Life has a strange way of turning itself over and making you cringe and try really hard to figure out exactly where things went so crazy. Coughing up perhaps the eighth mouthful of sand Casey was matted and tired. He had not run into his sister at all after the forest fire caused by the deava. That had been a bit of blow. Still when he had snuck back into the woods and hid trying to find her he couldn’t even locate her scent. This told him she was most likely out and looking for him. With that fact in mind he relaxed a bit. It was worrisome that he couldn’t find her but as long as she was alive he had faith they would meet again in time. After all they were twins. That’ was just how that worked. So he wracked his brain for a while trying to think of something fun. Or rather more importantly someplace fun. If there was one thing he knew about his sister he knew it was that she was attracted to fun things. Strange, odd, things they didn’t know growing up. So that was why he was here now. This land this place fun of sand, heat and the unknown. Flicking his ears back he was looking around for the next oasis. So far he was following the general direction toward the tribe Kemet. It sounded interesting and honestly he thought he might find a clue about Shea that way. Still even if he didn’t he thought he might stay a while and check out the place because then he would have more interesting stories to share with his twin later.

Still it was a shame that the place he had chosen to venture had so much sand. Even Casey had to admit he was not used to this level of dirt and he had been known to bath in mud for fun as a kit. He took a moment to try and figure out why the sand tasted strange compared to other places. it was the texture he decided. He had been a number of places where sand or dirt had gotten onto his kills and he just had to deal with the grit rather then let the food go to waste. Still this was a new kind of experience for him. He would rate it as a 1 of 10 on the fun scale simply for the fact that it never seemed to stop the fine sand had the knack for getting everywhere and even a dip in the small oasis he came across before was not all that refreshing a short time later when he was coated yet again in sand. Following the advice of several other foxes he had met along the way who had told him of the tribe he wondered how much longer it would take. There were strange larger looming he had seen several times but didn’t have a name for. He was headed toward one such shape now. He had been told they were good places to get out of the sand and heat as well as places where the tribe stored food for travelers on the way to the tribe. Casey thought that was a rather smart thing to do. without such places it was unlikely that any fox in their right mind would come to this place and of course it also meant anyone on the way out to this land for any reason had to travel where the tribe could keep an eye on them and not just surprise them by coming from a different direction or something. It prevented needless stupid death and served as a narrow path that others had to come down that was easy to watch. He had never meet a member of the Kemet tribe but they must be smarter than most to do this. Glancing around he didn’t notice anyone at all on the horizion as he got closer. In fact the place seemed pretty abandoned. Not sure if this was an abandoned place or not Casey sniffed a few times as he got to the strange structure. He couldn’t say to much about it’s asthetics but as long as it got him out of the sand it really didn’t matter what it looked like right now. He would take the time for a closer look to describe to his sister later. For now he headed itn.

As soon as he was inside he stopped cold. There were other scents in here so the place couldn’t be abandoned. He knew the scents had to be fresh because the air in the place wasn’t stale either so for the scent to be as strong as it was he would bet there had to be a fox in this place within a few days. Looking around he listened with his ears up and alert. There was no response in any direction he could tell at least. There were sounds of water dripping and rippling somewhere. Being cautious he snuck toward the sound and stopped when he smelled food. Shaking his head he did his best to shove that scent out and focus on the possible threat first. Once he knew the place was safe then he might consider finding the food, and maybe even eating it if it was decent. That’s what it was there for after all right? He kept his steps light and tried to be as quite as possible. Peeking around a corner he saw a green …something or other on the floor and a large spread out pool of water with an orange vixen who seemed to be bathing. He had to admit he rather liked her lithe little body. Still after moment his brain started to work again and he realized he shouldn’t be staring at her. Slipping back he decided to follow his nose toward the food. Finding a storage room of sorts. The food in question was in earthen containers and there were sweet fruits and dried meats. There was honey that tasted great with pretty much everything that he tried it with. He was nibbling away happily and didn’t realize he had started to let down his guard. He happened to glance at the entryway and noticed the vixen who was bathing earlier looking at him with an amused smile on her face. “Oh don’t mind me, please continue”. He gave her a grin in return. “Well I don’t mind if I do, care to join me?” His muscles were ready to run having been discovered. To his surprise she laughed and came over to actually join him. He was even more surprised when she had the nerve to swipe the food in front of him. Still it was hers he supposed unless she was a traveler like he was. “So are you traveling to the tribe Kemet as well?” When she shook her head he tried the other way. “Well heading out from Kemet?” “No afraid not.” “Just a random lost soul or a tribe member?” “You tell me food theif” “mmm Tribe member, you’re too cocky to be just some stranger sitting in this place eating with another stranger” The vixen seemed to enjoy that answer besides the little marking on her front leg seemed a bit off to be random but he could be wrong.

The two shared the meal making small talk about little things like family. It seemed the vixen had a number of siblings and her mother and father were madly in love even after moving to the desert together. The vixen’s name was Wren which was apparently a kind of bird and one of her brothers was traveling, just as his sister was undoubtedly doing. She was sympathetic to his loss but seemed to understand the desire to gather more interesting information and then finding an interesting place to settle down and wait for his sister. Licking the last of the honey off his paws he eyed her. “You know if I wasn’t certain before I know you’re a tribe member now just from this little chat.” She laughed at him. “Laugh all you want birdie the stories we share tell a lot about us. Your family sounds a little crazy but the good kind, and the way you’ve grown up is kind of nice. It’s like you had a lot of foxes watching your back and that’s more than a lot of others can say in this world. It’s kind of nice” His tail wagged and he glanced around. “Since I’m not being mauled by you I’m guessing eating the food was alright and that you’re the only one here?” She nodded twice chewing away. “Well that’s nice. So I’m headed the right way for the tribe.” Again a nod while she swallowed. “Could I ask for a guide?” Licking her maw she nodded at him again. “Great then I have myself a cute little desert bird to guide me safely~” With that she blushed. She was rather a cute fox now that he looked at her. She would defiantly make the trip more memorable but not all of it he would tell to his sister later.

Several days later they had left the outpost as Wren called it. She said the scribes would keep it cleaned and stocked with food for travelers and fairly often regular tribe members like Wren would come on out and see how things were and if any wayward fox had started to live there. If they needed a guide out of the desert then she would head back to get a scout or someone who could fly for sake of speed and ease of travel, not to mention safety and they could come and escort them out. But if the wayward fox wanted to head to the tribe well then she could just bring them right up. Casey asked if she was worried about being attacked or assaulted all alone. She had laughed at him and told him that she could just take off into the desert and the stupid fool who did attack could be left to die in the heat or if they still made it back to the tribe without a guide by some miracle, arriving alone would get them a more cautioned response. With a guide was a safe way to come and really the best option.

Figuring she was right he really wasn’t all that surprised when as soon as he had arrived with Wren he had been lead off to her parent’s home and feed and able to bath. It seemed really easy to mark out family members in this tribe since it seemed there were several fairly large families living in Kemet. Casey was admittedly a bit jealous of the thought. It had been him and his sister for so long the idea of having a larger family was really nice. He did have to escape Wren’s mother though, the female seemed to be sizing him up for something and it was only with Wren’s help that he could escape. Outside taking a stroll around the pyramids he noticed several phims up higher bathing in the sun. “Doesn’t that bother them with the dark fur and all?” Apparently since they had all grown up in this heat they were used to it. “So ah what’s the deal with your mother. It’s like she was pinning me under her paw to get a closer look at me and if it wasn’t for your father distracting her and you dragging me out I would never have escaped.” He watched her fidget just a bit and tried to explain to him that any male brought home by one of the girls or even another girl brought home got that kind of treatment. Wren it seemed was the only one to have come back to Kemet but had not yet found a mate. Laughing he teased her a bit and asked if he had to pass her mother’s little tests before being allowed to stay another night. She of course swatted him and then hurried ahead making him increase to a jaunt to keep up.

Spending a little more time around Wren and the tribe as whole Casey found them easy going and fun. Not only that but they had a number of stories from their own ventures to tell him so he got to hear about even more of the world. He found himself sitting and listening to stories and then hearing from Wren later or not if they were the same stories as always or just a touch exaggerated here or there. Casey had to admit he found himself at home and became a jungle gym for the little perma kits who lived in the tribe. Spending nights curled up Wren under the stars soon the more he thought about leaving the less he wanted to go. Soon he was entertaining thoughts of saying a while longer. His sister could come and find him here in Kemet. Finally he went to see the tribe leader with Wren and asked for permission to stay. It was granted to him and with that he started his new life in Kemet and started to work on wooing a certain little desert bird.
