His blow hit, but it was not the best of attacks and by this point he'd taken rather a lot more damage than she had, she thought. Although it would probably still be too early to consider the match hers, it was at least beginning to lean that way.

Unless of course he pulled something truly spectacular out of the bag; it was not impossible and becoming haughty would only make it easier on him.

Best to keep her wits about her until the very end of the spar, then.

Using illusion magic, Pel can make his weapon indescribably terrifying, reflecting his foe's deepst-seated primal fears. This works like Phantasmal killer does in D&D (Without the killing part) in that its pretty much all in his target's head: he activates the ability, their brain does the rest. This also means that no deep-seated fears are revealed (unless they scream them out of course) because all he perceives is his sword in its normal – if creepy – form.

((Pelagion Defends for 1))

Right. Plan. Well, he'd used his FEAR, and he couldn't use it again for a while - that much he knew. Not good for him, and all. And she seemed to dodge his attacks...

Damn, he needed to try to think. He tried to set up a block with his sword, watching her. "You're probably gonna win..." he said, not sounding particularly upset about that at all...

She'd been moving to start another attack when he spoke and missed her step out of sheer surprise. A moment of flailing, and then she was once again composed.

"Ah yes, the thought has crossed my mind. But there is time yet."

Yeah, to jack with being strategic and defensive. Pelagion rushed in at the opening, slamming his sword down in a pretty admirable hit. "Yeah." he said, "You may have a point."

She recoiled, having taken his hit straight on. "Indeed, the tide of battle can always turn," she tried counter-attacking, but her strike completely missed her opponent. A sigh, then a hard look at her whip although she knew the fault was hers and not its.

"It's looking like that right now" Pelagion commented, though considering his attacks weren't too effective, he wasn't sure if it was turning or just... stagnating. "Hey, do you do lots of these?" he asked, watching her warily - he was starting to tire. How long did these things normally go?

She had thought that might be the case, until his latest - quite ineffective - attack. She quickly counter-attacked in a series of nimble movements but perhaps it looked a bit more fancy than it was actually effective; at least she was fairly sure she'd done more damage than he had, so that was something.

"I have done a few," and then to be more exact, she elaborated; "two spars, so far. And yourself?"

"First one." he said. Still, that meant they were both pretty green - both beginners, as she had said. She seemed so much more mature, but hey - maturity was kind of strange in Halloween anyway. That also meant it was up to pure luck and chance at this point, since they were basically equally unskilled. Well s**t. he thought,

"I guess its going pretty well, all told."

"Indeed," she inclined her head, agreeing. So far none of them had made any terrible faux pas - that she knew of, anyway. That would certainly count as going pretty well, in her opinion.

Striking out at him yet again, she was happy to see that not only did her attack connect, it was even a fairly strong one.

"Oof!" He was starting to not feel so good, so he struck back... but his core wasn't really in it, and he was tired. It was all he could do at this point to bring his sword up to a guard position, and wait for her next attack... because tired as he may be, he didn't want to give up on that second wind, not yet.

His attack had not been successful and Davyne quickly counter-attacked, attempting to circumvent his guard; her whip struck against his sword, but the tip of it rebounded and made it through his guard, striking sharply at his cheek.

And then, she paused, evaluating her opponent. His movements had changed, she thought, becoming those of one on the brink. She herself was not at peak condition; there was no denying that he had done a great deal of damage to her as well. Nonetheless, he looked worse off than she did, she thought.

"Do you wish to end the spar?"

"Y... you're kidding, right?" he gasped, managing to score a hit. It gave him time to think. "Maybe... I should. Is that a thing I can do, uh, abdicate?"
