The snow had melted, the days were warming up, and Virens Vite was excited to get back to work. She woke up just as the sun was rising, leaving all of her friends still fast asleep at home, and headed to a clearing not too far away. This was her designated gardening spot every year. It was a small space, but it allowed for a lot of sunlight and was bordered by a stream on one side.

She fluttered around the empty clearing, digging her paws into the soil. Virens started drawing shallow lines in the dirt to mark off the garden's perimeter. Within the square space, the topsoil was course and covered in weeds. To soften the soil, Virens brought water over from the stream and let it wash over the ground. Then she got to work weeding the garden and digging up the dirt until to expose the lower, more nutritious layers of soil.

Any other fox might find the work slow and tedious, but Virens loved it. It was just a little lonely, if anything. The friends that she lived with would stop by occasionally and help out, but she could tell it was more for the sake of helping her out. They each had their own passions, and gardening was hers.

Virens had been doing this for years now. Every Spring she'd bring the seeds of different flowers and tend to them until Winter came again. Some of them would remain the entire year, others were replaced as the weather grew hotter a few months later. Virens hummed while she worked and mentally planned out the layout of her garden in the meantime.

User ImageSeverus was enjoying a stroll through the woods. It was a lovely morning, the temperature rising as the seasons began their slow change, heralded by the delicate sprigs of emerald green and the increasing variety of bird song. It was still just cool enough that the shafts of sunlight reaching through the thin branches and delicate buds of new growth felt pleasant against his back, though as the day progressed Severus had a feeling that the shade from those same branches and buds would be equally welcomed.

He wasn't particularly paying attention to where he was going, just wandering for the pure pleasure of it. The soft sounds of babbling water broke through his drifting thoughts and observations of the land around him. He'd been walking long enough now that a drink would be quite pleasant. He paused, ears twitching and sniffing at the air while he tried to pinpoint the source of the sound, then continued forward.

The morning was so peaceful. There were only birds and the occasional rodent scuttling about, beginning the search for food. Severus' thoughts were so unfocused that he almost missed the little Pixie entirely. It was the soft humming that jolted him back, so different from the sound of the birds yet so a part of the surroundings that it took a second to work through his brain. He paused and listened, then proceeded to carefully walk forward. Ahead of him, past a screening of bushes and vines clustered around a tree, was the stream he had been following. He could see the ground appeared rather open, perhaps a small clearing of space where a tree had fallen and none had risen to take the spot? In that space, fluttering around and digging at the ground, was a Pixie fox.

Severus stared for a while, just watching her. He'd never seen a Pixie before. She was a pretty thing, all silvers and greens of such pale shades that she looked like a wisp of mist. He watched her for a time, just interested in her movements and her lovely little song. Eventually he realized she was clearing away space on the ground, pulled up stubborn clumps of greenery and spreading water here and there. He wasn't really sure why, but she seemed intent on her work. Knowing his appearance could be startling to those who weren't used to glowing eyes, not to mention having a stranger just appear when you were in your own special place, he slowly began to back away. He had seen the stream and knew which direction it was flowing. He could probably find it after he backtracked a bit.

Wasn't sure how you wanted the format to go for this, so I tried to leave my post open for a variety of outcomes. We can have Sev notice Virens and be fascinated by her and come back to watch her several times before they actually meet, so lots of time-skip posts describing the making of the garden and its growth until we reach a point where Sev has to come out for some reason or Virens finally catches on. We can have Virens notice Sev right now if you want, maybe she pauses in her work to rest a bit and is able to hear the soft sounds he makes as he tries to back away unnoticed or catches a hint of a glow from his eye. Or something can happen now that gives Virens trouble and she comments on it aloud, like a giant rock stuck in the ground or a dead limb from one of the surrounding trees falling into her garden area or something, and Sev hears this before he goes too far and comes back to see what's wrong.

I really like the first option, sooo time skip one! Sidenote, I know nothing about how gardens or flowers work so if something logistically makes no sense... that's because it probably doesn't and I'm sorry XP

It took a day and a half's worth of work for Virens Vite to fully clear out the area of her to-be garden. After de-weeding it, she dug rows into the soil and left it at that for the day. Over the few days, Virens didn't return to her little plot of land. Instead she traveled to nearby fields and plains where wildflowers grew. There weren't too many fully bloomed flowers out there yet, but Virens did get lucky in a few of the warmer areas. She was collecting seeds. Virens still had seeds stored at home from last year's flowers, but each season she liked to go out and find new ones to grow, mixing them in with the old.

A week later Virens Vite returned with her seeds. She had successfully recruited her friend Lux Aeterna to help her plant for the day. They split the seeds between them, mixing them up so they no longer knew which flowers would grow where, and started dropping them into the garden's rows of soil. With help, it took no time at all. Virens and Lux chatted happily as they covered up the seeds and watered them.

Virens returned by herself every day for the next week and a half. She would spend a good amount of time there, watering and occasionally weeding the garden. When there was nothing to do, she often liked to lounge in the sun between her garden and the stream. The weather, for the moment, was perfect. Still, none of the seeds had sprouted yet, but Virens was patient.
