Quick Question: do you guys know of any good places to find large Pokémon figures (around 6-8cm in size). Back in gen 4, they used to regularly sell sets of Pokémon in this size at most stores, but now it seems impossible to find anything large than 2 inches. Any ideas?

6-8 cm or 6-8 inches? If you are talking about the Inches, then the local Toys "R" Us to me actually sells figures that have their own pedestal that are about 4 inches tall in my opinion. They sell them with their own Pokeball, or just as figures. The one I am interested in is a three set of the Chikorita line.

Aside from there, I don't generally see anything pokemon except for cards and games.

Was there a particular Pokemon or line you were looking for? From what I can tell you may be thinking of the Jakks Pacific figures. Their license on the toys expired a while ago - thankfully, seeing how their distribution was absolutely awful. Tomy has since taken over making Pokemon toys. Within North America, places like Target, Toys R Us, and Walmart carry some of the stuff. The quality and variety are better but the distribution is still a little shoddy.

Tomy figures are still the most popular but these are the ones that are roughly 2" in size. However they do make a super sized version, and those have been coming out fairly frequently. They're mostly available in Japan but you can find imports. More on that in the next paragraph.

Japan still has the best selection for merch seeing how the Pokemon Center is located there. Certain places in the US, such as Nintendo World and a few select locations on the west coast, also carry merch but the selection is nowhere near as good. Be careful buying online, especially from ebay, as there are a lot of fakes out there.
Sunyshore is a good bet, as are Hobby Link Japan, AmiAmi, AnimeRaro, and PokeVault.
I collect certain types of Pokemon merchandise so if you have anymore questions or anything shoot me a PM! (:
