I need some opinions...

To say it straight:
- I like a guy.
- He likes me.
- He's 19
- I'm 16
- Would it be considered appropriate to get together?

I really don't know. I want to, he wants to and there really is nothing stopping us. My mama always said that as long as I was 16, she wouldn't mind me dating 18/ 19 year olds. It's just he's concerned about the opinions of others and it sometimes makes me worry. What will everyone else think?

He can get in legal trouble even if you both want to be in a relationship.

For legal trouble you shouldn't have a problem, as most states' age of consent is 16 (31 out of 50 states, based on this link).
But this depends on what state you live in, as it can go up to the age of 18.

Talking about dating alone, it's should be okay since you're fairly close in age. At one point, I was 17 and dated a 19 year old and there were never any legal problems with dating each other so you should be okay .

Now, if sexual relations enter the equation - there can be trouble. Sometimes a "consenting" 16 year-old has sex with someone 18+ and it may not be the girl calling the police, but the parent(s) and end up getting the boyfriend arrested. Save sex until marriage is my advice and there shouldn't be legal troubles dating this guy.
