So I Hear You Want To Transfer Somewhere Else...

You're in the right thread! Now before you start throwing all your characters in line to get out of wherever they're situated, you need to understand the rules and restrictions before you sign up! Please read the following very carefully, and understand we're testing this out mostly for IC purposes, and to keep people a little happier OOCly. We might not be able to accommodate your request, so keep that in mind before you start signing up!

One thing to remember is this is only for already approved and placed characters. If your character's history has them running around all sorts of Weyrs, or hopping from Weyr to Weyr to Weyr, that's fine. We're not going to enforce these limits on an individuals history -- but we are going to enforce them once they're moving in real-time.

The Rules
This is the short version. If you want the IC and OOC explanations see the spoiler below!
  1. These are IC transfer request.

  2. Every player gets 2 transfers a year. Because it's almost the end of 2017, you may get 1 transfer before the end of this year. We could change this to more or less as suits the shop.

  3. You have until 11:59pm ET on December 31 to get your forms in!

  4. Transfers are serious business. Keep the IC reason more than "for the lawls".

  5. Weyr-to-Weyr transfers have a 10 Turn IC minimum contract.

  6. If we open up a new PC Weyr or other RP area, we may make exceptions to that 10 Turn minimum and allow cooldowns to be exempt to transfer to that area.

  7. We will allow for 1 transfer a year to be unaffiliated. Keep in mind the restrictions of unaffiliated riders!

  8. Riders becoming unaffiliated can rejoin a Weyr anytime without it counting towards their transfer limit -- but they must accept being "stuck" 10 Turns.

  9. Graduated Weyrlings who were part of the Candidate Swap who served their 5 Turns may enter a Transfer Request FREELY provided it is to go back to their "original" Weyr. It will not count towards the year's transfer slots.

  10. All riders transferring will automatically default to wingrider, regardless of previous rank.

  11. Canddiates do not get to transfer.

  12. Children under 14 do not get to transfer unless going with a family / Weyr's consent.

  13. Characters may not get an immediate response.

  14. Character requests may be denied for any reason.

  15. Once approved, the characters will have anywhere from 48-hours to a sevenday to move.

  16. Wing-to-Wing Transfers are not open for discussion! These happen purely ICly by the Weyrleadership.

    The More-Detailed Rules
We do encourage reading this, as well.

    1. These are IC transfer requests. You must fill out the form as your character would!

    2. Right now we ask you keep it to two (2) transfers a year, so choose wisely. As we are only a month away from 2018, you may sign up for 1 transfer for 2017 before the year resets. Please note these transfer slots do not carry over if you do not use them! Either you do or you don't, and that's that.

    3. You have until 11:59pm ET on December 31 to get your forms in! Anyone who misses the deadline will have it count for the following year. No exceptions.

    4. Please remember that transfers between, or out of, Weyrs are rare. Don't transfer someone just for the heck of transferring. Adding new riders, or taking away riders, can greatly disrupt the health and cohesion of a Wing, and the Weyrleadership of all Weyrs needs to keep their local resources and the health of their Wings in mind.

    5. As of right now, if a character Transfers from one Weyr to another, they must sign at least a 10 Turn fighting contract. Yes, you read that right. Think of these requests as promises to devote yourself to the Weyr of your choice. These are essentially contracts between the Weyr and the rider -- if they devote time, energy, and resources in housing your rider, housing their family (if applicable), training your dragon, keeping you clothed, paying you for your time, etc. then they are NOT going to want you to jump around frequently. If a rider transfers and regret their choice, sorry -- you're stuck, better get used to it. Now that Thread has returned, the Weyrleadership all over Pern have buckled down. They need committed individuals to save the planet! OOCly, it keeps Fable and I from having to constantly change characters and character listings, and keeps the Weyr's a bit more balanced.

    6. If we ever open up a new PC Weyr or area of activity, we may make exceptions to the 10 Turn rule. Otherwise? Once you transfer, your character had better make themselves at home.

    7. We will allow for one (1) of your two transfers a year to become unaffiliated. Please remember this means they likely do not get to fight thread! They give up that right to those of the Weyr. Any rider who goes up fighting will be commanded down by the queens -- no exceptions. You do not get to play it off like the Weyr's don't see you! Threadfall is a big deal and it's an honor meant for those who train for it. Fighting Thread is also very dangerous, and requires a lot of dragons to keep an area, and one another, safe. The only exception is if you work with Masterharper and ICly work with leadership at the PC Weyrs to find some arrangement. This will need to be RPed out. No. Exceptions.

    8. Riders who become Unaffiliated can rejoin a Weyr anytime, but cannot get out of serving at least 10 Turns. Either you're dedicated to fighting Thread or you're not -- you don't get to waffle. Unaffiliated riders rejoining an official Weyr will NOT count toward the transfer limit.

    9. Graduated Weyrlings who were part of the Candidate Swap who served their 5 Turns may enter a Transfer Request FREELY provided it is to go back to their "original" Weyr. It will not count towards the year's transfer slots.

    10. If your dragon rider is a person of rank or has some title besides Wingrider, they will be stripped of it, and brought in simply as a Wingrider. It will be up to the new Weyr to see if you fit in any of their roles, and earn the title again. This includes weyrsingers, assistant candidatemasters, assistant weyrlingmasters, watchrider, and searchriders. While your dragon won't stop searching individuals, it will be up the player to establish themselves among their new Weyr and their Wing as a search rider, and get tapped to do Search instead of sweeps, or sent to guard the local holds, etc.

    11. Candidates do not get to transfer! Upon being Searched they know what they're committing themselves too, and since they were Searched by a certain Weyr, the Weyr might not be keen on releasing what they rightfully found. If a Candidate wishes to live elsewhere they either need to quit Candidacy (and become Stands Only at the other Weyr) =or= participate in Candidate Swaps and hope they Impress at their Weyr of choice.

    12. Children under 14 do not get to make transfer requests. The only way for them to transfer is if they are part of another character's family.

    13. Characters might not get an immediate response. Fable and I need to discuss OOCly, and ICly the Weyrleadership needs to confer among themselves, and see if there's an opening, or a need.

    14. Character requests can be denied! If someone is asking for transfership just for the lulz, then they'll probably be denied. If someone is asking for a legitimate reason, then they'll get more consideration. If you pissed off the Weyrleadership, that could be good or bad, depending. If everyone is suddenly leaving the Weyr, then the Weyrs might need to put holds or stops on who gets to be let go. If one Weyr is overwhelmed by x color, they may deny accepting another, etc. Every response will be replied to ICly. It could be a long answer, it could be a short one. It could happen within hours of the request, it could take weeks or months.

    15. If a character's transfer request is approved, they will get anywhere from 48-hours to a sevenday to pack and get out. The Weyrleadership makes the final call. If Fable and I forget to mention this, assume they get 5 days.

    16. Wing-to-Wing Transfers are not open at this time! Why? Because that is something only the Weyrleadership signs off on. Additionally, Wings need to be stable and moving riders around frequently could hurt the individuals Wings. OOCly, I don't want cliques to form, or friends putting in requests for only their friends, etc. Once we house your dragon in a Wing, expect to be there until you rot. Don't like your Wingleader? Deal with it or pray they get demoted. Pern has bigger problems.

The Transfer Request Form

Please remember to keep the above rules in mind! We will try to honor all requests, but we cannot guarantee anything, and ICly there might be some factors that play into the request.

These requests are binding! Once approved, you and your character are going to have to deal with the consequences, so think this through before applying. We're not trying to stomp anyone's fun, but a Weyr demands loyalty. Wingriders need to rely on one another being there -- and while they are flexible and obviously Threadfall can take out riders here and there -- if their Wing is constantly changing, or numbers start dropping, that could be bad for everyone!

In some cases, your character might need to wait x-amount of time before the transfer goes through, or be requested to tie up any loose ends. The Weyrleaders will inform their riders of any tasks that need completed before they are allowed to leave. This is not meant as punishment but simply IC Consequence. This isn't meant to pick on anyone, but if Masterharper or Fable's characters think ICly something needs to happen first, they will say as much. This is also meant to help build in shop fun!

Last but not least, if your request is rejected, it will NOT count as a transfer slot. If you request with the same character again, and it is rejected a second time, it WILL count as a transfer slot. We will make sure ICly the reason for the rejection is clear but this is also to ensure that we're not getting the same character request over, and over, and over again. If we reject the request ICly, there will be a good reason.

Please don't think your character can just cut and run! Whether the request got denied, or you just don't want to deal with this, please know that dragonriding is still considered an honor. Candidates should be coming to the Weyr and committing themselves -- coming in just with dreams of leaving isn't acceptable. The books never really had a problem with riders committing to the cause -- and maybe that was part of the book's fantasy. Like before, riders in a Weyr must stay in the Weyr unless you transfer out officially this way.

Please remember this is all meant to be good ICly fun! None of this is personal!

All that said, if you have characters that want out, or characters that want in? Well, fill in the application below as your character and we can see what the Weyrleadership says!

[I, [INSERT FULL CHARACTER NAME], officially request transfership....

From: [This is where your character currently resides.]
To: [This is where your character wants to go] Choose: High Reaches Weyr, Western Weyr, or Released From Service

When: Please indicate how soon they wish to transfer. ASAP, in a sevenday, a month, etc. Generally speaking, riders know that transfers don't happen immediately.

What Wing Are You In? If not a rider, put N/A.

Dragon Name & Color: If not a rider, put N/A

Rank:

How Many Turns of Service: How many Turns have they been in the Weyr? If Unaffiliated put N/A

Who will be going/coming with you? Please list any family members or weyrfolk or riders going/coming with you. If another rider is involved, please have them post a form as well!

If Unaffiliated, have you lived in any other Weyrs before? N/A if not unaffiliated!

Official Transfer Letter: [Please have your character write their respective Weyrleader either in hopes of terminating their service with the Weyr, or a request to join their Weyr if they are unaffiliated. This letter can be as long or short as your rider would make it. Some things to keep in mind would be that this is one of the first or last things the Weyrleader's would see -- and they are under no obligation to have to honor your request. This is your character's chance to convince them to look into the matter and grant your request.]

Once this request is submitted, please do not edit it! The next thing to do is to simply wait for an IC response. We will quote you with the Weyrleadership's response in an official letter! The Weyrleader's might have comments, or they might not. Until told otherwise, riders should carry on with their usual day-to-day until their request is processed and looked at and answered.

OOCly, Masterharper and Fable will run through this list periodically. No guarantees how long the requests will take but we'll try to at least peek at it now and then. We will go in order of requests received, and quote you in this thread.

I, Adi, officially request transfership....

From: Nowhere, really. Everywhere?
To: Western Weyr

When: ASAP

What Wing Are You In? N/A

Dragon Name & Color: Blue Mazamath

Rank: None

How Many Turns of Service: N/A

Who will be going/coming with you? Just me!  And Maz, of course.  And our flits, if those count?

If Unaffiliated, have you lived in any other Weyrs before? I grew up at Ista!

Official Transfer Letter:
Hi,
I've never had to write anything really important before, so I hope this okay.  Maz and I have been unaffiliated since we graduated, and I thought we would be forever.  But Thread made that a lot harder, and I guess I thought we could ignore it and everything would be fine.  We're just one rider and dragon, right?  It can't make that much difference, and I've never been any good at fighting, anyway.  But after what happened with Aerden, I think that maybe it does, and I should try.

Adi, Mazamath, & co --

You are and your dragon are welcome to call Western Weyr your new home! We do ask that you commit to serving at our Weyr for 10 Turns, minimum -- please consider this before you arrive and get settled. It may sound like a long time, especially for those who might be used to the freedom Pern's riders used to enjoy, but you may consider your options again after those 10 Turns have been served.

Honestly, Pern needs every dragonrider it can spare. You may think there is nothing one pair can do, but one rider can save countless lives. You and your dragon will be heroes, not just to the people of Pern, but to your new wingmates, your new companions, and your new family. One pair can ease the burden and stress of an entire Flight, by being able to share the burden that is Threadfall. The more riders and dragons we have up there, the better. Coming back to the Weyr in our greatest time of need is no small feat -- thank you.

You and Mazamath will want for nothing while here. Think about whether or not you would prefer to be house in a traditional stone weyr or a beach side wallow. We have no expectation of putting you up into Threadfall immediately -- if you need training, we will provide that, and ensure you're well prepared. Remember, you won't be fighting Thread alone -- we will be there to help you through the hard times, and celebrate the good ones.

Feel free to arrive at your leisure within the month -- bring what you can, and if you need help moving your things, we can provide that, too.

Upon your arrival, feel free to reach out to Weyrsecond K'tos and brown Minoth, Weyrwoman Second Elysia and gold Sheyoth, or our Headman Casgar.

Clear Skies,
Weyrleader R'mor of bronze Junenth

I, K'mar, officially request transfership....

From: Unaffilated
To: Western Weyr

When: ASAP

What Wing Are You In? N/A

Dragon Name & Color: Brown Vith

Rank: N/A

How Many Turns of Service: N/A

Who will be going/coming with you? Just K'mar and Vith

If Unaffiliated, have you lived in any other Weyrs before? Yes, K'mar was born and raised in Western Weyr

Official Transfer Letter: To R'mor, Hestina, and anyone else this might concern,

K'mar and Vith are back and ready for action! We've been gone for about 9 Turns doing our own thing, but once Thread returned we came right back home to help out. While running gauze and bandages for the healers and carrying heavy things to and fro is nice, we'd really like to join back up with a wing and help you all out in the air as well. We've been pretty active while we were away so we're in good shape, but we might be a little rusty on the calls so a little practice wouldn't go amiss. With everything happening at that hatching over at High Reaches, we figured you need all the help you can get! Let us know if you want us back, we'd be really happy if you decide you do. Especially Vith, he's been dying to get up in the air and fight since Thread returned.

Respectfully yours,
K'mar and Vith

Super late but I know we had talked about being accepted long before now...

The letter was returned within the sevenday by a little brown firelizard. It was written in fine script and sealed with the Weyrsecond's seal.
---

May this letter find you in good health, K'mar of brown Vith!

Many congratulations to you and yours. It is always good to have a missing face return to his seat at the table--Western Weyr officially accepts your transfer back to the Weyr.

You are welcome here as soon as are you able. If you believe it will take longer than a sevenday to gather your belongings or finish your affairs, please notify us. If you need aid moving your belongings, do not hesitate to ask; wingriders and workers are more than happy to aid in your transfer.

Once you arrive, please have Vith notify Minoth. If I am presently unavailable, you may seek out the Headman or his Assistant, and we shall ensure you a comfortable transition. You will likely need a few sevendays of remedial training before we place you officially in a Wing or send you up against The Enemy.

Welcome back, wingrider K'mar.

Clear Skies!

I, Thren, officially request transfership....

From: Unaffiliated
To: High Reaches Weyr

When: As soon as possible.

What Wing Are You In? Not yet applicable.

Dragon Name & Color: Bronze Rixth.

Rank: Wingrider

How Many Turns of Service: Not applicable.

Who will be going/coming with you? No one.

If Unaffiliated, have you lived in any other Weyrs before? Benden Weyr.

Official Transfer Letter:

Quote:
Weyrleader D'mon,

Despite our current lack of affiliation, Rixth and I have tirelessly devoted our adult lives to the protection and assistance of the Pernese people. Though we have chosen to accomplish this without firestone, I would argue that the aid we have provided has been just as valuable at least half as valuable as the services of a High Reaches wingrider.

But I am not here to argue. Though my dragon has been content to operate freely with me these past fourteen turns, recent circumstances have left him anxious to settle. While I initially balked at the idea, there is little I can deny him. I have come to see the good we could do fighting Thread, and I am looking forward to wearing my knots with pride once more.

Sorry for missing this! Approved!

T'en--

If you wish to devote your life fighting Thread for the People of Pern, than you shall be welcome into the Weyr. That said, the fact that you feel you must argue about your Turns of service to the people of Pern, or lack there of, to the very Weyrleader you now wish to serve does give me great pause and reservation. Do you truly wish to be one of us? Think wisely and be truthful to yourself.

If you come to the Weyr, you will be one of High Reaches and taken into the fold. That said, you do not get to change your mind over how you serve; you do not get to abandon your post if our ways chafe your lifestyle; you do not get to make the shots because you think you know better. Put your passions into destroying the Enemy, not into tearing down stable foundations. You made your choices when Thread returned, just as you've made your choice now.

Come to High Reaches anytime within the next sevenday, and ask for Padmia, Olliah, or Y'mar. They will be able to get your weyr assignment, and answer any questions you have. You and Rixth's knowledge will be tested, and you will be put in remedial training until we're satisfied you can work cohesively with any of our Wings.

We need ever fighter we can get, and appreciate your sacrifice.

Clear Skies--

Official Transfer Letter:
Weyrleader D’mon, Weyrwoman Zheria, and any esteemed gaze this letter may reach,

Though Alluith and I have found ourselves happy with duties as a ranger, the time of us denying the calling to defend Pern’s skies is coming to an end. Twelve long turns have gone by since I left Benden Weyr, and I hope there might be a place for us in High Reaches once we’ve caught up. My sister calls High Reaches home, and I can’t deny that I would rather fight where my only living family resides.

Respectfully yours,

R'tyb,

The Weyr could always use a new fighting pair, and I was pleased to receive your request. Benden Weyr is a good Weyr, even if you left it--they are proud of their history and tradition, and I hope you might be cut of the same cloth.

But Benden no longer leads the way--and High Reaches Weyr is glad to welcome you home.

You are welocome as soon as you are able to arrive. Padmia has been made aware of your arrival, and a weyr has been reserved for you and Alluith. Olliah and Y'mar should be able to assist you with your assignments, and help answer any questions you have. Alluith and your knowledge will be tested, and you will likely be put in remedial training until we're satisfied you can you be placed among the fighting Wings.

Anali,

Your request for transfership has been approved. We appreciate your interest in both our Weyr and a desire to take up the mantel of duty. Every rider is needed, whether it be at High Reaches Weyr or any of the other Weyrs of Pern. Banshidheth and you shall be most welcome, indeed.

You shall be welcome in four days hence, as we need some time to prepare a weyrledge fit for a queen rider. Upon your arrival, Zheria, or more likely, Olliah shall assist you with your assignments, and help answer any questions you might have. We shall be certain to celebrate the return of an illustrious queen and her rider, and welcome you back to High Reaches Weyr.
