[HH PRP] Not Buying Any Of This (Tess/Evan)

At the contact with the weapon, Tess was seized with relief and concern simultaneously. On the one hand the attack meant play-acting time was over and that she and the Hunter were well on their way to finishing this encounter. On the other hand that blade had some nasty teeth that not only hurt her but also ruined her blouse. The first dig of teeth had Legs throw herself to the left, leaving Tess to fall to the right in what might suggest a clean split from the weapon.

If only the actual angle of the shove was capable. The upper half fell face down while the lower half rolled some distance away. And pause for dramatic effect...

"I just bought this blouse!" Her head was raised, eyes glowing menacingly as a sliver of red, straw-thin and taut as a whip lashed out, aiming for the Hunter's neck.

What in the actual ********> Evan thought, alarmed as the girl seemed to break right in half. He hadn't hit her that hard. Or maybe he had; it was hard to tell with the room still spinning. He paused for a moment, unsure of what to do next. Was he supposed to collect the pieces and bring them back with him? He didn't even know if he hadn't just bisected an actual person.

Evan's hesitation cost him dearly. Gir yelped in his mind as he staggered backwards, holding his throat where the creature had struck him. If he had been a normal person, his head would probably be just as far away from his body as this monster's legs from the rest of its body. It didn't bear thinking about--but it did bear getting angry about. Evan snarled soundlessly as he struck back, swinging his blade down teeth-first at the top half of the monster.

Legs continued to roll a few feet more for reasons involving momentum and her need of it. She wasn't running (or rolling) from the fight but it isn't easy to regain her footing without the proper leverage arms would have afforded her. That and the floor was surprisingly inclined.

Tess, meanwhile, was faster to retract her tongue back into her mouth, winding up for another lash. "I'm going to need a new blouse now," she remarked. The incoming blow isn't quite deflected by the large bat-like wings that tore from her back, claws lightly scraping at the weapon's surface before pushing off the ground and into the air. Her massive wings beat silently despite close proximity. "But I won't be horribly cliche'd and say I want it out of your hide. I prefer lace over leather."

Why was this thing talking so much? Was it a monster thing? Was it just one of those things that was universal to girls, regardless of species? Either way, "Don't care. Shut the ******** up and die already," Evan growled as he tried to swat the creature out of the air.

The ghoul lifted herself higher, and out of the Hunter's reach after the swing. She waggled a finger at him, clucking her tongue in disappointment. "You should care, meatbag, it means I won't need to be careful about skinning you as is." Whether or not the ghoul could do as she said wasn't important. This whole thing was an act, a distraction for her lower half to finally get back on her feet. High heels clattered noisily as Legs charged at the Hunter from behind, aiming a sharp 4-inch heel at the back of his knee. At that moment, Tess swooped down, tongue whipping repeatedly at her opponent.

Evan was still thinking of the girl--no, that was a word reserved for people, this thing was a ******** monster--as more of an annoyance than a threat. How was he supposed to take something whining about a torn shirt seriously? That was his first mistake. His second mistake was ignoring the freak's lower half. He paid for both of them as his knee was suddenly kicked out from under him, and he grunted with shock and pain as it hit the ground hard.

The moment that it took for him to raise Gir defensively was long enough for the creature's tongue to take him high on one cheekbone, dangerously close to his eye. It was pretty much over after that. Gir's growls and whines got higher-pitched and more desperate by the second as the monster attacked them relentlessly. Evan could feel it the moment that their shield broke, and not just because Gir retreated into his totem form with a pained yelp.

/Okay, this isn't fun anymore, I wanna go home now,/ Gir whimpered.

No. We don't run, Evan replied stubbornly, gritting his teeth against the bizarre--but still painful--onslaught. The long sleeves of his coat did little to soften the force of the blows against the arm he was using to shield himself.

/But I don't wanna dieeeeeeeeeee!/ Gir howled plaintively.

That would be a pretty stupid way to go. Death by tongue.

/It would be the stupidest of stupids let'sgohomenow!/

Reluctant and frustrated and angry at how easily he'd been beaten, Evan dug around in his pocket with his free hand for his Deus-issued pendant and got the hell out of there.
