[1v1] Family Honor (Yin and Sophie)

There was only so much plant tending that Yin could stand. It was good, useful at least, and there were simple potions he had to work on. While the work was physical, it was much to dull to keep his attention, and by the end of it he was as wound up as if he had been sitting around all day writing an essay. The gymnasium was the perfect place to go to unwind.

The training dummy had probably seen better days. For now Yin was working on speed and precision, trying to quickly land extremely precise blows, focusing his strength in the way that he had been taught as a child. All in all it was a wonderfully peaceful day.

Sophie peeked around the corner to the entry of the gym, watching the boil carefully; a soft scowl playing across her features. She clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth as she watched him spar. He seemed to know what he was doing so she could probably count on him to protect Alex but she wasn't sure. The two of them had never really met - a fault that belonged to them both. But now he wanted to make things super official and he hadn't even asked for Sophie's approval. Nor had they even asked her to design their wedding outfits but that was a whole different story.

She took a deep breath and stepped into the gymnasium, hands resting lazily in her pockets as she made her way towards him. She cleared her throat. "Hey," she gave a half wave. "You're Yin, right? Alex's.. fiance." She took a step towards him, slowly closing the gap. "I'm his sister, Sophie." The small frown was back and she pouted a little. "Don't you know you need my approval before you can marry Alex?"

Her hands rose in front of her and she watched him carefully. "Now you have to work for it."

With the sound Yin's head turned, an unnatural angle for a human, but soon enough the rest of his body followed. "Ah yes, Miss Sophie." He nodded, recognizing her though they had seen each other very infrequently and it had been a while. He bowed to her before a scared look crossed over his face. She looked upset. And with no one else around, it was more than obvious that he had upset her somehow.

But now it all made sense. His eyes grew wide, and he straightened up, an apologetic look across his face. "I must apologize, I did not know the customs for such things. If it is your approval I must work for I will endeavor to do so." He did not wish to fight her, but when it came to Alexander, sometimes he was willing to do such things.

She watched the boil carefully and breathed out in a huff, shoulders slumping for a moment before she took her stance once more. It had occurred to her that she was, maybe - probably - overreacting a little but she had come too far to back down now. "Right, well," she said, suddenly. "If you lose, you can't marry Alex." Of course, that would never happen; her mother would throw a fit and Sophie would never hear the end of it. But maybe Yin didn't know that and maybe she could see how serious he was.

With that in mind, she jumped at him, closing the space between them; fist reaching out for his stomach.

Her words startled him, and the mantodae frowned. "I do not like those terms," he said softly. Risking Alexander on a fight? The zomboil would dissipate him if he lost.

Yin was slightly distracted when she came at him, and while he moved back to avoid the full force of her blow her fist still connected. Well. If that was the way they were going to play.

He reacted quickly, hand darting out with a snappy slap to her arm before drawing back in a defensive position.

The ghoul stumbled away from his slap, frowning and rubbing her arm a little. So he was gonna take this seriously, was he? Well, two could play at that game. Like before, she launched at him; fist flying towards his stomach once more. This time she felt it connect and her eyes widened as she jumped back, tilting her head. "Oh no," she mumbled. "Are you okay?" She hadn't meant to hit him that hard. She wasn't really mad at him, after all. She shifted on her heels for a moment before clearing her throat. "I mean, uh," her arms rose in front of her. "Your move." She tried to look serious but she was still a little concerned.

Alex might be mad if she hurt Yin too much.

The punch this time was still a slight surprise. She was aiming in the same place, which he had not anticipated, and when she connected it was with an all too familiar amount of zombie force. She seemed apologetic, and he waved it off, focusing on taking slightly shallower breaths that did not expand his stomach so much. "I prefer it if you fight honestly," he admitted. If he was going to "win" the right to marry Alexander it might as well be fair and square

If anything it helped him to get over any reservations about fighting her. This ghoul was strong, and this was a spar. If he closed his eyes and thought of fire, he could liken this to Miss Danny. Vaguely. In a completely unrelated manner. When it came down to it it just meant he was willing to attack with a bit more ferocity. He moved closer quickly, hands curling into fists, and aimed a couple of light but fast blows at her. Speed could overcome strength, and he was determined to prove it.

Sophie took his hits with what she assumed was full force. He hit hard and fast and she had no chance of dodging him. That was going to be a problem, she decided and if she wanted to win, she had to beat his speed with her strength. Because speed meant nothing if you were knocked onto the floor. So she backed away from him; already feeling the bruises this spar would leave and watched him carefully for a few seconds before she was moving forward and to the side, leg sweeping out to hit his and, hopefully if she caught him off guard, knocking him down.

She was rather proud of herself. Fighting wasn't her strong point but she was managing to land decent hits. Maybe she should pretend she's fighting for honor every time she has to fight.

This ghoul actually knew some things, or so Yin had to assume. She was being unpredictable, and she was fast enough to keep edging out his defenses. On his way down, claws that were trying to move to catch him might have accidentally nicked her. Whoops.

As the claws dug into the skin of her leg, the ghoul instinctively jerked her leg, catching the ghoul in whatever part of his body was in the way. Luckily, it wasn't anything hard and she glanced down at her leg, finding only a small scratch. Phew. She didn't realise nails could be so sharp and for a brief moment she looked at her own, wondering what it would be like to have claws. She back away from Yin, watching him carefully.

A puff of air escaped his lungs at the surprise at the additional contact before she pulled away, and he was grateful for the respite. Sophie was watching him, wary, and well she should be. He got to his knees slowly, one hand going toward his abdomen as if checking where she had punched him.

Then he burst into motion. He lunged forward, wings fluttering to give him a boost in speed, not bothering to straighten but heading straight for her knees. If this battle was to be fought rolling around on the mats, so be it.
