User ImageAmeliah - Journeyman Miner
Specializes in Firestone and Explosives

Ameliah is a miner by blood and loves her craft almost as much as she loves her dragon. She's had an internal conflict since Impressing, trying to balance her profession with the demands of a goldrider. Being a goldrider has its perks but she often finds people are more interested in the colour of her dragon hide than her personality. It's jaded her a little. She also believe in treating people equally and respectfully regardless of colour or rank... and that same gold worship meant she turned her back on High Reaches Weyr to forge her own path in the greater world.

Current Plots
  • Ameliah & Sharath are beginning a friendship/romance arc with K'lar/Mnereth (Tsunake)
  • Ameliah & Sharath are beginning a redemption arc with High Reaches (eventually, possibly, returning) - with Masterharper+

Plot Requests & Notes:
  • Now that thread has begun falling again and the demand for firestone skyrocketing, Ameliah is busier than ever. I'd enjoy encounters with both affiliated and non-affiliated riders and non-riders who have experienced Threadfall and are trying to purchase firestone. Ameliah travels everywhere and thus can meet anyone most anywhere.

  • I would love if Ameliah had encounters with the sort of folk she turned her back on, the sort who heard about the goldrider who abandonned her Weyr to strike out on her own. That sort of infamy would be interesting.

  • Ameliah is a scrapper as well and not afraid of a fist fight, so if you're looking spark her temper and start a tustle with someone... and have that someone likely never forget your sleight, she may be a good opportunity.

  • Someone that seems like a gold digger at first but who is actually, genuinely interested in her as a person would be a fun arc. Ameliah is 75% conditioned to expect people to see gold before miner and as such is a little cold and selfish. Getting past those barriers would be interesting.

  • Open to suggestions.

Sharath is ambitious, jealous, haughty, enduring, loyal, and proud. She expects to be treated with respect but very much gives that respect in turn - except if you're another gold that is! She enjoys the company of non-golds and forms fast friendships with them, going so far as to be a guardian if necessary. She'll pick fights and stand proud, and her ambitious leads her to dream of her own territory or Weyr. She currently treats Nabol like it belongs to her but everyone knows it's an illusion of grandeur, some indulge her and others don't.

Sharath's Clutch Timeline - Reference
Hatched 3561.10.02 at High Reaches Weyr

Clutch 1: 3562.11.24 - High Reaches Weyr - Maiden Flight [Caught by Bronze Randoth]
Clutch 2: 3564.10.05 - Nabol [Caught by Brown Efraath]
Clutch 3: 3567.03.08 - Monaco Weyrhold [Caught by Brown Nessuth]
Clutch 4: 3570.11.11 - Western Weyr [Caught by Brown Licerth]
Clutch 5: 3572.05.10 - Western Weyr [Caught by Bronze Niyath]

Plot Requests & Notes:
  • Sharath clutched at Nabol in 3564 in a failed attempt to start her own Weyr. This would have likely not gone over well with most established riders/weyrfolk. It was a small clutch, sired by Brown Efraath (ShinosBee) and was likely quite the oddball affair. I am not opposed to having RPs with people who heard of the ambitious gold with the risky clutch or with people who impressed from the clutch!

  • I want some gold interaction with Sharath. She doesn't get along with other queens very well because she is so ambitious and jealous. Learning how to handle herself around other leaders will be important in her character development. If you're not opposed to arguments and possibly posturing/dominance fights, that's also a plus.

  • Sharath loves all of the non-golds as she doesn't see them as a threat so friendship and those who might be able to gradually teach her what a leader actually is would be wonderful.

  • Gold diggers/hangers-on etc are welcome to interact as well, but be warned they were among the reasons Sharath and Ameliah left High Reaches Weyr in the first place.

  • I would love for some dragon or person to catch her enough that a deep friendship formed. I don't script romances but I'm also not opposed to them!

  • Also looking to fill in the "Caught by ???" gaps in her history and I'm curious to see what dragons were in her clutches!

    Name: Amelia
    Age: 32
    Sex: Female
    Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
    Weyr: Other
    Rider Rank: N/A
    Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Miner
    Physical Description:
With black hair, dark eyes, and naturally pale skin, she would have been a dark beauty had her life taken her over different paths. As it is, her face is almost always smudged with grit of some sort, her hair is pulled up into a messy bun and she nearly always wears coveralls for their practicality when excavating. Comfortable with shovel, pick, or explosive charge, she has a sort of unconsciously proud and confident posture about her. Quick to smile and unafraid to get dirty, it’s a rare sight to see her without some hint of her craft upon her person. Wearing minimal jewelry, Amelia’s sole fancy item is a necklace of a soaring dragon her family commissioned for her when she gained the journeyman rank.

Her body type is athletic and muscular due to her work. She is not petite by any interpretation of the word - standing nearly six feet tall (5’9”), she can almost look her father in the eye without trouble and shoulders tools as well as any other life long miner. That’s not to say she does not have feminine charms – well proportioned and well endowed, Amelia’s charm would shine through if she took the time to dress up.. which she rarely does.

    Personality:
Proud, bold, and confident, Amelia isn’t afraid of lending a hand. Proud of her family and her craft, she’ll often spend hours simply exploring the tunnels they’re in the process of building, memorizing the twists and turns even as she learns about the techniques and tools used in excavation. Easy going and inclined to laugh, she has no qualms about chatting with fellow miners or weyrfolk alike – though weyrfolk, and riders, tend to pass her by. She usually shrugs the lack of attention off easily, confident enough in herself to know that it’s not a personal sleight. She's not one to flout her goldrider status and can become quite embarassed if people insist on deferring to her, but over the years her dragon has changed her and that embarassment is easier hide now. She is never certain if people see her for her or if the hide of her dragon is what weighs most in their decisions.

While she is not afraid of closed or small spaces, Amelia does enjoy the openness of the plains and the structure of Weyrs. She does not, however, know how to swim and tends to avoid lakes and oceans on principle. Strong and intelligent, she is well suited to her craft and sometimes surprises people with her quick wit and strong understanding of numbers. Secretly, she sometimes enjoys that reaction and believes she’s made an impression upon the person she’s surprised. Eager to learn, to do, and to inform she can be found teaching the apprentices a thing or two when she is not involved in training or work of her own. With a dragon in tow, she is hardly ever seen without Sharath and spends a great deal of time taking care of the vainglorious gold.

Over the years, the assertive, passionate, ambitious nature of Sharath has creeped into Amelia's personality. She expects respect and tolerates very little fundamental disrespect. It's gotten her into a few fights over the years and she has a few scars to prove it. Amelia is a fiesty, athletic, confident woman whose interest lies first in the survival and care of her dragon. Her second priority aligns with her passion and is aiding in the supply of the Weyrs now that Thread falls again – she knows as a queenrider she wouldn't fight to begin with and is quite comfortable, and content, to remain devoted to her craft.

On a final note, Amelia has a temper. It is slow to ignite but when she is angry she will fume and yell and argue until her temper has run itself out if she doesn't outright take a swing. Be warned, however, if she believes herself truly wronged she can and does hold long-lasting grudges. In a fit of temper she will fling hurtful, pointed things but when holding a grudge she can be very cold – to the point of being disrespectful and ignoring the person as if they don’t exist. Also vindictive to a point, Amelia is not above seeing someone get their ‘just deserts’. She also tends not to back down from a fight and can be particularly stubborn in that respect. Whether defending friends or her honour, she’ll do her best to face down whatever opponent it is. She can take a decent beating and keep standing, but most know better than to risk the ire of rider and queen – Sharath has been known to pin humans down until they listen.

Positive Trait List Confident, Inquisitive, Congenial

Negative Trait List Proud, Selfish, and Begrudging

    History:
Born into a family that called the High Reaches Weyr home, her parents were both involved in minecraft. Her mother was a geologist while he father was an excavator. From an early age she has been exposed to dragons, riders, explosives and more dirt and rock then an average person would likely consider healthy. Her friends came from the weyr and the craft halls alike and most barely mentioned the work of her family. It bothered her and helped sew the seeds of a strong will and a deep-seated pride in the craft that ran in her blood.

When she was able to, Amelia joined the minecraft hall as an apprentice and quickly gained the title of journeyman a little earlier than most having benefited from the knowledge and mentorship of not only the other miners but her parents as well. Amelia found she rather enjoyed the labourious work of an excavator - the blunt humour and honest work that would eventually result in countless feet passing through the tunnels she and her father bore through the rock – but she had an eye for ores and gemstones that has been honed over the years. Now, she specializes in explosives and firestone, trading in the substances and headquartered in Nabol.

Her impression was something of interest... a Turn had passed since her gaining the title of journeyman and her rough-and-tumble attitude has drawn her out of the lower caverns for longer periods of time. There was activity in the main areas of the weyr and curiosity has called her to investigate. It was easy enough to learn of the new clutch and the queen’s egg - a hatching she intended to watch. Among the chaos of fighting dragonets, injured candidates, and a circus of a hatching, the newly hatchedgold eventually addressed those at the Hatching and declared Amelia her chosen one, summoning her from the stands into the Sands.

Amelia, amazed at the Impression, spent some time adjusting to the demands of her fiery young partner and finding outlets for the nearly unassailable ambition and confidence of Sharath. They argued almost as much as they laughed and it wasn't long before Sharath's ambitions and Amelia's love of the craft drew them away from the Weyr and into the wider world.

Amelia continued her studies while Sharath made several failed attempts to start a gathering of dragons herself. Sharath is commanding but she lacked leadership skills as a youth... and over time, that haughtiness has cooled into a tempered, powerful presence that is hard to ignore even if the skill isn't neccessarily sharp.

Many fights, between the two and between others later, their travels brought them to Nabol and the mines and the firestones that Amelia so loved. The town is corrupt, something Amelia finds distasteful, but she's been able to work out a few deals here and there that exchange her expertise and goldrider status for discounts on goods she then exports to the Weyrs and other customers.

Sharath adores the chance to throw her power around and sharpen her leadership, or manipulation, skills so it's a win-win situation even if it is a shady situation. Amelia tries to live a moderate life in or around Nabol but it can be difficult caught between the prestige of a gold and the drudgery of a miner. Thankfully Sharath also loves assisting her rider and makes a very effective beast of burden when transporting large shipments of goods.

Other: I would not be opposed to Sharath being summoned back to HRW now that thread is falling. They'd have to reconcile ambition with structure.

    DRAGON
    Name: Sharath
    Age: 13
    Color: Gold
    Size: 42'
Physical Description: Sharath is on the small side for a gold but is well proportioned and her subtle hide pattern almost makes it seem like she's constantly glistening... if she wasn't also soiled by dirt and rock dust on a regular basis. If she had been bonded to any other person, perhaps her physique would have been more petite... but her years of helping dig, and haul, and lift, and move heavy rock stuffs has made this gold buff and she likes it that way – it's easier to intimidate if it looks like you'll win the fight. Wings are broad and wide, giving her good lifting strength for aerial support and long Flights.
    Personality:
Sharath is one passionate gold. Her infinite ambition means she'll never fall short of incentive to keep going, come what may. Ever assured she's one step ahead of her associates at all times (including her rider), it would take the most overwhelming problem possible to make her hesitant. To leave her speechless, you'll need something no less than devastating. Negative commentary would never influence her; not at this age. She never forgets her status and she refuses to overlook it.

Sharath also forgets a queen without content followers isn't much of a queen at all. If someone disagrees with her, she's outraged they would dare. She'll throw a fit over the matter and accuse them of going against her out of jealousy. In Sharath's world, being gold makes you right. Opinions that don't line up with hers she undermines without realizing she's doing it. What do you mean you don't think the exact same way she does? You, madam, are ridiculous! Greatness will only bless Sharath if she learns it takes a queen to lead a Weyr, but many dragons to build one. Else she meet with disaster. Her rider can help her with this, but it won't be an overnight ordeal.

The sooner this problem is addressed the better. Sharath gets what Sharath wants, and Sharath wants her own Weyr. She doesn't care if it's High Reaches or not; she'll be glad to move or even establish a brand new place all together if need be. The idea of failing doesn't frighten her into behaving more courteously, because as far as she's concerned, failure is not an option. She's willing to risk anything and do anything to make her dream a reality, and she expects her rider to be happy going along for the ride. After all, Sharath is so loyal and would not let any living soul utter a single bad word about Hers. She will even speak directly to another rider if she feels they're insulting her own. Who, don't forget, is a goldrider.

Everyone is a hypocrite. Yes, Sharah, even you. This gold has no problem insulting other queens or their riders out of spite. Taking orders from the Weyrwoman's dragon (and having other dragons take her orders over Sharath's) annoys her something fierce. The older she gets, the more diligent her rider will need to be. This is a larger than life dragon who needs to be kept under control or both this pair will face serious consequences. Not much of the population will think far enough into her trouble-making to realize Sharath's bitterness toward her fellow gold is no more than a feeble attempt to compensate for her small size.

She will be more than ready to rise by time she's old enough, but only under the condition the male she deemed worthy to catch her does so. She takes flight with one dragon in mind and one dragon only. Her opinion will not be swayed by anyone, not even her rider. The dragon she's partial to may be a bronze or a brown. Sharath is not picky about colors as long as everyone knows she's the most important one. In fact, her best friend (other than Hers, of course), is Green Redfith.

Sharath is able to separate the actions of rider and dragon, recognizing they are individuals rather then viewing them as an equally responsible unit. As such, one of the two may offend her but she will not lash out at both – only the one she considers offensive. She’s not easy to get along with but as long as one remembers their place, she seems content to be ‘pleasant’ enough.

    Original character journal

Note: I noticed that there's no gold born in the year 3560 in the clutch timelines but that one was born in 3561 for High Reaches Weyr. If it works better that Sharath is 12 (and thus born in 3561), I'd like to slot her in there and say she left High Reaches.

User ImageG'er - High Reaches - Tsunami Wingleader
Specializes in Leadership and Social Accountability

G'er is a textbook bronzerider sans a bit of the arrogance. He's more of the motherhen sort and truly appreciates cooperation and teamwork. He had a good eye for social dynamics, taking time to uplift those that seem a little lost or ignored, especially if they're a non-metallic rider. He has great respect for his station but runs a fine line between the tradition of HIgh Reaches and his personal code of ethics. He is proud to call a woman brownrider his second and is extremely loyal to his wing. G'er considers his wing a family of sorts and will wine, dine, play, and drill them with equal intensity.

    Plot Requests & Notes:
    • Wingrider RPs - if you have someone in Tsunami Wing, I'd love to play with you.

    • Some sort of off-duty dare/bet he gets cajoled into and it goes sideways, with them having to figure out a solution.

    • Open to thoughts!

Suave, charismatic, and into the boys AND girls, Ironith enjoys collecting smaller dragons beneath his wings and generally revelling in the beauty of life. He enjoys a good dare or bet, especially if it involves some sort personal improvement.

    Approved Profile
    Name: G'er
    Age: 25
    Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual, preferential to males
    Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
    Rider Rank: Wingleader
    Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Farmer
    Physical Description:
G'er is exceptionally tall for a human, standing around 6'5” with broad shoulders and a strong back, he looks every bit the farmer's son. He's pretty average is appearance, save for eyes that are deep jade green and the severely slicked back ginger helmet of hair. It is a more formal or dry style than he would like but his hair has only two modes: crazy mop of hair or slicked back judge hair. He also has a mess of freckles all over his body from his time spent in the sun.

His clothing tends to be more function over form, but they're well made and well maintained. G'er takes pains to appreciate the gifts and luxuries his life has afforded him. His personal belongings, including what little bits of jewelery he owns are simple but high quality.

    Personality:
G'er is the sort to draw a definitive line between work and pleasure. When acting in a professional capacity, he is formal, courteous, and exacting. He believes very strongly in hard work, practice, and comraderie. His own social network has helped him get through some of the rougher patches of his life and he expects his wing to echo this tight-knit brother and sisterhood. He will tolerate disturbances only so long as they don't cause strife within his work and, once you're off for the day, he's more than happy to do drinking.

He doesn't buy into the whole bronze makes right mentality of the Weyr but he's extremely good at utilizing that bias. Keenly aware of the expectations and power of not only a bronzerider but a Wingleader, G'er utilizes his position to champion certain causes for non-bronzes and leverage the experience or advice he's garnered from his wingmates. That's not to say he doesn't expect everyone to live up to the ideal bronzerider – it's what he personally strives for – and can be particularly demanding if he believes someone is lagging behind. It's not just a matter of ability, it's a matter of life and death and lagging means you risk the lives of both yourself and your wingmates, which is absolutely unacceptable.

Off duty, G'er is a jovial fellow and likes to gamble. He can't take risks on-duty but he sure as shards can when he's not being official. Knuckle bones, cards, betting at races... even dares are all options as long as they don't cross an invisible line and make him switch into official wingleader mode. It's earned him a bit of a reputation as being a 'people man'.

He has a good head for patterns and rewards those who can challenge him with puzzles, riddles, and other such intellect sharpening tasks. G'er loves a good riddle as much as he likes a fine wine. This propensity for leadership, attention to detail, and eye for patterns is what garnered him enough esteem to be granted the title of Wingleader in the first place.

Positive Trait List Devoted, Empathetic, Approachable, Confident, Charismatic
Negative Trait List Daredevil, Guilt-Riddled, Gambler, Demanding, Formal
    History:
G'er was born in one of the cotholds that dot High Reaches' territory. He had been born to a weaver and a farmer and was a rambunctious, energetic, and sharpminded child. Enough so that if he wasn't underfoot he was off getting into some trouble or other as he explored the land. This independance drew him away from the cothold more frequently than it should have throughout his childhood and while his parents tolerated it, it was starting to develop a reputation for being lazy and unreliable.

That all changed, however, when he turned 13 and he lost his mother to a stampede of herdbeasts. He'd skipped out on the work for the day, where he was expected to help herd the beasts into their corrals for sorting, tagging, tithes, and slaughter. His mother stepped in to fill the gap G'er had left. She helped around the farm, yes, but most of her time was spent weaving garments and fabrics for the cothold not herding beasts. Her inexperience and petite frame were no match for the angry bull and she was trampled to death when they broke through the corral.

G'er returned expecting to tell his folks of his latest exploits and get the usual gentle reprimand. Instead he came home to a family torn asunder. He blamed himself and the death hit him hard... he changed thereafter, trying to make amends. It taught him a lesson that he will never forget: your life is a part of the community's, irresponsibility endangers those around you.

About six months after his mother's death, he and few other children from the cothold were searched for High Reaches Weyr. He went because he could not bear his father's gaze or the sideways glances from his neighbours any more. It was as raw for them as it was him and he could not help but find blame in their gazes. The Weyr was a chance to start over, to prove he could be depended upon. His father did not disagree, believing the move would teach his son discipline and dedication.

It wasn't long before G'er stood upon the sands for the first time. Nervous and the first hints of his future self stirring within, Ironith made a beeline for him. He'd barely completed his Candidate training and now he was a bronze rider. The realization dawned on him immediately and the weight of that responsibility clicked into place upon his shoulders. From that point forward, he dedicated himself towards being the ideal bronzerider and cultivated positive social connections as a private means of redemption – when people ask about his past, he rarely answers, either changing the subject or speaking vaguely.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

    DRAGON
    Name: Ironith
    Age: 11
    Color: Bronze
    Size: 44'
    Physical Description:
Ironith is well named – He is large, solid, and rippling with muscle. Where his rider is plain, this dragon is a beautiful specimen of a bronze. Smooth unblemished hide, broad wings meant more for stamina than acrobatics, and a particularly long tail mean he cuts a unique silhouette in the air. There's always a bit of a proud arch to this one's neck and he walks (and flies) with the swagger of someone who knows they're gorgeous. His tail is his emotional barometer, much like a housecat's, and when it twitches repeatedly, his patience is growing thin.

    Personality:
Ironith is suave and outspoken, confident in his and His' abilities. He's also a gigantic flirt, though like G'er he very much separates business from pleasure. He has a flattering word for male and female dragons alike, often trying to facilitate romantic encounters for his Rider. It's his way of pushing G'er towards truly personal connections and to keep G'er from defaulting too much to 'leader mode'. G'er generally doesn't mind.

Like G'er, Ironith enjoys a good dare, and a chance to show off. He's too big to really ever compete with the grace of the Greens and Blues but he enjoys aerial contests that pit him against their agility – he usually loses, but it gives him opportunity to improve his poor agility. That said, he is very much a being of personal improvement and will listen to constructive criticism with an open heart, will endeavour to be a better dragon... a better person after every experience.

Because of his gregarious nature, Ironith can sometimes be seen as lacking depth of character. He's been called a standard bronze many times by dragons and riders that have only seen him flirt or preen. It amuses more than wounds him, however, as it speaks to their ignorance... and feeds his sense of confidence, or superiority depending on who you ask.

Ironith works hard and plays harder, always seeking to improve and be better. It's his motto in life and a motto both he and G'er ascribe to it.

    Name: H'ex (Formerly Hivex)

    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
    Weyr: Western Weyr
    Rider Rank: Wingrider - Searchrider
    Previous Rank/Craft: Farmercraft / Apprentice
    Physical Description:
Hivex is tall, willowy, and freckled with mousy brown hair and hazel eyes. While more on the androgynous side, he’s fairly average in his appearance. He does, however, take great care in the daily presentation of himself. His hair is always tamed, short cut and styled as best as he can manage, his clothing is always fresh and crisp, and his boots are, without fail, always shined. Even on the farm, when the chores were done and mud washed away, he would clean up to be presentable to family and friends a like.

Hivex favours utilitarian clothing of heavy, durable fabrics and dark colours for chores but for day to day activity, he prefers more formal attire, better suited to reflect his rank as Wingrider. His knot, however unremarkable, is worn with pride.

    Personality:
Taking after his father, Hivex is soft spoken when he does speak, and he prefers to have a purpose for speaking. In a family of eight, conversation could often get rowdy and loud and he learned to cope by trimming his words down to the very most essential things so that when he spoke, others tended to listen. This is a trait shared with his father and the two would often sit in amiable silence to enjoy the farm while the others roused themselves and breakfasted.

An early riser, it is uncommon for Hivex to sleep in much past sunrise, and most common to see him up and about in the twilight hours just before the sun graces the horizon. He quite enjoys the sunrise, for its poetic beauty, the semi-hush of the waking world, and its sentimental value. It’s not that he dislikes the hustle and bustle of daily routines; it’s more that the quiet moments in between let him breathe and relax. And, really, it was only during these quiet times that he found a little privacy and peace in his ever-busy family.

Honourable, polite, and gentlemanly, Hivex will pause to open doors, greet people, and otherwise be amicable even if he does not speak much. Mixed reactions sometimes confuses him, but he mostly ignores the gossip and jabs at his sensibilities – choosing to believe those people are simply too ignorant to realize the value of the spoken word, or of silence. In that, they are right – he can be particularly snobbish and caustic when they do wear him down enough that he snaps. Most simply don’t take the time to understand why he is quiet. Because he does not like to speak overmuch, he far prefers a more supportive role in group activities and has proven quite adept at it.

Theft, however, sends him off the deep end. It simply is not tolerated by this one. Growing up, where everything was shared and shared alike, he had very few things that were his alone. As a result, he can be particularly territorial over what he considers his personal valuables. He almost never loans out personal affects and is very secretive about his dear, dear diary (which of course, fuels curiosity about it – much to his chagrin). His temper does flare like others’ do – instead it is a cold kind of fury, the kind where his voice becomes cold, flat, his gaze sharpens and pierces you, and his body becomes somehow more formal, stiffer and more imposing. He is cutting, brutally honest, unapproachably unapologetic and quite verbose when you anger him enough to cause a fit of rage – and there is nothing like theft to spark such a fit. You want to know what he’s thinking? You want to know what’s in this book? Oh, he’ll tell you alright, he’ll tell you that and ever other little fault you’ve displayed in the theft as well, you miserable cretin! You should be ashamed of yourself!

The side most people do not see, and can usually only guess at (though Tialzieth makes much more obvious) is his more whimsical side. Always first to the Harper’s lessons, he listened with a great deal of interest and while some thought him merely keen to do well, he was, in fact, truly interested in the stories and histories the harper had to tell. Not as prone to flights of fancy at his bronze, he does still enjoy daydreaming when the opportunity arises – though the dreams have shifted throughout the years.

Also, because of his love of story and history, Hivex is much more accepting of lies then he is of theft. He can understand the need to lie – to hide your precious toy from demanding sisters, to create a spot of peace or wriggle out of trouble, or even make a story better. Lies that harm, however, means he thinks you’re irresponsible – if it hurts another, why do it?

Over all, Hivex is a complex mixture of child and adult, driven to be his best but also private in his personal life. If you will listen, he will speak… and he will listen if you speak – but do not waste his time with needless gossip and hurtful insults. You can depend on him, but do not pry into his life unbidden.

Positive Trait List Observant, Creative, Polite
Negative Trait List Shy, Whimsical, Easily Distracted

    History:
Hivex was the youngest child born into a farming family that specialized in raising livestock. His mother, despite being a farmer’s wife, had exceptional people-handling skills and raised her brood of six children with a stern hand. Driving responsibility and honour into each of her two daughters and four sons, she was determined that they be upstanding citizens and productive holders when they became adults. His father, a honest and upright gentleman added to that strong upbringing in his own ways – respect the earth and respect its guardians and it will take care of you. His words were few but his lessons strong and the family as a whole prospered.

Hivex’s eldest brother (the oldest of the six) became an established and talented drummer while his middle brother (the second oldest of the six) developed a keen interest in the livelihood of the family. His sisters also remained within the farming community and took husbands in neighbouring farms, leaving Hivex to also inherit a farm that, while he loved, he always felt he didn’t quite fit. It wasn’t a higher calling, but rather a continued nervousness around the livestock that caused his work to be that much more difficult. His parents were not daunted by his skittishness around the beasts and thought he would grow out of it as he became a man.

Almost mercifully, he was Searched during a trip to the Hold that his farm delivered tithes to. He agreed to the opportunity quickly and it was clear from that moment onward something in him had blossomed. As a child he would roam the fields with his siblings, or more commonly alone, lost in thought and wonder and, unlike his siblings, would almost obsessively keep a diary. The entries were usually scribbled on some spare parchment and bound with thin filaments of rope – a ramshackle diary if anything – and would be on any and every topic his mind came across. Not overly verbose, he chose instead to express himself in roughly sketched images and leaf and flower presses and rubbings and rambling tales – but always kept to his diary.

At the Weyr, this tendency didn’t change. He was a soft spoken gentleman, polite and genial but his lack of deliberate social engagements and tendency to speak little made his peers think he was more aloof or cold or snobbish then the rest of them. In reality, he was watching and recording and experiencing, a tad vicariously, life at the weyr. His diary became infamous – its tattered pages and home-made bindings iconic to the other candidates and the topic of much gossip.

Few dared to steal it, however, as the one time someone had, the poor soul had been lectured long and hard in most coldest of voices and reduced to tears. He had never apologized and they had not stolen from him again – it was a tenuous peace.

The first time he Stood at a Hatching, the dragonets came and passed, and while a brown had stared long into his eyes he had ultimately been rejected. Disheartened by that rejection, he had considered leaving the Weyr. In the end, he stayed because he was truly happy here, among the bustle and activity and chores so familiar to home but, unlike home, without the invasion of privacy and pressing responsibility a large family incurred. He could be and do as he wanted here and that appealed to Hivex, as it does to most teenagers.

A second Hatching came and went, with not great fanfare, this time he was not even considered by any of the dragons that hatched.

Finally, at his third Hatching shortly after his 19th nameday, there was absolutely no doubt about who Tialzieth wanted. The bronze had made a beeline for Hivex, bowling over a few unfortunate candidates in his hurry to get to His. Even then, he’d tackled the surprised youth and immediately started telling Hivex of the things he could remember from inside the egg and how he was hungry, hungry enough to eat a whoooooole herdbeast, and why did Hivexmine look so startled? He was His!

And, that, as they say was that.

Initially, people wondered at the matching – including Hivex, now H’ex – but it became obvious with time that the two were better then matched then could be seen from outward appearances alone.

Since Impressing, H'ex has served at Western as a wingrider and a searchrider. The ability to range far and wide as part of his duties helps feed his creative soul and people are usually keen to talk to a dragon, something Tialzieth is delighted by.

    Other:

    DRAGON
    Name: Tialzieth
    Age: 9
    Color: Bronze
    Size: 38'
    Physical Description:
Blotched like a poison dart frog, his markings are exotic and his colours rich in hue. Not a large bronze by any means, Tia takes pride in his smaller stature and lithe build as it makes it easier to navigate (the greens and whites have it easy there!)

    Personality:
Even as a dragonet, Tialzieth was talkative – not just to other dragons, but to people and flits, and anyone else who wanted to listen. Ever fond of tales and music and adventure, this dragon will just as soon stop to listen to the harper’s tales as he will spin some far flung drama. With a better memory then most dragons, his stories are often spun from his own experiences and they’re never the same twice. While he is young, fibs and stories are a grey area for him and while he never deliberately lies, he sees no harm in exaggerating a little.

A dreamer in a dragon’s body, this bronze is often distracted by his thoughts and rather dislikes silence. To the point where he’ll vocally rumble and huff and bugle to disrupt the silence he feel encroaches on the closeness between people. A particularly social bronze, he is at his best in a group and works wonders as a team mate. Some, especially when he is young, find his vociferous enthusiasm both daunting and perhaps even annoying. After all, why can’t his rider quiet the loud dragon? Must he ask all these questions? And, really, can you not speak for yourself?

In a group setting, he would never be a leader but he runs intermediate exceptionally well. Given a task, he will complete it – no matter how far flung it is. As such he would likely be best suited as a search dragon, or perhaps a wingsecond if his day-dreaming and adventurous spirit can be focused enough. Also, he often speaks on behalf of his rider and some may wonder if the rider Impressed the dragon or the dragon Impressed the rider.

His adventurous soul and tendency to spin tales can and will, however, get both he and His into trouble. Where others would hesitate to tread, Tialzieth will blithely go forward, if only because the opportunity for another story or another adventure awaits around the next bend. Also of note, his stories and imagination make him a superstitious creature – not paralyzingly so – but enough that he will develop specific rituals, especially when something brings good fortune for he and His, and can grow quite distraught when those rituals are interrupted.

Viewing Golds as the fair maidens, queens, and glorious matrons from his beloved stories, Tialzieth will be more then willing to give chase to a gold when he matures. The very thrill of the Mating Flight is akin to the brave souls rescuing the damsels from the thread or to meet the challenge of the noble Amazonian warrior. In short, he idolizes the power and prestige the golds represent and will pay homage without failure – whether it is by compliment or by gift – even if he is spurned. This childlike ideology doesn’t really seem to change as he grows, only mature from that of ‘fanboy’ to ‘doting suitor’.

Of middling size and sleeker then normal build, this bronze likens himself to a work of art. He knows he’s beautiful and while it isn’t an overwhelming facet of her personality, he will simply snort and tell you otherwise if you suggest he lacks in the beauty department. Endurance is average, nothing special, which makes the likelihood of his actually catching a gold in flight slim – perpetuating his adoring attitudes.

    Specializes in Logic and Research

G'ryl is a person who hides behind logic, bottle up their emotions until they can release them in private. As such, he's particular good at self control and puts great stock in private time/personal space. Socially awkward, hoping for friends, and now impressed to a dragon with a penchant for research, G'ryl is a bit of a wallflower.

    Plot Requests & Notes:
    • Friends! He didn't really have any dedicated friends and now that he's a brownrider, that seems that much more likely. Open to RP with anyone, Spooky Clutch or non!

    • Tactical games partners and/or formal chin up, cry in private acquaintances to be all composed with.

    • Open to ideas!

    User Image

Inquisitive, colorist, superior, and highly intelligent, Sarcoth believes he is the best. He's polite though, so he's not quite insufferable. Also loves blankets, blankets and recognition of his perfection.

    Plot Requests & Notes:
    • Sassmaster partners.

    • Research/info nerd friends

    • Volunteers to bury him in sand and blankets, like always.

    Name: Gavryl
    Age: 22
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
    Craft: Weyrbrat
    Rank: N/A
    Location: Western
Physical Description: Gavryl is a ectomorph – high metabolism, growth spurts all throughout his teens, and long limbs have left him looking, well long and thin. He's not very strong, physically, and never has been. Dark black-brown hair is roughly trimmed into something halfway decent but he's not very good at getting the back sides – he compensates for this with pommade he carefully applies each morning to give his hair a sort of chunky, edgy appearance that ends up looking like he put way too much effort into it. His eyes are green-hazel and his face in long with high cheekbones, constantly in serious or thoughtful expressions. Wears dark colours with little flair but as fine craftsmanship as he can afford – not because he prefers luxury but because well made things last longer.
    Personality:
Gavryl is a creature of logic and self interest. He prefers to stick to himself and never really learned how best to express his emotions, resulting in him bottling up said emotions on a regular basis. He's not terribly comfortable, or well spoken, when he does try to voice his emotional state to anyone and as a result prefer to stay quiet... breaking down in private where prying eyes won't see and judging ears won't hear.

That's not to say he's without opinions – he very much has them. They are, however, almost always drawn from a place of logic rather than intuition or emotion. He is hyper analytical and prefers efficiency to 'fun' or 'feel like it' reasoning. The most efficient route for deliveries, the best schedule for chores, whatever it is he speaks of ways to improve the process. This is a double edged sword because it makes it seem as if he's a teacher's pet, over critical, or completely socially awkward and while those might be true... you won't find a better ally if he believe your plan of sound logic.

Gavryl is the sort to save for those expensive well made leather shoes, or that heavy fine coat not because he is a creature of luxury but because your marks are best spent on those items that will last the longest. There's absolutely no sense in investing in cheap, shoddy work when you'll replace it twice as quickly as you would a finer item.

This young man is also not terribly physical... he always seems to keep some space between him and his fellows. It's hard to discern exactly why and most just write this off as a personality quirk. In truth he just... he's not sure what to do, where to put his hands... is he standing to close? Too far? Social cues are often lost on him and he's rather terrified of screwing up somehow. When he does make the occasional foray into affection, it usually manifests as a hand on the shoulder.

His cold matter-of-fact tones, logical thinking, and blunt mannerisms don't often win friends and he carries an air as if this doesn't matter at all. It does matter, though, but his social anxiety makes it difficult to lower that barrier and take those risky first steps to make connections.

Positive Trait List Logic, Driven, Loyal, Intelligent, Pragmatic, Practical
Negative Trait List Selfish, Cold, Anxious, Blunt, Sharp, Critical
    History:
Gavryl was born and raised at Western, among the ideals of merit ruling, of a people come together. He was enamored with this idea as a child and determined that he would one day become a dragonrider like all those glorious men and women he saw every day. It was an average childhood, raised with the rest of the Weyrbrats in the creche, put to work when he was old enough... but even as a child, his logical tendencies put off the other children. They saw him as a spoil sport, a mood killer, and spurned him. He took this hard and it formed in him a desire to be accepted and an awkwardness of never knowing how to attain that acceptance.

When thread began to fall, his child's dream grew that much more real and that much more logical. The dragonriders were the ones to burn the Thread from the sky, they would protect Pern from its deadly touch and the best way to ensure that was done effectively was to be among them – he had absolute confidence in his ability to provide well-planned, well-targeted duties on behalf of Pern.

So he used his right as a Weyrbrat to begin standing at the Hatchings. He's not sure what to expect as the wisdom around dragons seems so based in intuition... there's no simple predictive pattern to the events. That makes him nervous but stand he will.

Origin of Name: Sarcoth is named after the sarcophagus, which is what many mummy's traditionally depicted as buried in. It comes from the Greek phrase "lithos sarkophagos" which essentially means "flesh-eating stone". There are different types of sarcophagi over the ages from beautifully painted fresnos from Ancient Greece, elaborately carved limestone sarcophagi from Ancient Rome, and of course, the outer shell like sacophagi from Ancient Egyptian times. The sarcophagus fell out of style in more modern times, usually due to limited space.

Inspiration: Sarcoth is based on the horror monster Mummy. Mummies often are under some sort of curse, and are woken from their sarcophagus by someone defiling their tomb, or stealing their treasure. Mummies are often brought to life through curses and spells, such as stolen treasure; they are vulnerable against cold and fire; and tend to have powers such as summoning plagues of insects or sandstorms, immunity against attacks, and draining the life force of their victims.

Personality: Sarcoth is surprisingly intelligent brown. While he might not have the spunk and fire of some of his siblings, he has intelligence in droves. He loves to learn, be it from his siblings, or other dragons, and will likely be quite inquisitive as a hatchling. There is, perhaps, a bit of a pompous air about the dragon; he believes that he is the smartest and most clever dragon in the room, and in some cases he'd be right. Sarcoth's intelligence can make him look down his snout at others, and think himself better than them. If they can't match him wit for wit, then why should he bother wasting time on them? He feels he shouldn't have to spend time with the rabble.

This doesn't often allow the brown to make many friends, but he doesn't mind.
He's far too discerning to care, and most out there aren't worth his time. For the lucky few whom he does have an affinity for, they will find his company to be charming, clever, and engaging. Even to those he doesn't like, Sarcoth is well-spoken and eloquent. He can insult someone right to their face, but they'd never know it; either the words he uses are too large, or they're crafted well enough to sound like a compliment. Just because he is above someone doesn't mean he has to be obviously rude.

Sarcoth is a dragon who thinks himself above being a beast of burden. He could be considered cultured and refined, and likes to have lengthy discussions about history, the arts, and other scholarly pursuits. He'll find wing-drills tedious, and while he will fight Thread, he will find the entire ordeal odious. He'd much rather be buried in the sand and have his rider read him archives, or discuss the latest happenings stirring up the world.

One thing Sarcoth can be is a bit old-fashioned. He does think of himself as better than greens and blues. He honestly thinks he is more intelligent, worth more inch by inch, and that they are nothing more than compliant drone soldiers and thread fodder. Sarcoth will respect golds and bronzes -- they are the proper leaders, and though he sometimes wishes he were bronze, he is content enough that he is in Western. This doesn't spare them from some of his judgments, particularly against unaffiliated metallics, or golds and bronzes who don't bother to vie for power, but he would fall in line as a brown is supposed to do. What he really does not care for is Western's dynamic -- the fact that there are greens and blues and whites giving him orders grates against his own desire for power.

Funny thing about Sarcoth is his hypocrisy. He will judge from afar, but he is too lazy and disinterested to do the actual work required to rise up the ranks. He likes the idea of respect and power an control, but will never do the work required to get there. It's far easier to judge from a distance.

    Positive Traits: Intelligent, Cultured, Eloquent
    Negative Traits: Colorist, Pompous, Hypocritical

    Adult Size: 34'
Physical Attributes: Sarcoth is an average sized brown. He's perhaps on the smaller side of average, but that doesn't get him down! He has long wings, and a long tail, and can fly ever so elegantly once on the wing. He would never admit that his stamina might not be as great as some of the other browns -- his preference not to train and to be idle in his sandy wallow can lead him to being out of shape. He will likely complain to his rider about all the physical exercise he must go through, and if his rider doesn't stand firm, his brown will likely be a bit more round.

Additional Notes: Sarcoth will love to be bundled up in blankets as a hatchling. As he grows, he'll still enjoy burrowing under blankets -- even if it's just his tail -- and will always love to wallow and roll in sand.

He does seem to prefer the company of Aramath & Strigonth... maybe because he out ranks both his friends. As for flights, he'll be picky about who he chases... It'll take someone with both beauty and brains to keep him around longer than one night. He'll also likely pander to all the metallics in his clutch, and try to stay in their good graces.

Theme Song: Oh Lord, It's Hard to Be Humble - Mac Davis

Why Me? Sarcoth knew Gavryl was the one from the moment he touched his shell. While some might wonder why such an arrogant and seemingly power hungry brown would choose socially-awkward Gavryl, well, it only proves they don't know a lick about the brown.

Sarcoth appreciates Gavryl's independent and aloof was. He is not the most social of dragons, and appreciates that his rider tends to stick to himself. Should Gavryl be forced into a social situation, Sarcoth will have no problem encouraging his rider, and of course, helping to craft a more eloquent reply. Gavryl need not feel awkward or unsure -- he is Sarcoth's missing piece, and together, the will make a stunning pair.

Sarcoth appreciates Gavryl's fine taste. While he knows the man's please of such things comes from a place of logic, Sarcoth knows he will benefit from it. The brown's emotions and feelings on matters might be tempered by his rider's cool logic; and Sarcoth might tear down some of Gavryl's anxieties. If the man might not know how to be physical, then Sarcoth will teach him -- he will not hesitate to show his rider his love. There is nothing to fear -- Sarcoth loves Gavryl more than he loves himself, and that's saying something! He will be patient and soothing, and is the one person on Pern Sarcoth would never judge. Gavryl is flawless in his eyes, and he wants nothing more than to share the world with him.

    Name: Symon
    Age: 32
    Sex: Female
    Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
    Weyr: Western Weyr
    Rider Rank: Wingrider, Searchrider
    Previous Rank/Craft: Cook
    Physical Description:
Symon is a tiny woman, standing at just 5'1”. A cooking accident involving boiling oil had left her with a patchwork of scars over her scalp and face and no hair (she had a tuft or two but she keeps them shaved for simplicity's sake). An athletic build out of necessity, Symon's love of food is thankfully balanced out by the demands of a dragonrider. The scars stole whatever beauty she might have had but she wears the scars proudly and does not attempt to disguise anything with cosmetics. The scars make it easy to miss her heterochromatic eyes – one blue, one green.

    Personality:
Symon is the sort to choose words carefully to mask their full meaning. She very rarely speaks bluntly and always seems like she's got something more up her sleeve or one more tidbit of information she's just not telling you. This is a rider who likes to tantalize people their own imaginations and as such, she's developed a reputation for being secretive... and manipulative. It's not neccessarily a bad thing, but it certainly depends on where you find yourself on her 'like or hate' spectrum.

That said, Symon isn't exactly refined in her word selection. Her vocabulary is peppered with curse words, coarse turns of phrase, and some rather downright dirty remarks. Part of this is because she just doesn't seem to have much inhibition control. More drink? Sure! Make an advance on that pretty man or woman? Sure! She'll also stand up for herself and doesn't seem to care too much how this might affect her career – as far as she's concerned, she's a dragonrider and Thread's falling for next foreseeable future so she's got some mighty fine job security (after all, what are they going to do, fire her?)

Beyond her sly tendencies, Symon can be dependable – if she likes you enough to be, that is. Otherwise, she can be downright cruel. Her manipulative streak has helped some achieve great things and has caused scandals worthy of weyr-wide gossip in others. She sometimes seems as she revels in the mayhem she has been architect of.

Positive Trait List Dependable, social, confident
Negative Trait List Secretive, manipulative, cruel

    History:
Symon's family immigrated to Western Weyr when she was young, coming in search of steady income and prospects for their family. Mostly farmers, their land had experience several years of poor harvest and wasting diseases that made their life there unfeasible. In arriving at the Weyr, they took up positions among the Weyrfolk tending the herds and preparing food in the kitchens. It wasn't a glamourous life but it was reliable, and safe, and at times dramatic.

Symon was always curious about the Weyrfolk and the very different lives they lead from the simple holder's world she'd come from. Gossip, rumour, drama... jockeying for favours and trading of secrets fascinated the youth as she grew and she became skilled in the seedier side of the Weyr's social structure. Throughout this all, she noticed the dragons also had their own social structure and rumours among the riders and, recognizing the relative power of the dragonriders, she began to navigate those circles more. To some she was a confidant, a friend, or a vicious enemy and in any case she developed a reputation for knowing things.

Then the accident happened and her decent looks were dashed upon the ground as oil burns ruined her face and head. It was long time, well into her teens, before she found her confidence again and she leaned all the harder into the manipulative streak to keep and reject friends.

When she Impressed from the Stands one Hatching, she was rather stunned to find the perfect partner in crime settling into her thoughts and requesting her presence upon the Sands in a velvet voice. Fayrunth, a bright mottled blue, sat primly and still as a statue as he awaited her.

It wasn't long before she threw herself headlong into the riders' world. Her blue chasing greens on a regular basis, fostering relationships, gathering intelligence... redistributing it if the trade was fair... They were an effective pair and their knack for social navigation was recognized enough to send them out as Searchriders. Some wondered if it was also to get the confident, troublesome pair out the Weyr leadership's hair for a few days at a time as well.

Content with their role, Symon and Fayrunth have revelled in each other's company ever since and take great pride in their abilities to play human – and sometimes even dragon – fiddles.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

    DRAGON
    Name: Fayrunth
    Age: 14
    Color: Blue
    Size: 32'
    Physical Description:
Fayrunth is long, sinuous, and... more academic in build than he would like. On the large size for a blue, he's often still enough people forget he's there. He rarely speaks to anyone other than his rider, even for a dragon, and the small of body language he does let on is mostly in the form of tail-twitching or eye colours swirling. It's almost like he's a status sometimes and if it weren't for his rider's ease, some might wonder if he were ill.

    Personality:
Fayrunth is an observer. He prefers to watch and take note of the goings-on of people. This tendency has lead to people calling him a gossip or a creeper, and while those may be negative terms he never really seems to be upset by them. Yes, he does gather information, and yes he may divulge such information but only for the appropriate price. You see, Fayrunth deals in information and favours and he never does anything for free. You want to know what that green was heard saying about the Council last week? He knows, but he'll expect a flask of wine for His or a box of sweets... the more elusive the information, the higher the cost.

To compliment this tendency, Fayrunth is an excellent reader of people – he's got some strong intuition and a knack for reading facial expressions and body language. He'll observe through his rider's eyes or his own and provide commentary even as Symon plays the field. It's a powerful combination and the two have spent much time perfecting it. Pushing buttons, getting people to light up or shut down... it's a game to Fayrunth and successfully finding the right combinations of words and implications to ellicit the desired emotion is extremely rewarding.

When he does speak, his mental voice is smooth and rich, almost musical in its depth. And he likes to use it as a finishing blow when manipulating humans in particular.

For all his selfish cruelty, Fayrunth is extremely effective when directed to beneficial tasks and provided you've garnered enough respect for him to actually try at the task. He's not lazy, no, but he won't waste his time making you look good off of his work if he doesn't believe in you. His sights good, his intuition better... and you must make it worth his while to apply himself.
