There had been many changes lately.

Sometimes Mengyao simply sat and reflected on them, looking absently around at the place that was to be their new home. It was not as though he trusted Medea in the slightest - she was almost as vindictive and petty as the humans they so tirelessly fought against - but it was the lesser of two evils in this case. Mengyao had no intention of living among the Halloween creatures, lowering his status to be one of them; so he had chosen the option that would be the most beneficial, at least in the time frame that he could see from where he stood.

Yet somehow all of that paled in comparison to the thing that Mengyao was most concentrated on, and that was his eventual marriage to Hua Lifen.

He felt terribly unprepared, which was simultaneously horrifying and unacceptable. It was not as if he did not know Lifen, but he wanted things to be right, and he wanted them to be proper in how they turned out. A grand ceremony was most likely out of the question; he found he would much rather hold a smaller, more private ceremony instead, one where he would not have to deal with too many prying eyes.

But these were all things that needed to be discussed with Lifen herself, and so Mengyao waited patiently for her arrival, absently turning a small box over in his graying hands as he stood, gazing idly out at the sky above his head.
