He made one more turn before he started booking it through the maze. Whatever was behind him grunted and followed; he didn't look back. Couldn't. He was focused forward, hoping, praying that he'd find the exit before whatever it was finally caught up to him.
Left, right, right, left, left...
Rhys came to a grinding halt at the dead end he found himself faced with, chest heaving and pulse thundering in his ears. His gaze darted around the immediate area, desperate for any sign of an exit. He found none and turned around. Too late, there it was. Bleeding. Skinless. Charging right at him. He managed to throw a punch as it sank its teeth first into the arm he threw up in an effort to defend himself. The warmth of his blood coated his shirt as it tore through the flesh of his arm first, then the fist that he'd been using to try and get it off. The pain was excruciating and his cries were only of agony and desperation until he felt its teeth take hold of his throat, and SNAP.
The brunette woke with a start, cold and damp and suddenly on the floor. His chest was still heaving as he slowly put a hand to his throat, then sat up and inspected the rest of his body in the darkness of his dormitory. He was still wholly alive, apparently, and it was just a dream. Vivid, but a dream.
With a groan he got up and checked his phone. It read 4:48AM and without pause he got up and got ready to start the day an hour earlier than usual. There was no way he'd be able to get back to sleep now, anyway.
