It was only thanks to an unknown woman in OASIS that he was saved. Even then, it was a whole other kind of pain to admit to this person, masked or otherwise, that he was truly a slave for years. While he has gained the joy of being free, he's scarred by his past experiences. They'll haunt him for some time.
