While the chieftain had spent a lot of time of late patrolling the tower and slowly helping to take back their lands, it had always been with a group. This had often been something that she had found enjoyment in, once being a warrior, one of those who fought best in groups, who was not necessarily used to working alone.

Today would be different.

The insanity that had slowly clawed its way through her, rendering her skin marred with grey, and her mind slowly taking the strain of its existence, had little too do with her need to be alone this time around. Though it had often seen to it that she felt too paranoid to be around others, she was finally beginning to feel like she was gaining some control, winning more battles against the affliction then she lost.

Today was one such battle. A fight that she felt she needed to do alone, without her friends to be a crutch for her to lean on. Without Shik's watchful eye waiting for the moment when she slid backwards and needed a hand to pull her back again. She needed this small victory to prove that among other things, she was also gaining back her independence.

She had struck out through the portal alone. She would start out small and easy, before determining whether she could handle something more.

She had hunkered down near the tower itself, one arm resting on her knees while the hand of her other trailed through the fog that clung to the ground. Insanity fog. Whispers slid and slithered in and out of hearing, louder then they had been on previous occasions. When had been the last time she'd had dose of distortion? If she couldn't remember, it had likely been too long. She could see the grey that etched itself across the skin of her arm, just as much as there used to be before Shik had stabbed her with his dagger last.

Something lumbered in the distance. She could see it, eyes lifting from the ground and staring straight ahead, as focused as a hawk on it's prey. She straightened up from her crouched position, her short sword summoned to hand before she ran off towards it, long blonde hair streaming behind her, arms pumping at her sides, and wings flaring behind her. Her pace ate up the distance between herself and the titan quite quickly, and within moments her wings were beating, sending her up into the air to give her the advantage.

She eyed the Titan from above, the blade of her sword beginning to almost glow, infused with yellow light that flickered then strengthened as she concentrated, until it appeared as bright and vivid yellow as the tattoos that adorned her skin. She then dove down, a wordless cry, a battle cry, shouted into the open air, her blade driving down, stabbing, and completely destroying the titan.

Shaheen found herself standing on the ground again, her gaze dropping to the ground. There was nothing left. She had put too much into it, and the titan had dissipated as a result. She hadn't done what she was supposed to do, the distortion shards in her pocket now useless. Her upper lip pulled back from her teeth in a snarl as she kicked at the ground. Stupid! She would have to find another one now.

There, already approaching was yet another of the titans. One of the smaller ones like the one she had just attacked, the ones that always seemed to be closest to the towers. Well, this time she was going to be a little more careful, at least. No more charging in with sword ablazing!

She began walking towards the titan with a sense of purpose in her stride, her sword still held in hand. When she'd closed the distance between them she leaped in and swung her blade clashing against it's hide, and bouncing off as though it had barely done anything at all. Spikes that were impossible to avoid were shot out at her, scraping against her side as she did her best to dodge away, rolling in the fog covered ground.

She sprung back up to her feet as soon as she was able, wings aiding her in ways that only those who spent nearly their entire lives flying could truly understand. Back upright, she was able to swing her blade around and strike against the titan once more, but found that once again, it's shell was too tough to crack. It was tempting, at that point to just use her Fear to strike it with a harder blow, but after the events of the first time, it seemed like it would be far too risky to try.

Struck with more spikes that tore into her shoulder, she gritted her teeth against the aching sensation of pain that they left in their wake, and stepped up to continue to try and carve away at the insanity beast.

This time she tried to stab the titan rather then slice at it, thrusting her sword forward, it's blade glancing against the titan and scraping past. Frustration etched her features as she once again found herself accosted with spikes that took her in her side this time, and warm blood began to ooze from the new wounds that were opened.

If Shik was here, he'd have probably had something to say about her poor performance so far.

She was so done with this. She didn't need to use her Fear to attack, but she did at least have another sword up her sleeve, or rather, in it's scabbard at her back. She reached back to pull it out with her free hand, now wielding two swords, one appearing to be shrouded in wispy tendrils of fog. Narrowing her eyes, she darted forward, and with another loud cry much like her first she struck out, first with one, and then with the other, her body lifting off of the ground as her wings spread out behind her. Spikes tore into her, but she ignored them. This was too important, and needed to be finished.

Landing back down on the ground in a crouch some few feet away from teh titan, hands lying flat on the hilts of her blades, she quickly shot back up to her feet and whirled back towards the foe. It had seemed to solidify, it's form no longer foggy, which only meant one thing.

It was time to purify.

the distortion shards were fished out from the pouch belted around her side, and tossed almost non-chalantly at the beast. She'd fought one like this before, she knew just how much was needed. Even while she did it, she considered whether or not she should remain and seek out another titan to attempt to purify before heading back. After all, the more the better, right? But a glance down at herself, streaked with blood and sliced up. The whispers in her head chose that exact moment to rise in volume, and she knew.

It was time to leave.

But not before she did a little bit of raiding for some useful materials. Couldn't have Shik winning their little unspoken competition, after all.

The most useful thing she could think of grabbing was the one thing she already had, something she had already used once before. It was essential in creating any weapon, and she scooped it up and pocketed it quickly, feeling as though she was well on her way.

She then turned to make her departure, taking to the skies to fly back to the portal and leave the insanity infected wasteland and find a place where she could rest and heal before giving it another go.
