[1v1] Ground Round [Sorrow + Maple]

[Toshihiko Two]

Sorrow was warming up to the gym.

The whole place had a really good vibe, and the open space bounced sound around in an echoey, solemn way that felt...familiar.

She was doing laps around the track, when she noticed another student in the vicinity. Another work out partner.

Her smile was slightly too wide as she trotted over. She sized up her opponent, and rested her hands on her hips.

"What would you say to a spar?" she asked.

This wasn't where Maple would usually end up, usually she would find herself in the library in between classes or just a nice quiet place to read. It wasn't even one of those wrong turn circumstances, she had pretty much intentionally wandered towards the gym. Maybe it was her recent spar, her first ever really, with Poke. Not like it had invigorated the little witch with a new sense of purpose and a need for violence, but simply an awareness that she was woefully untrained and lacked knowledge of fights. She knew she didn't have to excel at it - 'cause she didn't at anything in her opinion - but knowing was good, right?

Maple had no intention of fighting. Just observing. Walk in, sit on the bleachers and watch. But her timing couldn't have been worse to enter into the gymnasium, right at the moment when Sorrow asked for volunteers to spar with, like the witch had come just at the moment to offer herself up for the fight. Of course she had heard the request and knew where she stood - not too far really - and sort of remained frozen, meekly looking about and twiddling her fingers. Maybe... the other ghoul wouldn't notice her and she could slip away and do as she intended. Uh....

Yeah, Sorrow was looking directly at Maple.

She wasn't any kind of combat expert, and it wasn't really the winning- or losing- or even fighting that she liked. All-told (if asked) she'd qualify herself as not really into violence, man. It was just good to keep fit, and training with a partner, you could really get a wide range physical, mental, and spiritual exploration going.

It was an experience.

And that ghoul, that one right there, looked pretty cool. Energy-gelling wise.

"You. Right there. I think we've got like, a connection going on."

There was never an escape. And knowing it was the way with the world, Maple just sort of stood there and braced herself, looking completely apprehensive. It was hard to tell the mindset of the other ghoul, her exterior seemed gruff and ready for action. (A terrible thing to prejudge, but she had asked for volunteers).

"A c-connection?" Maple squeaked out, her brows creased together. She was pretty relieved that they were actually going to talk the matter out but she really had no idea what kind of connection they could possibly have. (Horns?)

"Yeah on a cosmic, underlying level. You feel it? In the air, it's the binding force of seeking enlightenment."

Sorrow took Maple's arm and drew her close, looking at the gym lights in a distant and mystical way.

"In order to balance the mind, you have to balance the body. You know what I'm saying?"

It was then that Maple felt the old familiar recoiling into one self, her shoulders hunching, her arms pulling in to her chest, the overwhelming look of worry. Because, no... she really didn't feel anything and for a moment her eyes actually glanced about to see if there was maybe something there she wasn't seeing. But there.. didn't seem to be.

And the witch didn't get too far with another possible escape when her arm was taken and she was pulled closer. At first her only response was a small pathetic little whine and a sharp intake of air as Sorrow continued. Maple looked at her, looked in the same direction and back at the ghoul. This was sounding more and more like one of those self help books she read in the shadows of the night, when no one could see her (like anyone did) in secret and in shame. "K-kind... of...?" She finally admitted.
