After his trials and tribulations on the other side of the Wildwoods portal, Bren had returned home with a renewed interest in sparring. Not because he had actually enjoyed all that vine monster fighting, but because doing as much enchanting as he had so quickly had made him curious about his offensive spells. Could he make them stronger without risking speed? That was what he was here today to find out.

Normally the boil wasn't a fan of hitting ghouls or friends or anyone under him grade-wise, but in this particular instance, he wasn't thinking of those who approached as accidental victims. He was thinking of them as test subjects.

He could do whatever he liked to test subjects.

Bren stood outside the gym, hunching a little in his Amityville sweats and trying to look even more nerdy than he did on average. The sooner he got this over with, the sooner he could get back inside and make improvements.

If he had been aware that he was being sized up as a test subject for a reaper of all terribly insulting things, Cearney would have given Brenley the what-for and other agitated ranting.

Instead, he walked in and just grumbled to himself.

That fight against that sorceress had been embarrassing at best, considering not only could he not land a single damn hit, he also succeeded in entirely backfiring his FEAR attack. Never had he seen anyone blast themselves for so much damage without doing an ounce of it to the other party. And the other party was a reaper! Weren't reapers squishy, anyway? (Never mind inferior.)

He refused to have his a** handed to him again. Cearney liked his a** where it was, anyway. Not in his face or on the ground or anything like that and especially from a non-demon.

Unfortunately for Cearney, the first soul his eyes laid themselves upon was a nerdy alumni he didn't realize was, in fact, an alumni.

There. That boil would do nicely.

Forgetting his pathetic stance now that he had a potential volunteer, Bren straightened and approached the leprechaun, oblivious to the boil's internal disdain. Had he been able to hear the other's thoughts, he probably would have agreed about the whole squishy thing.

"Hello! Good afternoon. If you're looking to spar, I could be of assistance." As he spoke, Brenley reached into the one belt pouch he hadn't left back in his room and scooped out a handful of previously prepared sand which he casually sprinkled over the boil's head.

When the reaper approached, Cearney became quite aware of how tall the other boil was.

Sure, to most people, six feet wasn't all that tall. It was tall, but there was certainly taller. However, to Cearney, a lot of people seemed tall, considering how short he was. This terrible reaper seemed absurdly so, and Cearney's ever-present frown just deepened.

He hated tall creatures.

It wasn't anything personal -- okay, he was lying, it was about their height compared to his own it was totally personal and he'd knock this tall cool down by his knees so he could quit with the smiles and the good afternoons it certainly was not good not when he had to spar and look up and tall squishy-

Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow

His thoughts came to a smashing half when there was a barrage of rocks and stones dropped onto his head. He could hear the clanging in his ears and it immediately made his head throb. Instinctively, he ducked, but considering it was a rain of stones from above, ducking wasn't exactly effective. All that did was make the rocks pelt other parts of his body.

The nerve-- !

Cearney would not take that kind of flippant, ignorant behaviour from anyone, especially not a reaper! (Any irony was entirely lost on him.)

Indignant, Cearney stomped his foot down before charging Brenley and attempting to knock him over by ducking down and grabbing onto his knees. In the meantime, he unleashed the power in his FEAR bracelet, determined to do as much damage as possible.

All things considered, it probably felt like a rock.

If that rock was a pebble.

And hollow.

HP: 7/30......
Damage: 1 + 2 from FEAR bracelet gj Cearney

Yes, yes. Very good. That had appeared to hurt more than adequately, and the sand and stones had taken a fraction of the energy to enchant. He stood tall in the face of his triumph, feeling a little bad about the whole thing now that it was said and done. He drew in a breath to apologize and move on. He wasn't expecting the knee tackle.

Brenley lost his balance as the diminutive demon struck, toppling onto his back with a grunt of discomfort. Well, if that was how it was going to be...

He didn't waste time, pulling a slightly larger stone out of his pocket and placing it on the boil's back. It was his usual FEAR bomb, but this one was sticky. It clung to Cearney's clothing, the leprechaun's body protecting Bren's own as the bomb exploded.

Ha! Cearney was rather victorious he actually managed to knock that rude tall reaper down, and was about to get up and give him the what-for when he suddenly felt something smashed onto his back. What in Jack's name--?

He reached behind himself to pull it off, becoming distracted from his mission of Keeping The Man Down when he was starting to realize the stone was not coming off. At first he thought it was bad leverage, but no matter how much he tried to yank the stone off, it wasn't going anywhere. At all. It was stuck. The stone was stuck to his back. What the fu--

That was all he had time to ponder before he was blown forward from the force of the stone exploding behind his body, flying over Brenley's head considering his diminutive stature and therefore weight.

He smashed into the ground a bit like a rag doll, and it was clear his consciousness had been gone long before that.

Not only had Brenley managed to damage the leprechaun, he also mamaged to completely knock out a first year. Cearney was entirely unresponsive. Honestly, it was a little surprising he hadn't dissipated yet.

If only it was that easy to knock out a hunter.

Brenley paused, looking up at the sky from his position on the ground. In hindsight, he probably shouldn't have retaliated with such fervor, but it was all good practice for them both, he supposed. It was likely he had also made another enemy, but at the very least he could do something that might begin to repair that.

The reaper sat up, wincing at little when he saw the crumpled form of the exploded leprechaun. He took his time getting up fully, halfway expecting the boil to regain consciousness and continue the attack, but when he did not, Brenley picked him up and carried him back to the demon dorms. It had been a close call between terming him a demon or a reaper, but considering he had never seen the boil around his own dorm, Bren made a choice and hoped he was right.

As he set him down on the steps and backed away, Brenley noticed the boil's bracelet. He had thought he'd felt something strange during their brief altercation, but he'd chalked it up to some new attack he hadn't bothered to familiarize himself with. But what if it was... that? He leaned closer for just a moment, prodding the thing lightly before stepping back. Okay, maybe not. It felt like a bracelet.

Everything was black.

There were a few moments where Cearney was convinced he had properly dissipated. Considering he hadn't before, he didn't exactly know what it felt like...

The first thing he noticed as he stirred was the fact that it felt like he was floating, after all. He didn't really notice the reaper carrying him around like a doll considering everything was blurring and spinning at best, and he quickly closed his cracked eyelid in an attempt to fight the nausea off.

The cold was the next thing to catch his attention, and Cearney shivered just a bit when he was set on the stairs of the Demon Dorms. The feeling was familiar enough, but he usually didn't feel it on his back. Under his feet, maybe. That sounded about right.

He was fairly sure he had been in the gym when he was so viciously attacked, but this was definitely not the gym. He was on stairs, that much he was starting to understand. How exactly did he end up--

The sudden sensation of something pressing against his bracelet made Cearney recoil on instinct, and his eyes popped open just in time to see who was doing it.

Jackdamned reaper.

He was still too out of it to aim properly, but he did smack at Brenley's hand to make sure it stayed away. Not only was that not the reaper's to have, not that he could really remove it anyways, he also couldn't have anyone touching it. That invited questions. Questions he honestly didn't want to answer, or for that matter, wasn't sure he could. He still wasn't entirely sure how it worked, but he supposed that was why only The Black Sands seemed to have them...

Shaking his head out of the mud, Cearney came to a sitting position and made sure to give the reaper the hardest glare he possibly could. Considering he was fairly sure this reaper a*****e was the one who had carted him here now, it probably was not as threatening as he would have liked it to be. All bark, not a whole lot of bite.

So he'd bark a bit louder.

"Really?" It wasn't really a question. "Don't touch me you jackdamned enchanter." Grumbling only partially to himself, he made sure to add, "Can't even summon your own magicks..."

"Oh... heh. Sorry." He hadn't meant to heh. Hehing made it seem like he didn't respect others' property or their personal space, which he did, but judging by the look on the other boil's face, he probably didn't much care what some reaper thought about anything in either case. At least Bren was now certain that the other kid really was a demon after that remark. It stung a little, less than it might have considering he had just kicked this kid's a** with no real provocation, but the bite was noticeable.

"And I'm also sorry about striking you without a reason," he said, even though he wasn't. "I'll keep my useless magic away from you in the future." Bren's eyes remained on the bracelet the other wore, noting his protectiveness. Hm.

"I'll just be on my way then."

Heh?

Heh?

Cearney's eye twitched, but he mostly kept his face in a thin glare, attempting to not let this a*****e reaper's behaviour get to him. (Really it was too late, it had clearly already gotten to him.)

There was a considerable amount of victorious viciousness added to his expression, though, when the reaper remarked on his useless magic. Clearly what he said had gotten to the other at least a tiny bit. "You should be," he remarked, not offering a word of forgiveness.

Carefully gathering his bracelet-adorned arm under his other arm when he crossed them, he snapped a, "Good. Goodbye."

Hrmph.

He wanted to snark, but Brenley had never been very good at it. Sarcasm he was better at, dour hopelessness streaming out of him when he didn't even try sometimes, but the best response to snapping criticism was more of the same, and he just didn't have what it took. At least his feelings didn't seem to mind.

Until next time, tiny demon. A winner is you.
