Either her pathetic blocking was working or the boil was as ill practiced as she was, as terrible a thought that was - she felt bad for it too, oh she was just riddled with guilt here. He tried to swat at her again, though the broom she was holding up in front of her was doing well to block his pathetic attempts at attacking. Still, there was something strangely encouraging about fighting with her, maybe because she was taking him seriously.

She was still able to get away from his sharp claws in a reasonable manner, taking careful steps as if dancing. It was so very much like that in this fight, it seemed, or at least how she saw it as she moved, even with a little bit of a twirl and held her broom up just in time to stop another one of his attacks.
This time Maple pushed back with a small little jab to his side.

The broom poked his side, and Xavier gave a startled little squeal, hopping backwards. He relaxed, however, a second later, and gave her what he hoped was an encouraging smile while simultaneously missing hitting her entirely.
