[PRP] Gotta Go Fast (Ignatius x Arrakis)

Ignatius' visible relief was puzzling to Arrakis--had he thought he'd refuse...? Should there have been a reason he might have refused? Would other creeple think it was weird that Arrakis didn't refuse?

...Eh, who cared? Arrakis could worry about that if and when he had to.

Arrakis saw Ignatius start to back up and matched him walking forward, making sure his phone and other personal items were secure as he also matched his speed to Ignatius'. At least his legs--and thus his stride--were long, because that actually helped a great deal in keeping up. True, he wasn't that much taller than Ignatius, but every little bit counted. As Ignatius told him to catch up and darted off, Arrakis surged after him. That Ignatius didn't run off at a blistering pace was both noticed and appreciated, as Arrakis grinned and prepared to put forth his best effort in keeping pace. Hey, maybe one day Ignatius wouldn't need to go as easy on him!

When Ignatius looked over his shoulder and thought that maybe Arrakis was gaining on him a little -- well, he just couldn't let that stand!

So he turned around and started running faster, refusing to let Arrakis actually catch up to him. At some point, he decided that this was going to be a race against someone instead of a friendly jog, but it seemed like he was having enough fun with it.

At some point, he suddenly stopped running, a wide grin on his face as he swirled around to face Arrakis. "I win!"

Because they were racing, obviously.

Arrakis did not fail to notice when their friendly run turned into a race. Maybe it was that look in Ignatius' eye when he looked over his shoulder to see Arrakis closing a bit of the distance, or maybe it was the sudden burst of speed, but the reaper caught immediately when the other suddenly surged ahead--no pun intended, of course--into an actual full run.

Well.

He couldn't let Ignatius have all the fun, could he?

So Arrakis put on a burst of speed, himself, and tried to at least keep Ignatius within a reasonable distance. His lungs and legs had started to burn, and he wasn't sure how much energy he had compared to what Ignatius obviously had in spades.

Then Ignatius stopped and declared himself the winner, considerably less out of breath than Arrakis had perhaps been hoping for. He wasn't that far ahead, luckily, so Arrakis was back with him in short order. ...Considerably more out of breath than Arrakis had perhaps been hoping for. He was bent over, panting and laughing with one hand on his knee and the other giving Ignatius a thumbs-up. Had he signed up for a race? No, but it had been fun, and he'd liked the challenge. Well, as much challenge as it had been, considering he knew good and well he hadn't stood a chance.

"Congratulations. Maybe one-" he was cut off by a bell tolling on his phone, and he dug it out of his pocket. "Oh! Gotta go!" There was no second or third wind waiting for him, just a stitch in his side, but he couldn't afford to be late, so he shut the alarm off and started to head out. There was a slight limp in his step as his muscles cooled down, but he'd be alright, and he found himself trying to disguise it anyway. Out of pride, embarrassment, or both, or something else, he wasn't sure. "We'll need to do this again sometime!" It slipped out of his mouth as he left, and he would reflect later with some more embarrassment that it had been awfully presumptuous of him to assume that Ignatius would want to race him again.

Well. He'd worry about that some other time. For now, he was just glad to have made a friend.
