Sometimes there were jobs for gnomes, and sometimes those jobs went right over there heads. Students (un)lucky enough to be nearby might be recruited to do the gnome's jobs for them. Other luckier students just might get to see the gnomes team up and FUUUUUUUUUUUU~SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIION HAAAAAAAAAA! into a super gnome.

Which would then stomp over to the student and get them do to their job for them.

Race: Hagspawn (Night Hag)
Hagspawn are the male offspring of Hags – as Hags are always female. Male offspring of hags rarely retain any of their mother's magical talents or skills, often gaining more physical prowess as they grow. Hagspawn aren't mistreated in Hag society, but they aren't necessarily equals either. Hags rarely keep male lovers around, usually producing offspring and then leaving. In the case of Hagspawn, they are usually put to work for the Coven, raised to serve them as assistants, porters, valets, etc. Generally Hags with Hagspawn use them as free labor, but still treat them as part of the Coven, even if as a lesser child. Night Hags even more so – as they are considered some of the most powerful Hags, usually leaders of their Covens. Night Hag Hagspawn aren't usually as deformed as other Hagspawn (generally taking on the ripped muscle, dark blue to light green skin-tone of their mothers) but retaining more “attractive” characteristics. Other Hagspawn tend to be physically misshapen (larger limbs or appendages, humps, misshapen faces) and are always the color of their mothers. This is often attributed to the “power” of Night Hags – being some of the most powerful and respected Hags in Hag society.

Personality:

(+) Loyal – If there is one thing that was practically beaten into Darren as he grew up, it was loyalty. The coven came first before his own needs – if his mother or one of his aunts needed something, he would go and fetch it, without question. It's not much of a stretch for him to extend that loyalty to his friends. Where people ask him to go, he is keen to follow. He is quick to volunteer for things, even if he may not want to do them. He just knows that sometimes people need back-up and he wants to be there to give it.

(-) Slow – Darren is not the... brightest candle in the candelabra, on paper. His early education consisted of learning to talk, and fetching things. As far as book-smarts go, he's as dumb as a coffin-nail, and probably half as sharp. He is slow to learn from books and things, but is good at learning by doing. This often makes him appear very stupid at times, since his language can sometimes be littered with horrible grammar and even made up slang. But give him a task to do with his hands and show him how to do it, and he'll probably be able to emulate it pretty close.

(+/-) Go'fer – Darren is pretty much programed to fetch things if someone asks him to. If they phrase the request in just the right way, it's pretty much automatic for him to drop what he is doing and go and get it. This is the result of years, upon years of being used for just that purpose by his mother's coven. Granted, the tone and phrasing have to be pretty spot on to what they do in order for it to trigger, but it's not too hard to accomplish. The tone is a simple off-hand conversational and the request just has to start with, “Darren, could you be a dear and...” and off he'll go. He tends to keep this fact a secret as much as he can, but even if it were revealed – he wouldn't mind overly much. He likes to fetch things. Makes him feel important.

(-) Overprotective – Darren can be a bit... touchy when it comes to his friends and family members. If he feels they are in danger, he's very likely to remove them from the situation – by force if necessary. Darren's no slouch either, he's been carrying heavy stuff around for his mother's coven for years, and while he may not look built to pack a wallop, those muscles have quite a surprising amount of force behind them. Granted, he'll attempt to be civil at first – but if it even looks like someone's he cares for is going to get hurt, gloves are off and it's pound your face time.

(+) Sensitive – Darren can be surprisingly tuned in to other people's feelings or emotions, especially ghouls. Perhaps growing up in a ghoul heavy environment gave him the opportunity to pick up on their emotions, their feelings and the way they think sometimes. He is quick to lend an ear to other people's problems, even give them some advice if they seem to need it – granted the advice may not be the best in the world, and is usually “punch them in the nose” but at least he tries! He tries to be a shoulder to cry on and a ear to listen when he can, often putting his own needs aside for others.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy?
Quite frankly, his mother doesn't trust that his adoptive sister is actually going to learn if she didn't send a watchdog to keep an eye on her and keep her on the straight and narrow. Darren was sent to keep a certain Night Hag (Rosmiera) from running rampant all over the place at Amityville and ensure that she got her education. If he happens to come out much more equipped to deal with the big-bad world of Halloween afterward, well, icing on the cake really.

Natural Ability:

Darkvision – Hagspawn tend to inherit their mother's ability to see in even the darkest environments (save magical darkness). Even with no light source Hagspawn can still see like it was day. The further an object is from a Hagspawn the more shrouded in shadow it becomes until it drops off into darkness. Hagspawn can still see perfectly well during the day - but still prefer to stick to the shadows, where they are used to being.

FEAR Ability:

Y1 – Hag's Eye: Darren's eye flashes bright red for a moment as he locks onto his intended target. (The Eye)
Y2 – Hag's Fists: Darren attempts to pummel his opponent with blow after blow with his fists. (Swift Strikes)
Y3 – Hag's Rage: Darren builds himself into a frenzy and attempts to clobber his foe with a heavy blow. (Battle Cry)

Pets:

Skitters: Skitters was smuggled by Darren to Amnityville. The boil was never allowed to keep pets at home, but he has raised Skitters in secret, hiding him in his sister's room to keep him away from the prying eyes of his mother. Skitters is probably the closest thing to a best friend Darren had aside from Rosy in the coven.

Fang: Fang was a Nantang gifted to Darren by his younger sister Rosy. Darren has taken great pains to train the normally aggressive breed into a keen watch-pet. Fang has a habit of hiding under Darren's bed and harassing uninvited guests in his room.

Violet: A nook Darren has grown quite fond of even in the short time he's owned it. Violet is quite spoiled, and is one of the only pets that actively gets to sit on Darren's bed when he is in his dorm.

Flare: Flare is another watch-pet for Darren, though unlike Fang, he likes to sit right out in the open, curled up at the end of Darren's bed, constantly watching the door. He has a bad chewing habit, so Darren keeps a fare amount of bones and other toys for him to chew on.

Rosmiera Vaughn - ❤❤❤❤❤ - Darren remembers when Rosy arrived at the Coven with their mother. Since that day, it was his job to ensure that she stayed safe, happy and entertained. He was tasked as her personal guardian, valet and servant. Whatever Rosy needed, Darren was told to bring to her. The bond of loyalty Darren shares with his adoptive sister is so strong that Darren will not think twice about putting himself in danger for his sister's sake. Her happiness comes first and foremost for him, as he has been tasked with her safety and happiness for so long he's not sure of any other way to think. Even if he is miserable and only wants to go home - as long as Rosy is smiling he will do whatever it takes to keep that smile on her face.

Siku - ❤ - If Darren could figure out a way to ensure that he never, ever, saw Siku's smug-a** mug again, he would. However, seeing as the boil is his sister's lover and from the looks of things going to be around for the near and indeterminate future... Well it looks like he's just going to have to grin and jacking bear the misfortune of having an a*****e for a brother-in-law.
