Lurks snarled, the sound rattling in his bony lungs, dry like a rasping whisper-- and bit her, right on the shoulder. HA.

Hollandaise screamed, the sound shrill and piercing and full of the sharp cracks of breaking branches. Suddenly, panic shot through her. her leaves, her LEAVES. Her arms flew up to push at his to scratch at him, but nothing worked. He was going to eat her and her leaves. Hollandaise tried to back up, to get away.

Lurks had his jaws locked down tight, refusing to unhinge. He was the viper, attached and voracious. A few leaves came free, although once swallowed there merely fluttered out through his ribcage, unconsumed.

Finally, he let go, smug,

"You tried very very hard. But it was not enough."

Her eyes were wide, unseeing. No, no, this was everything she didn't want. Not enough. Never, never enough. It was her weak spots all rolled up into some small package and placed squarely in Lurk's jaws. Her scream had quieted to a sort of hiccuping keening as her vision swam.

"I will.. become enough." A thin, desolate hiss, choked out between clenched teeth.

"Not today," Lurks crooned, a fond and whispered promise, and laid his hands against her neck, squeezing. "I will make sure."

As she began to dissipate, he laughed. "Maybe I will see you again very very soon, and we can play again."
