Ya gotta know that trouble is coming when the rich and wealthy are hunkering down..

They have informants and connections that the less fortunate can only chatter about with no clear insight. emotion_8c

This is what people don't understand: no amount of money, no amount of fortification of a citadel—no matter where it is built: high in the mountains or deep beneath the earth—can stop YHWH's divine justice from reaching you. So if you're in sin, then repent, stay off the crooked paths or He will send judgments on you no matter where you hide. Your sin will find you out.

      • Proverbs 11:4 (NIV)

4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,
            but righteousness delivers from death.

      • Proverbs 19:16 (NIV)

16 Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life,
but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.

      • Amos 5:19 (NIV)

19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion
            only to meet a bear,
as though he entered his house
and rested his hand on the wall
only to have a snake bite him.

      • Obadiah 3-4 (NIV)

3 The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks[a]
and make your home on the heights,
        you who say to yourself,
‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
4 Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,”
                declares the Lord.

        Footnotes:

        a. Obadiah 1:3 Or of Sela

      • Revelation 6:15-16 (NIV)

15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us[a] from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

        Footnotes:

        a. Revelation 6:16 See Hosea 10:8.

When you're on God's bad side, then no amount of money can save you and no geographical location (no matter how "well-fortified" it is) is safe.

But by that same token, even if one claims to be a believer (and genuinely is, because they were delivered from their sin in the past thanks to Jesus), but goes back to their sin, thinking that just because they know certain information now, they'll be fine if they engage in the sin again, then they're in the same category, if not worse (because now they know better, but they have deceived themselves into thinking that they're not sinning as long as they know the instructions; ergo, have been duped into a false kind of assurance, like Eve was, amongst other examples in Scripture)...

      • Amos 9:10 (NIV)

10 All the sinners among my people
            will die by the sword,
        all those who say,
‘Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’

      • 1 Peter 4:18 (NIV)

        18 And,

“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”[a]

        Footnotes:

        a. 1 Peter 4:18 Prov. 11:31 (see Septuagint)

      • Proverbs 11:31 (NIV)

31 If the righteous receive their due on earth,
how much more the ungodly and the sinner!

      • Deuteronomy 29:19 (NIV)

19 When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,” they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.

      • Acts 3:26 (NIV)

26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

      • 1 John 3:7 (NIV)

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

      • Ecclesiastes 8:5 (NIV)

5 Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.

      • 2 Peter 2:20-22 (NIV)

20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”[a] and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

        Footnotes:

        a. 2 Peter 2:22 Prov. 26:11

---

So, in a nutshell: people who think their bunker or money is what will keep them safe from God's judgments are in for a rude awakening. But so are the believers who rely on a label and on mentally knowing what's right, instead of their changed being (thoughts, speech, and action) and doing what they know to be right. So, to both/everyone:

      • James 1:21-22 (NIV)

21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
