"Because most only turn to the legions of hell when they are truly desperate. Contrary to what you might believe about my kind, we try to remain inconspicuous in our presence. It wouldn't do for us or our masters if we were discovered, and become dreadfully difficult to fulfill our end of the bargain" Schwartz said easily. "Now I'm sure such rituals have been at least somewhat trying, my lady. Please, get some sleep and I shall clean up the remains here."

With that, the noblewoman did bid her accomplice goodnight before doing just that. The ritual and branding was a difficult, if worthwhile, experience. Rest would do her good. Especially since the next day would be even busier.

When Valerica came down the next morning, all traces of the ritual were gone. A very pleasant smell was drifting through the air as breakfast was being prepared, and an exquisite place setting already laid out in the dining hall.

Valerica was pleasantly surprised by the sight before her. It was as if the ritual had never occured. Had she not seen the brand with her own eyes before donning gloves this morning, she would have had to wonder if it ever happened at all. Unable to resist, she headed towards the kitchens to see what the source was for that heavenly smell. Surely it couldn't have been the work of any the hicks in this establishment!

"Good morning, my lady." Schwartz held a calm smile as he stepped out of the kitchen to greet his mistress with a bow, his cool appearance ruined somewhat by the nice apron he wore over his suit and the bandana that kept his hair back while he worked. "Breakfast will be ready shortly. Shall I get you something to drink in the mean time? Perhaps some fresh fruit for starters?"

After an initial moment of shock, Valerica flashed her butler a smile and nodded. "That would be lovely, thank you." Afterwards, she went to seat herself, quietly wondering if the food he was preparing would taste as good as it smelled.

Schwartz turned on his heel and went back to the kitchen, quickly returning with a silver tray balanced on one hand. Balanced atop that was a small plate no larger than a saucer carrying a nice plump half a grapefruit and a small carafe full of orange juice. "Currently baking is a breakfast soufflé with eggs, cheese, peppers and onions with a side of sausage. I do hope the menu is to your liking." he told her as he set out the first course of breakfast before her and filled an already set wine glass full of the pulp free juice. "I'll also start a cup of coffee for you when you're done. Does my lady take it with milk or sugar?"

Valerica almost felt nostalgic when faced with such exemplary service. It made her feel a little bit like she did before her exile. A sliver of power and a touch of dignity. Her lips curved into a genuine smile and a spark lit up her silvery eyes. "Both, please." Was it wrong to begin feeling such joy? It had been so long since she'd had a servant of this caliber, discounting the whole demon thing. She did not yet allow herself to think of the hell she faced down the road, deciding to enjoy such simple pleasures while she still could.

As if timed perfectly to planetary allignment, Schwartz came back out with a plate with a silver lid almost as soon as Valerica finished her first course. With his free hand he took away her empty plate and set the new one down, removing the lid to reveal a perfectly golden soufflé of fluffy eggs and cheese and two thick, juicy sausages on the side. "Your coffee shall be ready shortly. I do hope everything is to your liking." he said with a bow as he backed away back into the kitchen.

Breakfast was, to put it simply, exquisite. Schwartz clearly didn't ******** around when it came to his duty, no matter how big or small the task might be. Valerica kept as much noble distance as was appropriate, but from side comments she occasionaly made or from the look on her face, it was clear that she was pleased by his skill and effort.
