Jason's movements were slow, lethargic even, the hunter struggling to muster any energy to function normally. Everything felt strange, his reality having been turned upside down within a matter of weeks. He didn't know how to react.

People looked at him. Asked him how. Why. Why did you do that. Some asked him if he was okay. Others were angry, demanding how he could be so stupid.

He honesty had no answer. He didn't want to give them a reason. What could he possible say? Could he be justified in his actions? These were questions he didn't want to answer right now. He was just tired, lonely without the support of his weapon to comfort him. Anxiety over his loved ones and how they had or would react to the news.

It was only a few days out of the infirmary that he was required to do haunted house duty. He was given a set of runics to supplement his lack of weapon, and told to find someone to partner up with. No one wanted to see him by himself.

This was fine, he didn't want to argue. He didn't want to be by himself anyway.

He sought out a death hunter. He didn't know Wilson that well, but he didn't want to ask anyone close to him. There was so much he needed to do and to say that to ask anyone for something seemed wrong. A hunter who didn't know him well was a good option.

They entered the portal, the feeling of FEAR in the air weighing more heavily on Jason then he ever recalled. That was right, there was no Zanthvos to protect him.

Quietly he walks beside Wilson, unable to strike up a conversation, words coming to him slow and awkward, as if he wasn't sure how to speak anymore.

He was unfamiliar to the details regarding Jason’s status. All the hunter knew was that the other man required a chaperone of sorts to perform certain duties, and by accompanying Jason he could complete his own quota of regular duties. Wilson supposed this could be hitting two birds with one stone.

Jason moved slowly, like a man walking in a perpetual daze that almost worried the death hunter. But he answered his short inquiries just fine; there seemed to be nothing too abnormal about him, no maladies from what he could observe. Wilson himself wasn’t in the best of moods, but he’d been feeling down for a while now, which he preferred to blame on the gloomy, seasonal weather. Perhaps once spring and warmth finally broke through the fog he would feel more energetic.

But for now, he silently followed behind and through the portal.

Out of all the supernatural forces at play in this peculiar world, FEAR was the most familiar. Compared to the blind chaos of Insanity or the twist-your-stomach uneasiness of Distortion and whatever else he’d encountered his entire life, feeling the FEAR swirl around him almost like smoke or fog was normal. Perhaps comforting if he had to compare it to the rest.

The FEAR wrapped around both hunters like the awkward silence between them. It was simultaneously heavy and thin—thin because he could care less at the moment, but heavy because commonsense told him this was clumsy and messy and he really should start some conversation.

“It’d be nice if we don’t encounter anything today.”

Yuki didn't exactly like coming here, the atmosphere making him anxious and uneasy, to say nothing of things he'd actually experienced in its walls. However, it was the most quiet, private place he had found to get himself away for a while. When he wanted to think about something, or even when he wanted to think about nothing at all.

He wasn't about to go for his late-night walks in the forest anymore.

That thought surfaced, and the ghost's hand went to his chest, over the demon mark there beneath his shirt. It hadn't caused him pain - no, it was everything that happened before he woke with that mark - but he knew that it could if she wanted it to. Deacon had educated him on that, making Yuki wonder if the bakeneko 'requested' him solely to make him feel his second given mark flare up along his spine.

Deacon wouldn't come here. He was afraid of this place. Yuki could understand why he would feel that way. It was too similar to it's inversion, and reminded him of Insanity and when the disease took over his mind.

He hadn't wanted to think about either of them, but here he was and it made him all the more unhappy. Maybe he should just go back to his dorm and hope he could sleep.

"It'd be nice if we don't encounter anything today."

The unfamiliar voice made him curious, and instead of finding his way out Yuki instead search for the source. Had he the gift of proper forethought, he might have realized that he was ignoring any sense of self preservation again.

At first it didn't seem like Jason had even heard Wilson speak, too busy staring at nothing and wanting to just go back and away from the scary house. But eventually his brain caught up and he looked the death hunters way. "Y-yeah...it-'ll be great." He brushed the back of his head awkwardly and looked the other way. "I d-don't w-want to see any h-horsemen here."

He rounded a corner, boots steeping on the broken wood underneath him and making enough noise to alert all four clans. "...Damn..." He stared at the half eaten floorboards, as if they were the source of all his woes. With a heavy sigh and sagging shoulders, the moon hunter lifted his foot off the debris and shuffled forwards, his mind fretting over how he couldn't even defend himself. Something was going to jump out at him now he just knew it.

As if he sensed something was preparing to get him, Jason looked over his shoulder, walking backwards to make sure nothing could sneak up behind him, even pulling out the runics to put up a measly defense.

He was so focus on looking for any dangers, that as he backed around a corner he felt something cold brush up against his coat-

"AIYE!" He screamed like a little girl, arms thrown up and accidentally letting the runics fly off into random directions. Only when he turned to see whom he had bumped into did he calm down. "O-h...H-hi Yuki..." He tried to muster up a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes, and soon faded back into a tired frown. Instead now he just felt like a fool for screaming.

"O-oh. D-don't hurt him." He turned to Wilson. "H-he's non hostile." Although even if the hunter did try to do anything Jason couldn't stop him. He was currently useless.

In his younger days, the mention of horsemen might have startled him to his senses—brought him to strict attention as if Caelius had suddenly swept into the room with his usual scowls and caustic remarks, but now Wilson moved without so much as a tremble to his steps. They were a common occurrence, far too common for the man to muster anxiety and woes before even encountering one. “It’s fine. I’ll make sure we make it through.” As the elder of the two in many respects, Wilson felt a smidge more responsible than he normally would have.

Eyes squinted suspiciously as there was a loud crack of wood. He looked around normally to find Jason with one foot sinking into the floor. His thin lips pulled into a wry smirk. “Yeah, that happens.” Wilson kept himself at ease, leaning on the back of one foot with his arms folded over his chest as he waited patiently for the hunter to regain his bearings when the shadow of a third, unknown figure slid into view.

Hands were already gripped on the handles of his weapon when Jason shrieked—causing Wilson to wince.

“Oh.” What had been his defensive stance moved into something more relaxed, but hands were still gripped on his weapon as he began to skeptically look at Yuki. For better or worse, Wilson had grown soft toward the Halloween creatures, but deep in his thoughts he knew it was wrong. Yet, there was no undoing the tangled ball of string that was his emotional heart.

More suspicious eyeing. “Okay.”
