"Ah, there we are," Shik announced amicably after a few moments, squinting in the distance. "Perhaps this one will be more lucrative."

Mort meant to ask what exactly he was looking for, but the executioner took off before he opened his mouth. Grumbling again, he set his mouth in a line and shambled after as fast as he could, hating every second he spent in this land. The whispers were bad enough in his head without having to physically hear their sibilant hisses in his ears.

Hopefully this time he wouldn't get needled through.

And in they went.

Unlike before, Shik was rather raring to go, and dove into the fray with a small battle cry, slicing the clawed creature's back in passing as he flew past. It was a forest of claws in there, and he had trouble navigating when there was no logic behind each movement, not sense or tactics to guess at. In a way, Shik missed that structure.

Mort, in the meanwhile, took a little longer than expected to get there because he did not, sadly, have wings. And when he did arrive, it was to be smacked about with a welcoming set of claws.

Shik said something to the tune of "Move your a**, boil!" as he clawed at the mist with a vengeance. This was nothing at all like fighting alongside Shaheen because at least they could be in sync. With this corpse, it was like . . . yelling at a corpse. Gods help him if that was the sort of help employed with the Initiates.

Mort, for his part, was glad to manage a hit at all, as the clawed monster reminded him a bit too much of his own Insanity mob memories, which meant even more mild PTSD happening.

The horseman rolled his eyes at their slow progress--either this boil was weak after his lucky first few hits, or this creature was tougher than the one before. Or both. Yes both of course, because students were, in fact, rather useless in most respects.

"Out of the way," Shik growled as his dagger became encased in flame. Like lightning he darted in and swung, cutting a wider swath with the fiery blade with a satisfying hiss from the beast. Attacking Insanity itself was probably not an option, but hearing this thing's cries was like music to his ears.

Mort was more than happy to stay away from fire thank you very much. He added a feeble bit of lightning in the aftermath, believing the creature to be ready for purifying--except not.

Shik cursed him from high above for being so useless.

Shik divebombed and struck the boss with a huffed snarl, irritated and ready to get his shiny things already. He might have been exhibiting magpie-like tendencies in his need to get nice things.

And then Shik tossed his crystals at the thing with a disgruntled look (which was then shifted to Mort, who looked at him levelly and did not back down).

"Do you have any prowess in battle whatsoever?" Shik asked snidely. "What Initiate could dare call himself part of our faction if he could not defend himself in battle, let alone fight off his opponents?"

Mort kept his council and waited for the purification to finish. He really, really did not feel like fighting more.

They each sifted through its remains in silence. Mort was a little disheartened not to see more fragments of Insanity to study later, but the shards would of course come in handy for battles to come. Shik was alright with the shards, if a little put off that he could not forge what he wanted right this second.
