisively before stepping back, his lips turned down in disappointment. A near twin to Jack, with only a slightly darker skin and gold irises to differentiate the two physically, it was nothing short of disconcerting for the original. "Remember the so-called 'Sero Crisis', when the world twisted and rotted into something nearing the Heart's nature?" Seeing recognition flickering in Jack's eyes, he continued with a sneer. Turning and moving towards a stone that moments ago had not existing. Turning once more and plopping down in a huff, the dark Jack stared at his grayer twin across the way with an expression of annoyance. "Let's see if you can figure this out, hm? Can't give you all the answers, after all. That's how yo-we work, isn't it? A test, so others' might learn the Truth?" Derisive, clearly agitated by what he believed to be sheer stupidity, the monstrosity continued. "Shadow died, or so you thought. Don't you remember?"
-----Despite his best intentions Jack's gaze turned down in remembrance. That day...it flashed through his mind, white hot and burning with the sickly yellow light of the beast. The rage, the pain...Shadow disappearing, dead as far as anyone knew. The agony he had felt that day was the most intense he'd ever experience. Detached from emotions, it took far more than anyone could ever understand to finally effect him, and in that one instant Jack's greatest fear had come to pass. Family: that's what Shadow was to him, the only connection in a life filled with misunderstandings and misgivings. There were times Jack had been forced to leave, and those days he knew Shadow hated him, but nothing compared to that moment in time. Every absence, every decision, every harsh word or lesson, the silence, the lack of endearing comments. Worse, knowing that not once had Jack ever been able to express those feelings, those concepts, in a way that could be understood...To show Shadow just how much he meant to him...The knowledge that none of it would ever again happen...
-----Without meaning to a whisper came from Jack's lips as he thought aloud, bearing his heart in an uncharacteristic display of emotion. "There was nothing I could do," came the whisper, filled with regret at the memories. "He walked through, and was gone. I could see nothing, feel nothing from him any longer. I....It...It hurt..." Tears, unnoticed, stained his cheeks as he continued. The memories..."Cold, so cold..." Ice where once heat had burned, the hearth that was his spirit. A place where once peace and tranquility had been found. Somewhere a keening rose, ethereal as the zephyr who released it. "Hunger, a burning in my gut, I wanted-no, I needed to fill that hole where once he had been." Academically, Jack knew what he felt that day. The description matched the textbooks within his room describing the human emotion called "grief", something he'd never experienced before. Describing it, though, was nothing compared to living it; experiencing it.
          -----A crack followed...
-----The light of understanding burst into brilliance in Jack's eyes as he remembered, and the Doushi threw back his head and cackled with glee. "Ah, now you remember it!" came the gleeful cry as the creature pounded its thigh with a fist. Gasping for breath it continued, the mirth ever present in its tone. "Yes, Jack! When Shadow died your spirit cracked, split in twain by your need for revenge!" As Jack turned his head in a pathetic attempt at shaking it in refusal the Doushi raised his voice, a sing-song quality entering it as he spoke. "Oh, Jack, you can't lie to me! I am you, as you are me!" Further shaking, further denial, and the Doushi grew angry, the tone menacing. Rising from his tone he stormed over, feet crunching in the black sand that rose as ash from every step. Snatching at his throat the black beast raised him up, off of the ground, and snarled in his face. "Deny it all you like, Jack, but I am merely what you represss. The darkness within you is there, forever. Why is it the Hanshi never comes, hm? Do you wonder where your light is, where the good and beautiful goes to hide whenever I appear? Do you never wonder why I am all you ever see when you look in a mirror?!"
-----Choking, fighting to breath in the grasp of all that was unholy of him, tears gushed from his eyes as Jack felt a small part of him recognize this as a reality. How could he not? When he walked these shores as a child it was the Doushi that answered the call of the Voice. When It had taught him how to call forth his Truth, it was the Doushi that leached from the barren shores to stand by his side. When the first of many Tests were committed, it was the Doushi that whispered in his ears instructions dipped in honey, only to scar him forever when the child Tested broke, his mind shattered into dust, left to scream in the dark of a cell till he beat his skull against a padded wall hard enough to splinter it, too. Every waking second he heard those whispers for a seeming eternity. When his eyes closed even for a moment it was the Doushi's laughter that filled the confines of his mind.
-----Why, why was his Hanshi, his light and goodness, never there when he so desperately needed him?!
-----Each wracking sob brought laughter and glee to the Doushi as the sphere in which they stood changed. The black from the Heart of Nightmare spread outwards with the crashing of lightning, and the world dimmed as the trio of celestial bodies above blackened and died against the onslaught.
          -----And Jack screamed.
-----The creature roared, the golden irises burning with renewed fury as its power grew. Eyes shuffling back and forth as he scanned the sky and the world, he continued, roaring, pushing further and further for eternal victory. "You pretend to be good, yet everyone in your village looks at you with eyes filled with fear and apprehension! What do they see that you don't, Jack? Face it, Lord Mizukage," came the scream, victory just within his grasp. "I am the real you!"
-----And yet, somewhere in the blackness of his heart, amidst the maelstrom of dread and evil that infected his mind, Jack remembered the words of the Voice to which he owed everything. There, upon that moonlit shore, on the solstice shared across all realities the Being of lights and darks whispered to him the Truth upon which everything he had ever based every decision, every goal, every thrice damned decision of his life upon.
-----"Our natures are defined not by anyone but ourselves, for no two Truths are ever the same."
-----A riddle, spoken in a broken method of speaking he had emulated for over a decade. It had served him well, as it did now. No two Truths were ever the same.
          -----Not his.
          -----And not the Doushi's.
-----Defiance welled within him as his tears burned bitterly upon his face, searing him to his bones as he clawed desperately at the hand that held his throat. Emeralds blazed red as the inner fires of Jack's soul burst into renewed life with the word "No!" Spittle flew at the creature's face as Jack's jaw clenched, as the world around them trembled, as for one blessed moment the beast's expression became one of hesitation. "No!" Denial, white hot, scoured his fear from him as he shouted, as the world around them stilled and he bared his teeth at the darkness of his soul. The heavens themselves trembled as he roared his defiance in mind and body, united as one, that "You are not me!"
-----A force erupted from Jack's body, a claw of mental power and conviction that ripped open the earth, tore the foundations of creation at their heart and spread forward in a wave of devastation. In one voice he defied his so-called Truth, denied the claims that the Doushi had given, and obliterated all that ever was, all that had been, and all that ever would be...
-----...Only to find his back against a living oak, the jubilant cries of the zephyr spirits dancing with the roaring surf below. The whispers of horrors unimaginable on the edge of his mind and hearing, the wind caressed his chin and hair with the loving touch of a mother. The world, once more, as it had always been.
-----And yet that meant nothing to Jack, who fell to the side and brought his knees to his chest and sobbed with a heart as broken as his soul. The world, the universe, might have believe his final push for dominance but Jack knew better. Scream though me might, Jack knew the truth that so many others had already began to take guesses at.
          -----Jack was a man broken.

► Tensa Fuin || → Tesseract Tattooed to the Upper Right of the Contingency
Allows the storage, and retrieval, of Energy such as Chakra, Sage Chakra, and Stamina within it, without limit.
_____→ {2 5, 6 0 0cp} // {1 6, 6 6 2sp} // {1 4, 7 7 7sc}
► Tensa Fuin || → Tesseract Carved Into Cane Just Beneath Cap
Allows the storage, and retrieval, of Energy such as Chakra, Sage Chakra, and Stamina within it, without limit.
_____→ {2 5, 6 0 0cp} // {1 6, 6 6 2sp} // {1 4, 7 7 7sc}
► Scattering the Ashes || → Shape of small candle flame above Contingency
Acts as technique of the same name when Trigger is activated or chakra placed into it.
► Voice of Persuasion || → Violin shape three inches below heart Contingency tattoo.
Acts as jutsu of the same name
► Voice of Terror || → Mask of fear shape three inches below heart Contingency tattoo, just right of Voice of Persuasion
Acts as Jutsu of the same name
► False Place Technique || → Standing Mirror shape three inches below heart Contingency tattoo, just left of Voice of Persuasion
Acts as jutsu of the same name.

► Kokohi no Jutsu [ False Place Technique ] || → Anime C Rank [Set to Trigger]
Kokohi no Jutsu is a simple Genjutsu technique which changes the appearance of a nearby object. The object is no larger than a human, maximum, and can be interacted with as if it were the appearance given.

Sleep...Sleep is for the weak, as they say. When asleep one's mind travels, lost and alone, within the confines of one's subconscious. Without special initiative, sleeping affords little in the way of protection from the world around you, for when asleep your subconscious cannot protect one from the outside world.

So it might not be that large of a surprise, then, when Takeda, Shadow, and Kagerou awoke to a mist-filled forest creaking and chirping with wild, unseen things.

Oak trees, twisted and gnarled with centuries of life obscured the sunshine above, casting the world into a perpetual twilight the likes of which seemed rather...unnatural, given the way things moved just out of sight. Darkness hid things that creeped and crawled across the loamy earth, the scent of which brought the idea of recent rainfall to mind despite the lack of excessive moisture in the earth. The temperature was low, as was common in Kirigakure, but the mist? The mist clung to flesh and obscured vision, though it remained less than half as thick as it potentially could get, allowing vision only as far as ten feet before trailing off into nothingness.

The world was quiet, as if afraid of just what these newcomers would do.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Kagerou was in the middle of a nightmare, as she had expected, when something felt off. Now, nightmares were not pleasant, and Kagerou had been trying to escape from it from the get-go, but as it was with such things, the nightmare wasn't going to let her go so easily. It wasn't until Kagerou's body felt that something was wrong could she finally lose the demons and monsters that chased her, many with the broken and shattered visages of friends and family she cherished.

The air felt cold. Her skin did not recognize the cloth it touched, nor did her back feel right. Her toes clenched in the chill and her legs drew up, trying to escape into the warmth of a blanket that did not exist. Although, it did escape into the feebler warmth of whatever unknown clothes she now wore. Last she checked, she had on comfy pajama shorts, not something that draped over her legs like a dress. That was about when Kagerou's mind returned from its lonely and horrific journey, and when she realized immediately that she was no longer in her room. She was scared. She was surprised. However, she did not panic. Not being a skilled actor, those who knew what to look for would notice, but otherwise, the changes from sleep to waking were subtle. She was unnaturally still and, of course, her breath and heart rate changed now that she was awake. However, she did her best to feign sleep.

With her eyes closed, she tried to glean as much information as possible from her surroundings, as she had been trained to do from family and teachers. was all the information Kagerou could gather in her sightless state.

Ever so slowly, she opened her eyes to learn as cautiously as she could about where she lay. At first, her eyes were little more than slits. Then when Kagerou saw the mist and trees in front of her without any traces of suspicious persons, she opened her eyes fully. The new information placed her, nowhere she could recognize. Kagerou couldn't imagine having been knocked out so long that she had slept until twilight, but that was the time of day the light seemed to suggest. Then again, she also couldn't imagine being kidnapped in the first place.

There… didn't appear to be any sort of immediate danger. She wasn't bound, so whoever captured her clearly expected her to move. If they were this lax about security, then pretending to sleep for a surprise attack probably wouldn't give her much of an advantage. Carefully, testing her body for anything injured, Kagerou raised her upper body off the ground so that she sat with her legs folded to her side. No injuries and puzzling over the unanswerable question of, "Where?" would prove fruitless. Kagerou tried to convince herself to quell the mounting panic. It wasn't completely successful, but thinking about a particular mystery that, despite everything else she should be paying attention to, really had her attention helped her to distract herself.

See, when Kagerou opened her eyes, she hadn't seen just mist and trees. She had also seen Takeda. Now, that alone would have been worrying. Takeda should have been in the hospital, not out in the cold and besides someone who could possibly anger him to the point of reopening his wounds. However, Takeda wasn't just unconscious besides Kagerou. He was in a tuxedo. The image was just so… jarring in a way Kagerou found difficult to describe. In any other scenario, she may have found it funny. Here and now, she just found it incredibly puzzling.

Looking behind her, Kagerou found Shadow in a similar get-up. This was also jarring, but Kagerou could describe why this time. She still held to the notion of Shadow as a kid, and seeing a tired kid in such formal wear just kind of was naturally weird.

Kagerou wasn't spared either. From the moment she was awake, she knew someone had messed with her clothes. Since opening her eyes, she had seen the sleeve of a black and white kimono, the monochrome highlighted with vivid red. The outfit just reminded her of the sad news that she had cut her hair. Longer hair suited kimonos better.

In the end, the outfits weren't really important, though. Well, except that a kimono was not easy to move in, and it was little chilly with only this kimono on. Nothing could be done about the cold, but Kagerou fixed some of the mobility issue quickly. Taking a cord that decorated her obi, Kagerou untied it without consequence and used it to deftly tie up the long sleeves of her outfit. Tied tightly behind her back, the string bunched up her sleeves and tied them into her armpit. As for slashing the dress to free her legs, it was certainly an option, but Kagerou decided against acting so rashly. She was confident enough in her skill with basic ninja equipment to slit her dress on a moment's notice should it be needed.

Besides, she didn't yet know if maybe this was just some sort of convoluted way of getting a new mission where she would need the kimono. After all, on top of not being bound, Kagerou could now confirm she had on her person everything she had intended to bring with her on a mission. If this was a kidnapping, then it was certainly a strange one. Of course, the chance that this was all benign didn't offer much comfort. After all, it was also a possibility that this was just some sick, twisted game she had been tossed into, and there was nothing to support either chance over the other.

With a deep breath to continue belaying her fears, Kagerou stood. Not a single question she had asked herself had been answered, and there was a chill unrelated to the cold that continued to run down her spine. logic told her, but intuition told her that there was something about this place that brought forth an familiar, unpleasant feeling. Surprise and fear intermingled within the uncertain Kagerou as she stared warily through the clinging mist.

Kagerou had been quiet, as if afraid of what the world would do. However, she couldn't simply stagnate in silence. Right now, she wasn't sure she could trust her smile, much less her words, so rather than from her mouth, Kagerou made her first sounds when she retrieved her bells from her supplies. They rang with clear, intentional tones as Kagerou slipped them onto her wrist. Once the bells were on, she flicked her wrist outwards once and then smoothly arced her hand back down, tracing a circle that curved inwards. The resulting ringing would no doubt alert Takeda and Shadow if they weren't already awake.

• Specialist -The user chooses to specializing in healing medical techniques and gains a great boost to their chakra control in that area. At Chunnin, they gain a -5 chakra reduction to perform techniques in their specialty. at Jounin, -10, at Konin -15 at Sannin -20. To clarify, they they gain a -5 chakra reduction every rank, to a maximum of -20 at sannin. All medical jutsu are still learnable by both sides, but the chakra control only applies to the chosen side.

• Grand Performance - The user can perform both types of arts (ninjutsu and genjutsu) through their performance or instrument, often casting them at the same time (must pay for both techniques). Can perform D rank techniques through instrument at gennin, C at Chunnin, B at jounin, A at Konin, and S at Sannin.

• Learn Medical techniques one (1) post faster.

• Learn ninjutsu (1) post faster.

• Learn genjutsu one (1) post faster.

• D"eye"versity - Through the use of custom techs, Kagerou can swap between the normally limited abilities and techniques for her sharingan, potentially giving her access to all eye abilities and mangekyou techs. She can never have more than the written limits at any one time (e.g. access to all eye abilities but cannot use more than two at a time). In addition to learning the required custom and whatever additional requirements that custom might have, Kagerou needs to fulfill certain conditions for a safe swap. Each Sharingan ability or technique swapped must be retrained and adjusted to, a process that takes twenty [20] posts at first for each Sharingan ability/technique, is reduced by two [2] posts every time the Sharingan ability/technique is safely retrained, and can take a minimum of six [6] posts per Sharingan ability/technique. If necessary, Kagerou can perform a riskier, instant swap on the fly without the readjustment period, but these swaps can only last for up to five [5] posts and disables the Sharingan, which needs to recover from the strain, for twice [x2] the number of posts that the swap lasted for. Techniques learned with the 'To Copy' Sharingan ability, which can be swapped out, are not forgotten but must be retrained every time Kagerou safely swaps to the 'To Copy' ability. Instant swaps to the 'To Copy' ability give Kagerou all of her copied techniques without needing to retrain them. For every time Kagerou safely swaps to her 'To Copy' ability, her copied techniques take two [2] less posts to retrain, going down to a minimum of one [1] post to retrain each copied technique.

• Miracle Performance - Kagerou can perform healing eiseijutsu through her performance/instrument as if it was ninjutsu of the same rank. When performing healing medical techniques, she can target anyone who can hear her music with the jutsu. I.e. she no longer has to be within touch range of the target to use healing hands.

The Good Host - 1/2 off all implant chakra requirements.

Mind and Body - A sound soul resides in a sound mind and a sound body. To ensure the health of all three, Kagerou must master every aspect of medicine. Kagerou gains an additional medical field type. The additional type needs to be trained separately from the first.

Evergreen Growth - Life always finds a way, especially when it's helped by someone who truly cherishes it. Plants cultivated by Kagerou grow as if the soil they are nourished by is +1 grade higher than it actually is. Unfertilized soil yields crops in 2 rl weeks. Low-grade fertilizer yields crops in 1 week. High-grade fertilizer reaches a new level of fast and yields crops in 4 days. (Post-acceptance note: I just realized that there is an Evergreen religion in this guild. I did not mean for this to be a religious PA in any way. It's just botany. I hope that's not a problem.)

Good luck when you wake up and realize all that you've lost. xxxxxxxxxx Shining lies are what you're made of. I hope it's worth the price that it costs.

[x] I must have eventually fallen asleep. I'd heard Kagerou's entrance to the apartment, and a knock on a door that was too far away to be mine...I think. Either way, I didn't investigate, and the place fell silent again after. My sleep was dreamless, but I was aware of the passing of time, which made me wonder if I actually slept at all. I must have, though, otherwise I would have noticed I had moved.

It was the bone-deep wet cold that woke me up. Were it just that, I might have thought I'd left a window open...if I'd opened one in the first place. And then I was met with the muffled sounds of birdsong and a variety of insects chirping. There was a sharp jingle of bells that sounded vaguely familiar. The ground beneath me was just as chilled as the air, and the hardness of it was what jolted me fully into consciousness. I sat up too fast, and leaned onto my right hand to get my bearings. I was outside--We were outside. Kagerou stood not too far off, just as confused as I was, albeit in her generally calm way. She wore, strangely enough, a kimono, and a fairly formal one at that. Although she fussed over it, she, uh... looked good in it as far as I was concerned. The dark-haired boy who'd stolen her away briefly after our introduction in the hospital looked to still be asleep nearby as well. He, on the other hand, wore a suit of some sort. No, more formal than that. A tuxedo?

That forced my gaze downward as I caught my lack of bare legs out of the corner of my eye. My outfit was similar to the other boy's, and I was none-too-pleased about it. While I appreciated that it helped stave off the chilly mist that surrounded us, I didn't like that not only was I somewhere I didn't know but someone had managed to dress me in my sleep. That was not okay. It was unfamiliar, and given the events of the past day, I'd had more than my fair share of that.

Thankfully, familiarity lay to the other side of me in the form of my bag and the bow Jack had given me. Although I questioned what they were doing there, I wasn't going to complain. I rolled onto my knees and retrieved my belongings, holstering the bow in a quiver that had added itself to my supplies, and slinging both the bag and quiver over one shoulder. The bag settled at my side, and the heavy bow pretended to be inconspicuous on my back. Standing up, I dusted of the back off my pants and took a few steps toward Kagerou.

My disorientation settled, I took the chance to take a good look around. The fog and foliage definitely still matched the village's ecosystem, so maybe we were somewhere nearby. That still didn't answer how we got there or why. I'd already learned not to underestimate the abilities of shinobi. It didn't seem impossible that one could put us into a deep slumber and move us. A kidnapping? But then why leave us in the middle of nowhere? Without restraints, I felt that it wouldn't be too difficult to find our way back, assuming the mist cleared soon. And why give us all of our supplies?

Part of me wanted to just head off into the forest, but the other half told me to stick close to the other two.

        [An old home.]

Why do you have to be so cryptic?

My mind's eye felt the rolling of eyes. [The island. You've been here many times before. You were here yesterday.]

I was? That must have been before... before I lost my memory. My grip tightened on the strap of my bag. It still didn't answer why. I thought we were meant to come in the morning, and find our way there. Unless Jack got tired of waiting. Which was odd because he didn't seem the impatient type. I pursed my lips in thought, and then finally turned back to Kagerou. "We're on the island. The...one Jack mentioned." I clamped my mouth shut. She was probably going to question how I knew, and I had nothing to tell her other than 'the voice in my head told me so'.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Contrary to what Shadow thought, Kagerou accepted his knowledge without question. She'd assumed that maybe it was a fragment of his memory that resurfaced after exposure to a familiar location. In that case, it was a good thing. As for being on Jack's island? That was a not so good thing. Maybe, the reason why she accepted it so easily was because she was too preoccupied with accepting this new information?

A visible shiver ran up Kagerou's spine as a stutter in her speech, "I-is that so?" betrayed her fear and nerves. She had thought she would be mentally prepared to step on the nightmare island, the island she had pretty much grown up hearing horror stories about. However, the reality was that she was not fully prepared. Whereas some people may have grown confident in their ability to survive monsters and frights after living through a waking nightmare, for Kagerou, the waking nightmare gave substance to the tales she had heard.

However, even in the face of uncertainty and conditioned fear, Kagerou did not lose her head. She took a calming breath, knowing from experience how to steady her mind and decisions. It was a good thing they were on Jack's island, actually. That meant they were probably brought here by the Mizukage. Kagerou assumed that it was because Jack had grown impatient, This wasn't an enemy attack, and while the island was known to be dangerous, they at least knew where they were. They even had a map.

Wait.

Kagerou gave herself a quick pat-over, searching her various storage units until she looked into the small bag slung over her shoulder. Her face lit up with relief as she pulled out a roll of paper. Shadow would recognize the scroll. If Takeda was awake, he would also recognize it.

Feeling a little embarrassed, Kagerou gave Shadow a sheepish smile and explained, "I… uh… Forgot to pack the map so I'm glad it's here." In truth, she had meant to pack it in the morning, but forgetting to pack it was still forgetting to pack it. She had made a mistake. At the same time, though, Kagerou was glad for the opportunity to return a smile to her face. She felt a lot better now that she was smiling, and for that reason, the smile remained.

With a small, calm smile, Kagerou double checked her surroundings for any danger. Then she turned her head to Shadow again. She had wanted to thank him when he revealed that this island was Jack's but had been too busy being worried. Now that she had calmed down, though, she spoke her thoughts, "Well, I'm glad you remembered a bit about the island. I'm a lot less lost and confused now that I know where we are, so thank you for that. Hopefully, returning home might trigger some more memories." The smile that had yet to leave Kagerou's face momentarily grew bigger as a sign of encouragement. Then it shrunk again as Kagerou turned away from Shadow.

"Anyways," the trio still had a task to complete. Above Kagerou's smile, her eyes narrowed in concentration. Jack had not yet made an appearance. Kagerou assumed this to mean that he wanted them to figure out the rest themselves. Takeda had not yet stirred, either. She felt bad, but they were going to have to wake him up soon. She only hoped that it didn't stress him too much to be around her. If the way he had reacted to Nozomi when he was uninhibited was anything to go by, then Kagerou could only assume that Takeda preferred to not have to see people he was angry with. She wished she could give him that option, but the current circumstances made it a luxury she could not afford.

After organizing her thoughts into some rough order of tasks, Kagerou's eyes softened, relaxing from their serious posture. Carefully unrolling the scroll, she asked Shadow, "Shadow, can you gently wake Takeda please? He's still recovering from massive damage to his tendrils, I think. I'm going to take a look to see if there's anything that can help us on this scroll Jack-sensei gave us." Kagerou, meanwhile, did just as she said she would. She skimmed through the scroll until she reached either new directions or the end of the writing.

Good luck when you wake up and realize all that you've lost. xxxxxxxxxx Shining lies are what you're made of. I hope it's worth the price that it costs.

[x] I let out a small breath I hadn't realized I was holding when Kagerou gave no indication of catching my mistake. In fact, she hadn't seemed to be paying attention to physical signals, distracted instead with the concept of where we were. From what little I knew of the island, Jack and I apparently were the only ones who lived there, and it seemed to be a disconcerting place. But Kagerou showed actual fear, and that put me on edge as well. What did she know about the island? And what was terrible enough to put such an expression on her face, something I'd seen more of than I liked in the past twenty-four hours of my memory.

I took a second look around. What little I could see through the mist revealed twisted trees, the branches of which formed a thick canopy over us, blocking out the light from the sky. My eyes adjusted to the low light that filtered through the boughs, but it was still very much dark where we were. From the small amount of light and the chill in the air, I guessed it to be early morning. I tucked my hands into my armpits to warm the one that was made of flesh. Kagerou, behind me now, mentioned something about a map--the scroll she showed me last night maybe?--but I was only half paying attention. She continued, saying she was glad I remembered something, and that being there might trigger more memories. I highly doubted that, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt since I could hear the smile beaming in her voice. If anything that smile of hers was always uplifting, good for staving away worries that crawled in the darkness surrounding us. A beacon of light, as it were.

Heat rushed into my face, and I was glad I wasn't facing her, although she probably wouldn't have been able to see the blush anyway. It was dark enough that details were hidden from the human eye. I clearly didn't have human eyes, and could see perfectly fine, albeit in diluted colors. Where had that thought even come from? Although she had been the most comforting presence I'd met since waking, I hardly knew her and had no business delving into emotions like that until I was mentally stable. I could... just attribute it to my age and that she was the only thing I really had to cling to in this village.

She asked me to wake Takeda, the boy who was with us. It was good to finally have a name to a face. I hesitantly looked at him, not particularly fond of the idea of being the one to disturb a stranger, but it was neither the time nor place for my social awkwardness to get in the way. Frowning slightly, I approached the slumbering boy and knelt next to him, shaking a shoulder gently before retreating in case he was startled--I wondered for a moment if others slept as lightly as I did thanks to their training, which caused my caution. Sitting back on my haunches, I waited for a moment to see if I would have to try again.

In the meanwhile, my mind wandered inward, in search of the source of the sporadic voice that advised me. Is there anything else you can tell me about this place?

Silence, briefly, and I thought there would be no response, proving yet again that I was crazy. But then the voice came, just as I had hoped, bold but high for a male. [We are near your home. The house where you and the Mizukage resided.]

I glanced up in hopes that something I saw might trigger memories, as Kagerou had mentioned. But it was to no avail. Sighing in frustration, I tried again. Okay, well how do I get there?

[Think of home, and you should find it fairly easily. Some friends might even help you find it.]

Friends? Was he referring to the other two with me? No, that didn't seem likely. They'd never been to the island before. Or at least Kagerou hadn't. I couldn't speak for Takeda. And what did he mean by 'think of home'? I had no memory, no connection to this place, so how could I think of 'home', outside of the apartment I'd been in not a few hours before? Unfortunately, it was all I had to go off of. I scowled and pushed myself back to my feet, giving Takeda another minute to stir. "I, um...think I recognize where we are," I lied. Somewhat terribly, but there was no real reason for anyone to doubt it given everyone was convinced my memory would return. Not that it wouldn't; I was still hopeful too. Finally turning back to Kagerou, I glanced curiously at the scroll in her hands. "Did you find anything useful there?"

-----[ D ]ark as the location may be, with twilight seeming to be the permanent forecast, there seemed to be a strange, ethereal light that permeated the entire clearing. Sourceless, colorless, but ever present, the light brought with it a strange relaxing presence, as if someone, somewhere, were watching and protecting. Whether this attempt at relaxation worked depended on the person that was targeted, but the feeling continued no matter the case as some of the trees rustled as something large moved out of sight. With it came a small cough from behind them, the tapping of something solid on damp earth, and a small chuckle.

The others would see him sitting upon a black tree that had grown up and around him, forming a sort of natural stool for his backside to rest in. One leg crossed over another, the cap of his cane between his clasped hands, Jack stared out under his signature black hat as the trio with that small, secret smile, waiting for their reactions, and their words.

► Tensa Fuin || → Tesseract Tattooed to the Upper Right of the Contingency
Allows the storage, and retrieval, of Energy such as Chakra, Sage Chakra, and Stamina within it, without limit.
_____→ {2 5, 6 0 0cp} // {1 6, 6 6 2sp} // {1 4, 7 7 7sc}
► Tensa Fuin || → Tesseract Carved Into Cane Just Beneath Cap
Allows the storage, and retrieval, of Energy such as Chakra, Sage Chakra, and Stamina within it, without limit.
_____→ {2 5, 6 0 0cp} // {1 6, 6 6 2sp} // {1 4, 7 7 7sc}

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. All Shadow had to do was ask and Kagerou angled the scroll towards him without missing a beat so that the two of them could look at it together. For Kagerou, she had just enough time to see something written about a house when the unnaturally relaxing sensation set in. If it was the beginning an attack, then it was a strange one, and rightly caused a rather puzzled expression to frown its way over her smile. She found it very easy to deny the mental manipulation from causing her to lower her guard. Immediately, three possibilities presented themselves in Kagerou's mind: 1) a very crafty enemy was using reverse psychology, 2) the trickster was very terrible at genjutsu, or 3) an ally had cast a genjutsu to herald and prepare for his reveal. Kagerou chose to tentatively believe in option 3, and cautiously accepted the soothing comfort so that she would not be scared by her own ally's appearance. In a setting like this, pretty much any sort of entrance was going to cause some degree of suspense. Only after finding that the aura did not impede her ability to make decisions did Kagerou fully relax, something that was made much easier by the impression of being protected that had been spread by the aura. The relief was a welcome reprieve. She wasn't even close to losing her calm, but she had been on edge just by being on the island.

Because Kagerou had allowed herself to relax, she did not jump in fright when she heard the voice, a likely outcome for someone who was raised on boogie man stories about the island's mysteries. As far as Kagerou knew, there was only one man who would spread this sort of aura in this sort of place, so she was not all too surprised either when she turned and saw Jack sitting in a tree she was certain had not existed just a moment ago. The sudden appearance of both man and tree was slightly unsettling, but Kagerou still gave a welcome smile. She might not have known how either got there, but as neither seemed like a dangerous threat, she just let the mystery go and moved on with a smile.

A greeting to Jack was in order. However, Kagerou had yet to answer Shadow's question, so she looked back at him first. Over his shoulder, he could she that Takeda's body was still on the ground, but that didn't need to be addressed right now. Maybe a little belatedly now that the island's non-amnesiac resident had arrived, Kagerou answered Shadow's question with a smile, "Hmmm. Well, I did read something about a house, but I guess you could say that information is going to help us Jack squat now." Her playful smile combined with the ups and downs in her voice made it pretty clear that she was cracking a small joke. However, immediately after finishing, Kagerou's smile froze for a split second as she realized, It wasn't like it was the end of the world, so she recovered quickly but even still. All she had wanted to do was ease the unease she had thought she heard in Shadow's voice. She didn't mean for that embarrassing habit she had gotten from her dad to seep into it.

Internally groaning but not dwelling on such a small mistake, Kagerou turned the rest of her body to face Jack while her hands rolled up the scroll of directions. Even ignoring whatever technique Jack had cast to calm the nerves of the group, just seeing proof that this was indeed Jack's doings (instead of, say, an enemy's) made Kagerou feel a lot better. Greeting him with a short bow, Kagerou's voice and smile retained their warmth but traded in most of its playfulness with respect, "Um… Excuse the intrusion, Jack-sensei, and… the lack of a visiting gift?". Some hesitation mixed in with her smile, present from beginning, when it was obvious that Kagerou wasn’t sure what to say, to end, when Kagerou wasn't sure herself if she had made a joke or not. The confusion stemmed from being unable to think of a way to ask about being suddenly teleported to a strange and foreboding island without sounding accusatory. At the same time, the normal greetings for visiting someone's home didn't quite fit with the present situation, but in the end, she went with the normal greeting.

For how relaxed Kagerou was, it didn't seem likely that she suspected anything at all. That would be correct. She didn't suspect anything, believing the Jack in front of her was no trap set by the enemy. However, that did not mean she did not acknowledge that possibility. It could be the case, and if it was, then she was ready to adapt accordingly.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Poor girl, she had been waiting for a response she would never get. From the woods, deep and dark, came a bone-chilling laugh that pierced through the illusion of security that Jack had spread to calm his guests. Dread filled Kagerou's mind and panic crossed the Mizukage's usually enigmatic face. Kagerou caught a glimpse of the jarring expression and a stray thought decided that it did not suit him, but then again, what did she, who knew the Mizukage mostly through rumors and tall tales she tried to give the benefit of the doubt to, know about what really went through the questionable sanity of his mind?

Whatever the answer was, there was no time to think on it. With each passing moment, the woods grew darker and the shadows gained sinister smiles. In the blink of an eye, Jack was inches away from Kagerou, shoving a tome into her hands, folding the edges of the scroll she still held open beneath and around the intrusion of the heavy weight.

"Give this to Inka. Tell him he is from this day Mizukage of Kirigakure. Tell him that something is coming, and the book will explain. Tell him....tell him he is better than he thinks he is."

This close to him, Kagerou could not mistake the fear that clouded Jack's eyes, nor could she miss the movement of something else lurking within those eyes. Maybe it was beneath? Kagerou reminded herself that time was wasting. She could feel the grass beneath her feet growing, tickling her ankles as they twined themselves around her feet like weak shackles.

"What are you-" Kagerou asked, but there was no confusion in her voice. She understood the message and its implications loud and clear. There was dissent in her tone and the clenched teeth that could be seen through her open frown made it clear that she wasn't going to consciously agree to this decision. Although, her terribly shaking body betrayed that she would have fled already if she wasn't able to remain as calm as she was. There was also something else wrong with the message that Kagerou couldn't agree with. Something about Shadow that she couldn't place her finger on, but a glance in his direction would betray that she was thinking, . He was the jounin. Well, former jounin, but even then, a message from his lips rather than Kagerou's would hold more weight, come out as more believable. Of course, she didn't exactly have the time to flesh out those reasons in the apparent emergency of the moment, but it was that underlying thought that gave Kagerou the feeling that something more than the Mizukage suddenly sacrificing his life was wrong.

She didn't get to finish either her questions or thoughts, though, much less receive an answer. Somewhere in the distance behind Jack's back, the shadows began to bubble and roll like a witch's brew. Kagerou only saw it in the corner of her vision, and she thought that it was only a vision to instill fear and insecurity in her, like during the nightmarish events yesterday or when Jack's temper had exploded at Kirama. She couldn't imagine it was what it was, so she thought there was still some time. Time to demand answers and get everyone out. The man making it sound like he was going to die here was the Mizukage and this was his home. It would be rare place where he would have more advantages than here and now, so there had to be a way to get everyone out safely.

Indeed, this was Jack's home, and he knew it better. He knew the army of monsters that were emerging from the boiling shadows behind him would soon be ready, even if he did not see them. He knew what had to be done, even if he had so much more filling his mind than the silly genin who could not see that now was not the time to question what he could and couldn't do exactly because he was the Mizukage in his home.

Before Kagerou could finish her question, Jack pushed her away, shoving the tome into her chest with such sudden force that she was winded for just a moment. Of course he wasn't trying to hurt her, Kagerou knew that even as she coughed to try and get her breath back. In the precious second she took to recover, pulled her back, lifted her off the ground, and flung her across the clearing. Apparently, this was all with one arm--or Jack had the ability to spawn extra appendages--as Kagerou saw Takeda flying away besides her to… where? the realization dawned upon Kagerou. Normally, at first, and then in horror as she saw Shadow standing beside Jack… on the island… with a legion of shadows charging en masse at them. "N-" Kagerou protested. Her mind knew that it had to stop the momentum of this throw, to find solid ground or something and rush back to protect the two out of duty to her family who had served the village for generations and duty to her dream of helping as many as she can. Her heart, however. Her heart… could not. It was not ready for the wave of fear that washed through it. It paralyzed her body with fear, using the all too convenient excuses of laden arms and the Mizukage's unmatched strength to rationalize why it was impossible that she could be of any help in facing the terrifying creatures of the night.

Just like that, Kagerou saw the scenery shift without doing anything. She could only guess that some sort of transportation technique had been placed one her because when she landed on her rump, it was no longer in the clearing but on the cliff facing the Lonely Island. This was the place where they were supposed to start from before the Mizukage worked his magic to simply teleport them onto the island. the grim possibility wormed into Kagerou's mind, Uselessly, Kagerou looked around to see if either Shadow or Jack had come with them. No. They hadn't. At least Takeda was safe, and Kagerou couldn't complain that the other two were left to their fates on the island. She hadn't done anything to stop it.

Clutching the tome and Jack's final order tightly to her chest, Kagerou numbly picked herself up off the ground. As if it could somehow make up for her inaction, she stared blankly at the island. It looked unnatural, but it always did. Then without warning a scream screeched its way through the village in a violent storm of sound and the island…. Kagerou didn't know what happened, but implosion was the best way to describe it. Without even a ripple in the waves, the island burst in seizure inducing flashes of whatever color Lanfaer finally decides to make the explosion. Through eyes squinted against the violent shine, it looked like the island had not blown up but had sucked in on itself just as fast as it would have gone if it had exploded. It was unbelievable spectacle fitting for an unbelievable island, and once it was all over, there was no Jack or Shadow.

What was shouting going to do? What was panicking going to do? Absolutely nothing, so even though Kagerou felt like doing both, neither broke through her calm disposition. She just swept the cliff top with a sweeping gaze, finding no one but Takeda. She tried to do something that would matter, the dying shriek still ringing in her ears.

She'd seen people die. Everyone who had survived the Sero incident had at least watched helplessly as fellow villagers were swept away by the powerful flood while they stood safe but powerless on high ground. Visions of terror were not new. There were the wood monstrosities that screamed with the voices of humans and were powered by the movements of corpses and the myriad of night horrors that roamed the silent village not even a day ago.

Then, in that case, why was she fumbling with the scroll now, trying to extricate the length of paper from the jumbled mess that was Jack's tome and her stiff arms, frozen and not moving the way she wanted them to? What did she think she was going to accomplish by pressing the seal on the scroll to the ground like the instructions said? Who did she think she was going to try and save when she prayed, and waited for the ground to form a tunnel like the instructions on Jack's scroll said it would, the instructions that were now fully revealed because the man who had cast the genjutsu to hide them was now gone?

The earth did not rise and neither did the dead. At least, at this point Kagerou had to accept that Jack and Shadow needed to be considered as dead, until conflicting evidence presented itself. Kagerou tried to organize her thoughts in the wake of this sudden danger and then tragedy, Death and disappearance among shinobi was frequent, and it wasn't like this was the first or even second change of village leadership she had been around for. However, it still hurt, and she accepted that hurt, a familiar pain after the loss of the Sero. It just felt like a little, no, a lot worse than before.

The trickle of doubts turned into a stream in no time, and Kagerou had to stand. She had to stand against the tide of thoughts that threatened to engulf. Breathe in the clean air, the confidence, as well as the fears that worried. Breathe out carbon dioxide, acceptance, and the lessons she learned from her mistakes. If only it was that easy. For now, she settled with simply gaining a clear mind from controlled breathing. She regretted, painfully so, that she hadn't tried anything, but moving nowhere was going to get her exactly nowhere.

Kagerou clenched Jack's tome tightly to her chest, and she took a moment to remember. There weren't a lot of memories of Jack, but she valued how he had seemed so gentle despite everything that was said about him. It was a something she looked up to. She only had a few more memories of Shadow than Jack, and most of them were tinged with rose-colored glasses forced onto her. Still, he was like Jack in that he was nothing like what people said he was, but that made him feel more relatable, as opposed to the respect that Jack garnered. Maybe it was because Kagerou saw him as just any other kid at first, and she never bothered to correct her misconception. He was cute--she was kind of sure that her fit of mad love for him totally had no effect on this opinion--and she never did get to pet his ears. Regrettably, he didn't get the chance to recover his memories, but that was death. Death had no regard for how ready its victim was.

Actually, pretty much nothing in the world waited for anyone. She needed to start moving. The consul… No, the Mizukage was going to need whatever this book was. Kagerou, despite having just stood up, crouched back down. She picked up the scroll and rolled it up neatly before putting it away. The tome remained in her hands. Then she looked over to check on Takeda again. He was awake by now. Of course he was. Mustering a weak, obviously fake, smile, Kagerou tried to give a normal greeting, "… Good morning." Her throat felt dry. She wasn't sure yet if she wanted to cry or not. Not that it mattered. The tears were dripping out anyways, but not so strongly that her whole face crumpled. Her voice held steady as she stood up and promised, "If you want to know what just happened, I'll tell you as best as I can while walking. We need to report to the… the new Mizukage, Inka Hizara." Then, true to what she just said, Kagerou grabbed whatever part of Takeda's tuxedoed self was convenient and proceeded to pull him along behind her. Her grip would last only long enough for Takeda to start moving. Then the arm that grabbed him would return to joining its counterpart in holding the book.
