Core Classes
xxxxxxxAstronomy - P
Sun was never really a "science-y" person. Plus, he doesn't have the natural talent in any particular science field, and he doesn't have the confidence to work harder to achieve a higher grade. Therefore, he would most likely fail this class, because he constantly thinks that he is going to fail, thus never putting any effort into studying for the OWL.
xxxxxxxCharms - E
Initially, he had trouble with charms. However, due to the nature of the class, he was able to get in at least some practice every week on the charms at hand. As time went on, Sun realized that it took less time for him to fully grasp a spell. This is, perhaps, the result of repetitiveness of the learning that allowed him to get accustomed to learning new spells. Besides, as an artist, Sun had grown used to visualizing his movements to find potential poses to sketch, and by going over a spell multiple times in one's head would translate to an easier spell performance in real life.
xxxxxxxDefense Against the Dark Arts - A
Although his wandwork is better than he previously thought, he does not necessarily try his best in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Unlike Charms, this class focuses on offensive and defensive charms, and Sun has no interest in violence whatsoever. Therefore, the boy tends to not think at all about these spells, which was enough of a difference from that of Charms to impact his performance.
xxxxxxxHerbology - A
Herbology, generally speaking, is filled with facts to memorize. However, the difference from the other OWLs he failed (namely Astronomy and History of Magic) is that the class is filled with peculiar and interesting facts. The human brain processes and remembers the information to which we react better than the more "boring" subjects. Sun, by simply paying attention and doodling caricatures of plants, was able to pick up enough information to earn an Acceptable of a grade.
xxxxxxxHistory of Magic - P
Much like his Astronomy class, he never truly believed that he was capable of memorizing facts after facts of history. Truthfully, this is akin to the self-fulfilling prophecy, in which because he thought he is going to fail, he does not give any effort into studying, therefore fulfilling the idea that he failed. And so he does.
xxxxxxxPotions - E
Potions is simply fancy-fied cooking. There is little to no focus on the taste, smell, or attractiveness of the liquid, but generally, if one was good at cooking, potions should be a breeze. Sun, with the talented hands of an artist, was able to master the culinary arts through the class Cooking With Magic, and the impact is then shown in the similarly structured Potions class.
xxxxxxxTransfiguration - O
Transfiguration requires one to think creatively and abstractly. Focus and concentration is the key to success, as is imagination. And Sun, having proven to be a more than capable artist, was able to master the art of transfiguration with little effort. As said by many, when an artist is focused on their piece of work, they tend to go insanely focused about it, some even skipping eating and sleeping for their masterpiece. This is applicable to Sun, although not as extreme. In addition, having (almost) stopped down-talking himself by thinking that ever little success he had was a fluke, he was able to flourish even more, leading to the highest possible grade on this OWL.
Electives
xxxxxxxArt - O
Sun, in his emotional state, turned to doodling to pass time in his classes. It soon became his way of relieving stress, and then his hobby, always carrying around his sketchbook wherever and whenever possible. His mediocre, amorphous figures slowly turned into recognizable art, and then improved until he considered himself to be an artist. Although his art is good, Sun himself thinks there is always something lacking from it, and seeks to further improve. Due to the fact that he constantly strives to get better, it is only natural for him to pass his Art OWL with flying colors. It would've been more than three years, after all, and three years is a long time for an artist to improve and develop.
xxxxxxxCooking With Magic - O
Cooking is an art in itself. The texture, taste, and smell had to be just right, accentuated by its look. The creative capacity of the Gryffindor is large and unique, allowing him to effectively use the many ingredients to create a mouth-watering dish. Plus, he was able to apply his artistic skills to decorate the platter in any way he saw fit. After all, a plate was like an empty canvas. Sun has, throughout the years, mastered the culinary arts.
xxxxxxxMuggle Art - O
When he was a beginner artist, and after he knew he wanted to improve his artwork, he turned to previous artists to look at how they created their masterpieces, and then applied his findings to his own drawings. Like this, he was able to learn little bits and pieces of an artist's life as well as acquiring new techniques for his art. This class opened so many new artists to Sun that he started wanting to know and research more about their art. As a result, due to interest and the amount of time Sun spent for this class, he was able to achieve a high grade. This, also, shows how smart the boy actually was, and if he had just spent a fraction of the time on his other memorization-heavy class, he would've done better than he did.
