She landed again, and the woman who had been bleeding everywhere, shaken, and unsure if she could continue, seemed to have disappeared completely. She had tapped into a reserve of energy, and her usual confidence as always, carried her quite far as well.

His arrow went wide, and she made a tsking sound with her tongue.

"Is that the best you can do?"

It could have been directed at his attack, or at his desperate attempts to direct her attention away from Ripley.

She took another step forward, abruptly ducked, and swept a foot out at his leg, two hands splaying on the ground, holding her up just enough to perform the maneuver as her wings tucked in against her back.

For something that had, a moment ago, been bleeding and snarling in pain, she was remarkably quick to get back on her feet. Chance slid an arrow into place; but his quick glance down cost him dearly, because in the next second he felt something smack against his legs. He collapsed instantly, crashing onto the hardwood floor, a gasp escaping his lips, pain reverberating up and down his spine.

"No," he wheezed out, fumbling to restring the bow. "Is that the best you can do?"

This time the arrow would be much more accurate, Chance pushing himself into a sitting position and snapping the bowstring; the arrow whistled through the air towards her, aimed at her leg.

If answered truthfully, her response would have been no. She knew she could have done immensely better than she had. She knew that she had lost control of her Fear more than once, had squandered powerful attacks and chances to heal by being unfocused.

But he didn't know that. Neither of them knew. What he knew was only what she had shown them, and what she had shown them was how it felt to bleed, to be so near death, to experience true pain, and it was not nearly enough. It would never be enough to cease her desperate need for revenge, or for the hunters complete obliteration.

She had straightened when he fell, and she had taken another step towards him, but an arrow struck her in her leg, and she too was downed, a hiss of pain escaping from between her lips and teeth as she fell.

Her knee hit the floor hard, icy pain shooting through it.

"I can do better." She hissed, a glance spared to her leg, before wild and angry eyes and bared, clenched teeth were both directed at him. "I can kill you both."

To hell with keeping either of them alive. She lunged for his throat with two hands.

Provoking her was a bad idea, but he needed to at least whittle her down enough to get Ripley free. Maybe if he could just hinder her, he could figure out how to get the sword out of the other's torso and pendant the both of them the hell out of there.

His arrows at least made her stagger, stumbling to the floor, and Chance scrabbled backwards, though he wasn't quick enough. A partially formed yell escaped his throat, but it was cut short by her hands around his neck and became a strangled sort of gasping wheeze instead. His fingers dragged an arrow free, and then a second -

"Sorry," he managed to get out, "But I don't plan on dying anytime soon."

The arrows were thrust upwards, straight into the creatures torso.

She was weak, her grip tight but not tight enough to stop him from choking out his words, not strong enough to put him under before he could stab at her with that damned arrow, which entered through her torso and straight out her back between the area were her wings protruded.

It was cold. They were always cold. But there was warmth as well as blood began to flow freely, quickly, no longer held together by her Fear, which was now unraveling, a broken thing that could not continue to save her. The pain had been sharp, immediate, and now, every part of her that had previously been attacked began to hurt much more as well.

And yet she still would not give up. She was not made to give up, to quit. She would not stop. Her hands released their grip, and with a cry of anguish combined with sheer rage, with her hands balling up into fists, her own nails piercing the flesh of her palms until red began to drip from them as well.

And then one of those hands opened, shaking, but it opened, and soon it closed again, but this time around the hilt of her short sword, which had faded from where it had been embedded in Ripley's body, desummoned from one position to be summoned to another.

She took that hilt with her second hand, and she stabbed it down, mirroring the same strike he had just given to her, and also, coincidentally, that which she had taken out Ripley with.

His vision wavered; her grip was tight around his throat, but he'd at least manged to do some damage to her. Blood spattered Chance's front, spilling across his chest, and her hands released him; he let out a sharp gasp, his lungs aching for air, his fingers loosening around the arrows embedded in her chest.

Chance did not have an opportunity to move away before he felt the tip of the blade against his stomach; and then it sank into him, and he let out a scream of pain, a hiss between clenched teeth, and shoved upwards as hard as he could, trying to wriggle his way out from beneath the sword.

"Go the ******** to hell," he spat at her, and each inch of the sword out of him felt white hot. He dragged himself away from her, Chance staggered to his feet, wavering slightly, and then darted dizzily over to where Ripley lay motionless.

"Sorry," he said hoarsely, dropping to his knees beside him, his arm wrapped around his stomach to staunch the flow of blood. "Let's get the ******** out of here."

He seized the other man's arm, bent his head, and fumbled beneath his shirt with bloodied, bruised fingers that closed around the pendant at his neck, and with a whoosh and a gust of displaced air, the two of them had disappeared entirely.

Her arms shook as she pushed down with that blade, fighting to push it through his Fear shield, to let it have meaning, to make him bleed as she had made Ripley bleed, to leave him dying on the floor as she had with him. A part of her wished that Shikoba had been here to see this, to watch her take down not one, but two hunters. He would have been so proud of her. So proud. Not like the angry bear that had snarled at her for having been nearly captured by one hunter all on his own.

She strained, but what strength she had left was not enough. She let out a frustrated sound, and then a gasp as his hands shot out, shoving her back. Her grip loosened from her blade, which spun to the floor with a clatter, before it ceased to exist once more.

She felt dizzy, and again her hand went to the flow of blood that fell freely from her abdomen. Her vision began to blur, and to darken, but she fought it. She was lying on the ground, and she didn't remember how she had gotten there, but that was not where she was going to stay, no. She was going to...going to....

The last thing she saw as she struggled to sit up again, to move, to react, to stop him, was the both hunters disappear into thin air.

And then she collapsed in a pool of her own blood, eyes rolling back into her head.
