The trip had started as a casual trip to gather herbs and find new growth. The wet earth made it easier to find bulbs and seeds, and cleanly pull out fresh growth for replanting. Mushrooms, as well were plentiful, the scattered rains of early spring calling the caps from their hiding places. She had run out of her spring herbs a good while ago. and was looking forward to the new spring. As the warmer weather and rains were ideal for most of her favorite scented herbs and plants, returning anew from their sleep. Winter was a difficult season for the blind mare- who relied upon the scent of plants to orient herself. The sterile landscape of winter even bleaker for the mare, unable to see the beauty of snow and the clear winter skies.

The storm had come suddenly- the pleasant light rain quickly turning to a heavy downpour with the distant rumble of thunder coming off the horizon. The energy of the land starting to take on a foreboding heavy notes of a large storm. The scent on the heavy wet air was that of a large storm thunder meant lightning, and fire. She heard (or imagined) the sound of crackling fire. The fear of fire was an early terror instilled at the memory of the heat of great flames that claimed an home. The skittish young mare dropping her half full basket and fleeing.

She tore through the leafless underbrush at a full gallop. Fleeing the sound of cracks of lighting and thunder behind her. Her blind eyes remaining open, their milky gaze fixed forward as her soaked florescent mane whipped along her neck. Breath coming out in great clouds on the lingering cold of winter. Gusts and unpredictable cross breezes heralding the strong headwinds that were to come.

Tree roots were everywhere, causing the mare to trip up and fall, only to be up again in moments, blind terror driving her forward until the accrued bruises made full gallop too painful. Slowed by the soothing sound of quick running water, serving to replace the crackle of imaginary flames. At this point- she stopped and flared her nostrils while exhaling a warm breath into the cold air of of the changing seasons. Smelling familiar shoreline plants, wet dirt and the dust free fresh air of the storm. Finding a maple tree by it's bitter scent, finding temporary shelter within the grove of trees. Taking comfort in the odor of the maples' crushed twigs, pressing her nose into a pile of sticks, their strong scents overcoming the chaos about her.

...This way, she stayed, slowing shakes and heavy breathing, returning again with each new crack of lightning and the approaching rumble of the storm. The blind mare was lost. Terror amplified through the groans, cracking and scream of the trees and destruction and death of her beloved plants in the growing winds. the larger world about her turning to swirling scents of chaos as the headwinds began to hit.

This is a backset RP from before Obelus was a walker or Astrea lost her memory. It is intended as a set up for a future RP post these character changing events.

setting:
RP is set in a heavy storm in early spring- For now it's uncomfortable, although there is a foreboding heavy feeling of the quick moving storm on the horizon. but safe to be without cover- but as wind speeds grow- and risk of downed trees and flooding increases, high ground and shelter will have to be found soon.
x

this is early stages of the first severe storm of the season-

Everyone had family issues, at least she thought they did, though for the most part her family was quite well mannered and there wasn't much one did to make them frown upon you. However, sometimes the rules and manners were just so much for her sometimes. She understood that growing up like she did, being an heiress to her family, that she had certain responsibilities but sometimes it was just too much. Astraea was taking a break from her family, not that she really needed it today and was honestly just out to clear his head. Her brother was always so protective of her sometimes and it was good, but sometimes it seemed too much for her. She was completely capable of taking care of herself, though today she felt like he should be here. The day was starting out rather nice, despite the coolness and the light rain. She actually preferred light showers and they made her feel clean and free in a way. However it suddenly turned into something else and this wasn't something she was going to be able to fly in. And her brother was no where in sight.

As the winds began to hit she began to worry. The way the winds began to make the trees crackle and then the clash of thunder and flash of lightning she started to dance uncomfortably. She needed to find shelter, or at least somewhere that wasn't so open. The way the rain began to suddenly crash down against her frame seemed to meld her wings to her frame and she kept them tucked tight for fear of them being ripped away from her. She took off as fast she could against the winds looking for anything.

Ears listened and eyes looked as the winds pushed against her, almost making her fall over once or twice as she proceeded to force herself onward. She kept her head low to the ground as she moved to keep the wind from pressing against her chest. She finally came upon a grove, one that wasn't too large, but seemed to be sturdy enough for now what she was looking for. She finally found some relieve among the thick trunks but it appeared she wasn't the only one. She gazed at the mare, as she seemed to be panicking, as the mare moved with each crack she finally caught sight of her eyes and realized that she was blind.

She didn't want to startle her, but she could tell she was already frightened, but they would have to get somewhere else soon. She raised her voice to overcome the sound of the wind and hopefully not scare her too much. "EXCUSE ME! WE NEED TO FIND SOMEWHERE SAFE TO GO. I PROMISE I WON'T HURT YOU" She said hoping the mare would allow her to help her. She heard the sound of the branches cracking from above and she moved forward and pushed into the mare, not to hurt her, but to move her as some branches came crashing down. "WE NEED TO MOVE NOW" She said as she pushed the mare with her own body, hoping that she would allow her to guide her to safer grounds. She really didn't want anything to happen to this mare that she had just stumbled upon.

No worries. ^^ At least it can still be development for your character and mine. Sorry that it can't be accepted as a "backlog" development for her.

A concerned voice calling over the rising wind followed by a bump as a large branch landed where she had been huddled. Feeling dual sets of wings tucked tight against a light form. Thinking as she did so: I can't see and my helper has to worry about two sets of wings- a fine pair we make in this storm. She didn't speak but nodded emphatically, taking the lead of the winged stranger. The realization that she was not far from home but completely lost scared her. She knew the river ran to the cliffs where it dropped off in a waterfall, a passing thought of ...A very bad place to be right now and upriver lead to a small mountain of stunted brush and caves. Crying against the wind CAVES UP RIVER... Should be safe! a rolling boom met by a sharp crack causing her to jump.
The storm had the blind mare worried. At least she had a set of eyes by proxy to get her out of this alive, the stranger had shown concern for her wellbeing, which was lucky. A walker would've left her body to wash off the waterfalls down river. Regardless, in good weather a winged associate would go a long way.

*shrug* might not be official cannon, but will help a great deal in me figuring out why she is how she is.

She listened carefully to the mare as she shouted to her over the wind. Some caves? She couldn't see any caves right now, but she could hear the river so she pressed against the mare guiding her along with her. She kept a wing over the blind mares face to help shield her from flying debris and Astraea kept her head bent slightly and kept a close eye for any caves that might appear. When a rolling boom and a crack of lightning caused the mare beside her to jump she was almost concerned she might bolt, but the mare held fast and this was a little bit of a relief.

"I'M NOT SEEING THE CAVES." She said loudly over the sound of the wind. She could see the river, and a lot of washed out areas, but not caves. Perhaps they would have to go somewhere else. She knew there was an alcove nearby that she had passed not too long ago. Perhaps they could go there instead if she didn't see the caves soon. "I KNOW THIS IS AN AWKWARD TIME, BUT I'M ASTRAEA." She said to her as she continued to look for the mares caves.

If the stranger had meant aspen any harm by now- she would have acted, unless she was leading her somewhere dry to do so in comfort. Though than... be easier to blame it on the storm- or from the very start just watch the branch fall and laugh at the weak thing unable to fend for itself...
Where was willow? she worried for her sister, she was not meant to be tested this storm. It was to be her fathers, and his alone. now- she was sure to be risking herself... perhaps if she listened for the quickest part of the river she could push the stranger in and flee before they could hurt her...

Aspen broke the loop of dark thoughts.
...The stranger had done none of these things, a wing was wrapped around her and she was felt safe, protected. This wasn't her first storm, but the first to she had to rely on a stranger for.
A long pause followed until Aspen responded, shaking her head strongly and responding in short bursts of shouted speech "… I’m Aspen! … caves might be flooded?!... Ideas?! Did you pass any others? The last statement spoken slightly lower with an expectant tone.

sorry this took forever to reply to

She hadn't recalled seeing anyone else in the way here and she shook her head, "No, I didn't." She said as loud as she could given the sound of the storm. Maybe they were flooded?

"We might have to head somewhere else, I'm not locating them." She shouted with a frown. She hoped the mares friends were okay.
