[SRP] the twins (heze and ala with Ver)

Ver hisses lightly looking down at two foxes that had fallen asleep in Eventide land. They were both blue with wing like markings on them. As far as Ver knew they were both strangers to the land but they were sleeping so peacefully that Ver did not wish to wake them. The guardian shifted its weight and turned back and looked behind itself. There were no other tribe members around . Still so young it did not know if it should wake the strangers and ask them to leave or wait for them to wake and find out about them. It decided on the later as that seemed more like something Seth would have advised. It moved back a respectful distance as it did not wish to raise their ire should they have never seen a guardian before. The day passed slowly and Ver was glad it was a day that it had no additional tasks assigned to it. Ver yawned. It was a going to be a long day. Every so often they stirred and Ver got ready to give its introduction. Sadly it had longer yet to wait.

Heze slowly opened his eyes and saw large clawed feet. His eyes slowly followed the leg up while his heart rate increased. His tail moved to cover his sister out of instinct. The creature was simply standing there and staring at him. He watched it nod it’s head slowly. Why did it do that? Was it not going to attack? Did it not eat foxes? It was clearly something that could eat meat. Taking a slow breathe he noticed it was still standing there awkwardly and not coming closer or attacking at all. His ear flicked as he continued to study it. It seemed to be uncomfortable as it shifted its weight several times as he kept studying it. It still hadn’t spoken. Was it waiting for him for something? Not certain how to proceed he tapped his sister several times and whispered her name into her ear. His tone was flat which was normal for her but odd for him. He was sure she understood the significance of this when she tensed but did not open her eyes.

Alaraph waited until her brother tapped and did not remove his paw. That was a sign she should see something. Lifting her head she instantly saw what he was after. There was a large blue lizard creature staring at them. “unusual. I see why the need to rouse me.” She stole a quick glance at her brother his eyes were staring at the creature still. He didn’t blink or move. So he was studying it? “Thoughts?” She turned her own attention to it. It shifted every so often. Perhaps it was growing agitated? Or perhaps not. It nodded slowly to her. The wings were large and held tightly to its sides. Was it anxious? That was an interesting thought, that such a large creature could actually be bothered by two foxes such as she and her brother. She narrowed her eyes at the creature. She was not going to play some game. If it could speak then she wished it to do so. Answers were needed her not guess work.

Heze saw the look and knew what his sister was thinking. It wasn’t hard given the icy look she was giving the creature. The longer he studied it the more convinced he was this creature was not a threat. It seemed off put by their staring like any fox would. It never attacked and it even greeted each of them with a nod. “I think if it was going to harm us then it would have done so. It was waiting when I woke up and I am uncertain as to how long it has been looming. Non-aggressive posturing and patience.” Heze finished his short spieal to his sister having never removed his eyes from the creature though he had blinked a few times. It had not moved from where it was either and watched the two tilting it’s head when each spoke. Was it waiting to be addressed? Heze was almost tempted to smile at that thought. “What is your name?” he asked the creature directly nodding at it slightly to indicate he was speaking to it and not his sister again.

“Verr.” Ver nodded it’s head deeply to both of them “Waking you wasss not.. Did not ssseem kind.” It decided it should explain it’s purpose here to them to help with the situation. “Thisss iss Eventide landsss. Arrre you lossst, trrraveling orr sssomething elsse?” It was concerned somewhat by it’s hiss. Ver did not wish for these foxes to be scared of it. It knew that it was quite large compared to the blue foxes but they did not seem to be fleeing from it which Ver took as a good sign. Ver watched as the two foxes shared a glance at one another. Ver did not understand how they seemed to understand each other so well. Ver had seen foxes in the tribe interact but it was not like this. Foxes were strange at times and these two more so then the others.

“We did not know this was tribe lands.” Alaraph took lead. “Is there a punishment for trespass without knowledge?” She watched as the cre.. Ver shook it’s head indicating that there was no such punishment. That was good. Then this tribe was at least neutral and not hostile in nature. “My brother is Heze and I am Alaraph. We are traveling to seek a home to live in.” She watched the creature nod and shift its weight to turn slightly. So this place was open to strangers seeking a home? Or was the creature simply leaving? She continued to lay until it became clear the creature was waiting for she and her brother. Standing up with Heze she let him take lead right behind the creature. Should he be attacked she would go for the throat of what was after him. She saw his ears tilt back toward her. Should he hear something sneaking up behind he would turn and attack. It was their system. She liked having a system. It made her feel safer.

Heze followed Ver while his sister was following him. He was listening to each step on the leaves of the forest as they went deeper in. He started to smell other foxes quite quickly and soon noticed they were actually being flanked by a fox with black hair and wearing strange green garments. She only followed parallel for a moment before coming out. She ignored Haze and his sister and instead walked right up and next to Ver. He watched as the creature dipped it’s head at her and listened as she spoke about doing a flight around the tribe later and letting her know where the game was plentiful and where it was thin for better management. Heze had to admit he was surprised though he supposed it made sense. If there was a growing tribe here then making sure they didn’t overhunt was important. Still he was surprised the large creature was taking orders from such a small fox. Once she was done speaking she moved away again and out of sight. He had to admit he was relieved he didn’t have to answer a million questions about his presence though it was odd that she never asked a single one.

Ver guided the foxes to the cave. It noticed that a few curious stares fell on it before the foxes returned to their tasks. He saw a few call out greetings and nodded to them. Still it wanted to bring the new foxes to Ion as soon as possible. He could decide what to do with them and Ver could get on with its next task of checking the tribe lands for where the game was at and if there were some areas that were starting to be over hunted. Ver lead them through the twists and turns of the cave’s before stopping before a meeting place. “Here pleassse.” It indicated the place with a wave of it’s claw. It was relieved when both foxes stepped in to wait. “I ssshall rreturrn with Ion.” Ver quickly moved to find the tribe leader and let him know of the new arrivals.

Heze wasn’t sure what to expect when Ver left but it did not take long for a vixen to walk in and sit down and speak to he and his sister. Heze had to correct himself. It was a male fox. As soon as the other fox started to speak that was clear. The male introduced himself as Ion Fortuna leader of this fledgling tribe of Eventide who worshiped the night but seemed to be at a loss as to foxes who could assist in day shift work. Ion was curious if the pair were amiable to tribe life as Ver had brought them to him and didn’t think they were disreputable foxes. It was clear the other fox was quite forward and not holding anything back. They were a small tribe so getting more members was boon for them, but it would also mean more protection for he and his sister as well a steady source of food as it wouldn’t just be a hit or miss based on their luck. It was a whole tribe hunting and managing the lands. Those with skill were welcome as to fill in places where the tribe was lacking.

Alaraph blinked several times thorough the explanation. So they could have a home here which was safe as it had more foxes and even a Ver whatever that was. and in exchange for living here as part of the tribe they would get quite a lot. Still more surprising was that their rules were quite basic not to harm another fox, to not steal from one another, no killing, all simple basic things that Alaraph knew were part of the basic socially acceptable structure that held sane fox society together. During their chat She saw Ion’s fangs and inquired about them. It turned out Ion and some other members of the tribe were fox’s who fed on blood. She at first flinched at the idea but he seemed to not mind and waved it off saying they were not needed for blood as there were other foxes who were feeding both he and the others of their own accord and blood was not taken from the unwilling. That was a relief. Ion did warn that breaking tribe rules would lead to expulsion from the tribe and banishment from tribe lands. Ion stated he would not push them for an answer now as they had arrived and more or less been forced to a corner upon their arrival. Ion stated they were welcome to spend a moon in Eventide land and make up their mind at the start of the next new moon. With that he left stating he had other duties and they could ask any fox or Ver and they would assist the pair.

Ver was called back to the siblings latter it seemed they had been brought food by Seth and would be staying for a time. Ver was told to watch over them and aid them when they needed something. It was not a month later when Ver had to fetch Ion to listen to the siblings ask to join the tribe and become tribe members in full and not just guests. The two new tribe members would have much to learn about the tibe but Ver was glad to have two more to see often and would gladly protect them. Perhaps it was the coloration Ver had but it felt close to the siblings and looked forward to seeing them during the day.
