Pokerus may have graduated some time ago, but she was one of those monsters who still hadn't found their true purpose in life, also know as she had no jacking idea what to do, so she was still content to hang around Amityville. It was the one place where action was always happening, Legacies dragging you into alternate dimensions, being thrown into the human world to fight giant horses, and other events that generally happened.

Nothing of that nature was occurring at that moment, but the dragoness still located something of interest, which was another opening into the haunted house. stepping onto the familiar rickety floorboards, she found herself in a long corridor, filled with moldy picture frames, the paint too faded to make out what the original picture looked like.

She stopped at a closed door, grabbing the door handle to wrench it open, but the hinges were so rusted the wood just snapped under the pressure, and off came the entire door with a loud crack.

"...Well fine then." She huffed and dropped it, making more noise. "'Ello~, any hunters about?" Since they would be the most likely occupants around.

Sometimes, crawling out of bed was difficult. Just knowing he had duties and responsibilities to uphold was like carrying the world’s weight on his shoulders, and Wilson wasn’t ready to become the next Atlas. He was weak, pitiful, a disgrace, but even so he made his out of the bed sheets and into his uniform, onto the field, into the portal, and into the Haunted House.

He’d even managed to grab another cup of coffee on the way out. This was starting to become his life blood. Goggles dangling around his neck, Wilson silently walked around the house as he looked for nothing special in particular. The man knew his duties, but coming here at all was nothing short of a miracle.

As he heard an echo behind him, Wilson slowly turned around and the fog seemed to clear to reveal said-hunter drinking from his coffee. His eyes were no longer red, replaced by a pair of thick-framed glasses, his side bangs shorter while the rest had grown, shadows grew beneath his eyes, and he had a slight slouch, but the face shape was there. So was the build, the clothes. The overall look was still Wilson Hopkins.

At first the fog obscured the figure standing there, but as it began to thin Pokerus saw the familiar white coat of a hunter, but more importantly she saw the familiar goggles hanging around his neck, and any sense of wariness was forgotten.

"Wilson!" She called out, grinning from ear to ear, her tail flicking excitedly at seeing him after so long. The last time they had met was in another reality, except instead of being in a space ship it was in medieval times. With knights.

She jogged over to him, but her movements stopped when his features became clearer, and her smile faded. She was sure it was Wilson, but this time he seemed...off. It wasn't the glasses hiding his gaze, but the way he stood, slouched over, and the darkness ringed under each eye made him seem incredibly tired.

"Wilson?" She said again, her voice holding a twinge of concern. Had something happened to him?

As he turned around, Wilson heard a semi-familiar voice. It’d been too long since he’d last heard the dragon call out his name, but it seemed to ring with familiarity. “Pokerus?” He said the ghoul’s full name somewhat slowly, with careful caution as he tried to drag up faded memories. It was like an eternal struggle between forgetting, letting himself drown in the abyss, and reaching for anything to grasp, to pull himself out of the well.

“Poke, wasn’t it?” Brown eyes drifted to the side as he continued to drink from his cup. “It’s been a while, but I honestly didn’t think I’d still find you hanging around here. Don’t you have bigger and better, grown up things to do?” Dry laughter as he slid his hands into his pockets. As for him, this was the bigger and better. Supposedly.

Slowly her name was repeated as she watched Wilson begin to recall memories, which ones she had no idea of, until it seemed he knew who she was. "Yeah, thats me." Was her conformation, her excitement long gone.

"It has been a long time hasn't it." She repeated, wondering what ever could the hunter could be drinking from that cup. He seemed to like it, continuously sipping on it's contents. She didn't respond to his question however(She would get to that adult stuff when she felt motivated enough), intent on watching his every move. Her finned ears flattened against her face, eyes narrowing slightly. That laugh didn't seem right either...

Frowning, the dragon moved closer, her steps cautious, until she stood right in front of Wilson. Then, slowly, she reached out to his face hoping to take the glasses off so she could get a better look at him.

The lack of excitement did not go unnoticed, but the man was too dead inside to fret much about it. He merely continued to plow through the conversation. A gloved hand reached up to grab his chin as brown eyes looked toward the ceiling. “Normally I’d give you a timeframe, but I’ve lost track of time.” Not only had the days and weeks begun to blur together, but so had the months. It was only recently that time started to slow down, to have actual meaning from one day to the next. It was a slow process, one that could have been expedited with medicine that actually worked on him, but he would have to putter along on sheer willpower alone for now.

As with all glasses-wearing humans, Wilson looked tired when the dragon slid off his glasses. Squinting behind strongly-focused glass did that to a person, but at least now the shadows beneath his eyes were more obvious. He squinted his eyes even more before slowly moving his arm in random directions to grab his spectacles. “You know I can’t see a thing without those, right?”

Pokerus knew about glasses and their primary function, as even halloween creatures needed to use them sometimes. But now that she could see his face properly, the dragon felt ill, aghast at just how deep the shadows were.

The glasses were handed back after he spoke (in truth she hadn't known that, which made her feel worse considering that was a pretty big liability for a hunter to have, especially if he lost those glasses). and she was left to watch him nervously.

"...You look like s**t." She spoke, not meaning for her words to be a insult but still harsh nonetheless. "Whats going on Wilson? Have you been getting enough sleep? Has Caelius been working you overtime?" Her expression then turned angry, her mind trying to come up with explanations as to why he looked so exhausted. "Has someone been trying to hurt you? Because if they have then let me know who it is so I can fight them! I'll beat up any horsemen that dares to lay hand or claw on you!"

If he had a cloth, Wilson would have wiped his glasses with it, but for now he would deal with the finger prints and dust marks scattered across the lens. He was sure there were some spectacle-wearing hunters that didn’t have terrible eye sight, but he’d needed eye wear since he was a small child, so it was only natural that his prescription crept up higher and higher with each passing year until finally, he was basically blind without them.

“…so like I always do,” he answered with a dry smile, but the concern was appreciated nonetheless. Wilson pulled the corner of his lips into a lopsided grin as his eyes softened. “Nothing to worry about it. There’s just been a lot of paperwork to deal with. You’d think trying to save the world would involve less reports, but I guess not?”

Perhaps she was so used to seeing alternate versions of Wilson that she hadn't realized this was his 'normal state', but it still worried Pokerus, feeling that he wasn't telling the whole truth. "Why would you even need to fill out paperwork?" She asking, looking less angry now. "Aren't you supposed to...uhh..." Actually she wasn't sure what his role was, knowing that hunters weren't about to divulge their battle tactics to the enemy.

Oh, right, technically it was her fault he looked like this. For existing.

"...Is halloween really that much of a threat?" Her voice grew quieter, more contemplative. "I always knew we weren't just about 'scaring humans for fun', but I didn't know it was so bad. Unless it's the horsemen doing all this, they can go ******** off." Yeah, it was easier to just blame them.

The grim reality was that Wilson was different, at least to Poke. The last time she’d seen him he’d been a bit tired, but still chipper. Pulling out a fake, saccharine smile was still easy as breathing and none of his more serious problems had shown signs of surfacing at that point, but now?

Now he was just a shade of what he used to be, and he didn’t know how to go back. This was Wilson’s new normal—dark eyes and hollow cheeks, grim smiles and dry remarks.

“What’s an organization without their paperwork?” He laughed dryly. “We’d never be cohesive enough.”

His eyes lingered to the side. “Halloween is a large place, you know? And we’re always investigating the horsemen. There’s a lot of things to look into.”

Ever since she had first met him, Wilson had become someone that Poke had grown to care for. He had always shown her great kindness, regardless of the reality they had been in. Even in this one where they were considered enemies he was nice to her, and she could still emphasize, understanding what it was they were fighting for.

But even so, it didn't mean she knew that much about him. She knew his smile, and his kind nature, but did she really know him? Know what it was he desired the most, what troubled him so much, and above all why had this 'paperwork' caused him to look so degraded. Like he had been beaten so badly he had no nothing left to fight with.

For a monster she knew much about humans, but this was something she did not know or understand.

Without warning her hands reached out and clasped his shoulders in a firm grip. "What is it?" She asked, her voice sounding desperate. "What is it you need to do? What are you trying to investigate? Please Wilson, let me help you, I can't just stand by doing nothing!"
