Garvyn typically didn't make it a habit of doing work for pay. She made due on her own and helped others of her own free will -- but if the Forgemaster insisted, she could always give her coin to others who needed it if she saw nothing useful to buy. His work looked to be of high quality, and a sturdy, well-built weapon would be good to have on her side. As someone who used to be a knight herself, she didn't have any second thoughts about taking the job to hunt down the Dark Knight -- someone who used a title like that for evil only twisted the meaning of the word. Knights were noble. Honorable. They used their strength and their willingness to fight to stand up for those who needed them -- not to harm and kill the innocent.

Over a simple, jealous rivalry, too. It made her stomach churn with distaste. With any luck, she and Urvogel would be able to put a stop to his terror and leave him alive -- but if it came down to it, she'd do what was necessary.

Urvogel remained perched on Garvyn's back during their journey to find the Dark Knight, ready to fly up and get a head start so his bonded would know what was coming -- but in the distance he spotted he spotted another soquili; one that didn't match the Forgemaster's description of the Dark Knight. He flapped his wings a little, getting Garvyn's attention. "Up ahead -- a green stallion, from the looks of it. What should we do?"

Garvyn's ears perked up, pointed in the direction of the stallion Urvogel was pointing out. "Lets see what he knows. The Forgemaster mentioned a few others might be trying to hunt down the Dark Knight -- he could be one of them. If not, we'll warn him to steer clear. We're close to where the Forgemaster said he might be, so it isn't safe until we deal with him." She made her way towards the stallion, bowing her head in respect and as a greeting.

"Greetings. My name is Garvyn, and this is my familiar, Urvogel. Are you here on the Forgemaster's behalf, as we are?"

Brandnetel had happened upon the Forge while travelling with Ullume. He hadn't expected to really enjoy travelling with the mare, especially since they had gotten off on the wrong hoof and had constant stepped on one another's toes in the beginning of their journey, but the more time he spent with her, the more he found himself enjoying her quirks. Although Ullume was a perfectly capable mare, he couldn't help but find himself wanting to protect her from harms way in whatever capacity he could. Though he had acted disinterested about the job board when in Ullume's presence, discouraging her from trying to turn in any of the more physically demanding tasks, Brandnetel was actually quite inclined to earn some coin for spending at the Forge. The stallion knew he could use some weapons in case anything got too out of hand.

After getting the run down of the mission, Brandnetel couldn't help the frown that was no doubt resting on his features. From the sound of it, the Dark Knight was nothing more than a nuisance, someone bringing disgrace to the hard earned title of a knight. While travelling with Ullume, he had met several soquili that had brandished the title with grace and dignity, and the Black Knight sounded nothing of the sort. It put a sour taste in his mouth, to know all those noble individuals he had met were having their name tarnished by such a selfish sort. The distaste only fueled the stallion in his determination to seek the Knight out and teach him a lesson he no doubt needed long ago.

"Do we really need to fight him? I'm sure he can be reasoned with," Vega pipped up as they walked together. The hummingbird had been rather silent as the pair walked towards where they would, no doubt, encounter the Black Knight that the Forgemaster wanted dealt with. She was a sweet bird and of a caring disposition, and the thought of hurting another didn't sit well with her. Vega looked to Brandnetel, the worry poorly hidden in her gaze. "Maybe he just needs to sit down and talk things out?"

Brandnetel shook his head. "Soquili like the Black Knight can't be reasoned with. They're doing this on purpose, to be vindictive. I'm sure they think they're in the right on the matter, too." Brand's brow creased as his frowned deepened. He hoped to come across the Knight sooner rather than later and teach them a lesson.

Vega kept an eye out for other, doing her best to be as helpful as she could be. She didn't have much of a chance to do any real damage in a fight, but she could at least be a look out for Brandnetel, should he need it. Vega's wings flapped a little quicker in excitement as she saw another soquili and her companion approaching. "I think there may be others here to do the same quest, Brandnetel!"

The green stallion gave pause, turning his head and looking off in the direction Vega had pointed him in. He gave the duo a curious look, staying on guard just in case. The stallion remained silent as the mare and her familiar greeted him, bowing his own head in a quick greeting. He was trying to be better about not judging others from the get go since he had started travelling with Ullume, but he still struggled with not being quick to judge. "... Greetings." Before he could get much else out, Vega was already informing Garvyn and Urvogel of their quest.

"Oh, yes! How lovely to meet you! My name is Vega, and this is Brandnetel. We're out searching for the Black Knight, are you out here looking for the fellow as well?" Vega practically beamed in excitement, happy to meet new people, and friendly ones at that!

"... Ahem..." The stallion cleared his throat, trying to recover from the rather energetic introduction Vega had given. Brandnetel wasn't sure if he enjoyed Vega's company or not sometimes. She didn't seem to get the idea that not everyone had the best intentions... Though he didn't sense much threat from Garvyn and Urvogel. They just had the presence of capable fighters. "As Vega said, we are here on behalf of the Forgemaster. If you approached us seeking a temporary alliance, I'm willing. This foe sounds like one that would be better to face with numbers on our side."

Garvyn smiled kindly at the little hummingbird's enthusiasm. She seemed friendly, but her disposition didn't seem the type to take part in battle often -- or at all. That was fine; she and Urvogel could work with that, and the stallion appeared like he could hold his own. Antlers made for good weapons, and sometimes Garvyn wished she had a set of her own. "Agreed; we would be honored to fight alongside you. An alliance would be beneficial for all of us."

Urvogel made a mental note to himself to keep a close eye on Vega and protect him from harm; if he proved to be a skilled fighter, he would back off, but he wanted to play it safe. Coming out of this fight with the loss of an ally was not something Urvogel wanted to see happen -- but if they could help teach the small one to protect himself, then they could all come out of this a little stronger. "We've no doubt the Dark Knight is nearby; this location looks like the one the Forgemaster described. I'm certain if we head a little further south, we'll find him." He looked to each of his companions, both new and old. "Are we ready to continue?"

Brandnetel was a tad relieved to hear that Garvyn and her companion would be willing to let him and Vega join their hunt for the Dark Knight. While he was sure he could have handled the fight on his own, Vega's presence worried him. The hummingbird, as far as he knew, didn't have a mean bone in her body, and definitely wasn't one to have ever had to fight in any previous conflicts. There would be too much pressure on keeping her safe and it could easily make him lose focus and provided the Dark Knight ample opportunity to make Brandnetel pay dearly for his distraction. Now that there were additional bodies in this fight, Brandnetel wouldn't have to focus solely on keeping Vega out of harm's way.

"Agreed. I'm glad we can work together for this. It'll make things much easier." Brand's eyes flickered briefly to Vega, the relief and loss of tension from his body posture nearly palpable.

He motioned to Vega to follow after him on her tiny wings. "We're ready."

Vega flew beside Brandnetel, a twinkle in her eyes. She was so delighted to meet new individuals, and Garvyn and Urvogel were so kind! It was such a pleasure to meet creatures with good dispositions; they always reminded her of her own children, but this was no time to be sentimental! Vega was meant to be on an adventure of her own now that her kids were out of the nest, and that meant she needed to be focused on the present!

She nodded her head at Urvogle's inquiry, a bright smile on her beak. "Oh yes, absolutely!"

The bird carefully flitted beside Brandnetel as the group continued onward. Hopefully this Dark Knight fellow wouldn't be too terribly cruel as the Forgemaster had suggested. Perhaps he just needed a mother's wisdom to get him turned around on the right hoof!

Urvogel kept close to Vega during their flight, albeit a little higher so he could act as a scout so he could warn the others if he spotted the Dark Knight coming. Of course, he didn't expect the Knight to come at them from behind. He should have, and perhaps if he had been more attentive, he'd have been able to warn them sooner. He heard him first, a snapping of a twig that his sharp hearing picked up, and he jerked his head around to look to see him lurking close behind. "Behind!" he shouted out below to the others.

Garvyn startled, whirling around just in time to see the Dark Knight descend upon them; she was able to jump out of the way just in time, but the surprise attack left her off balance and her retaliating blow only just grazed the Knight. "Stop this!" she demanded harshly, but the Dark Knight didn't seem interested in listening. He snorted angrily beneath his dark armor, rearing back, ready to attack them again. Garvyn braced herself, preparing herself for his next move, no matter the direction it took.

The cry from Urvogle quickly pulled the stallion's attention and he reacted as quickly as he could to it, whirling around to face the cruel-hearted knight. It was just barely that he was able to avoid the knight's attack that was aimed at the group. He quickly glanced to the pastel bird, and ordered her to stay back. "Vega, you need to stay safe!"

Once his footing was sure, Brand went for an opportunity to strike the Dark Knight, aiming for any tender spot could with his antlers. The armor posed a challenge, offering few spots unprotected, but Brandnetel would make do with what there was. He grunted as he struck the stallion in the side, hoping to do more the knock the wind out of him, and he quickly retreated a short distance away, eyes constantly scanning the battleground for threats.

Vega hadn't at all been anticipating the Dark Knight to approach them, and seeing Brandnetel, Garvyn, and Urvogel react so quickly to the mere snapping of a branch was shocking to say the least. The stallion that opposed them said nothing, there were no words exchanged, no chance to simply talk things over, it was straight in to combat. Vega knew she was of no assistance here, and she frantically sought out a place for her to remain safe, but close enough to watch the skirmish should they require help or first aid. At the very least, she might be able to collect herb for them to use if it was needed. The bird nodded quickly, flying off to safety, away from the Dark Knight for the time being, but close enough to still worriedly observe.

Relieved to see Vega seek shelter, Urvogel was glad he could keep his focus on the battle instead of protecting the little hummingbird. He kept to the skies, circling above and looking for openings where he could swoop down and dig in with his claws -- or cause a distraction, should one be needed. He didn't want to get in the way and be crushed between two colliding soquili, so for the time being he would keep at the ready and wait for the right moment.

The encounter ramped up quickly; Garvyn kept her eyes on the Knight, circling him slowly and watching his movements carefully. Thankfully, the entirety of his body wasn't armored, but enough of it was that it was going to make this fight difficult. They would have to attack strategically if they wanted their blows to really count. As soon as her companion backed away, Garvyn darted in so as to not let the Knight have a moment to catch his breath, She kicked out her feet at the Knight's exposed underbelly; knocking the wind out of him. The Dark Knight snarled and turned, ramming his head into her side to send her stumbling back and away from him, trying to keep her footing.

Brandnetel focused his attention on the Dark Knight, wanting to make quick work of this nuisance. It had been made clear that the stallion wasn’t interested in reasoning, and he and Garvyn weren’t going to waste their time trying to end this altercation with words.

The Knight managed to land a staggering blow on Brand, and he grunted as the wind was knocked out of him. He gave a shake of his antlered head to sort himself out and narrowed his eyes at the opposing stallion. The blow had been annoying, sure, but he could keep fighting and he would deliver a blow that paid the Dark Knight back twofold.

Brandnetel watched as Garvyn delivered another blow to their foe and her familiar swooped down to peck and tear at the stallion with his beak and teeth. He carefully walked about the source of the conflict, waiting for his chance to strike. Aha! Finally he saw his chance!

“Yield,” he demanded of the Dark Knight as he landed a tough blow against him, but it was to no avail. “Yield!” Brandnetel dealt another harsh blow to the stallion that had abandoned the true code of a knight long ago. It was infuriating to him, to think of all the other soquili that had been chased away by this beast of a soquili. The leafy-haired stallion charged forward once more, delivering their opponent another rough blow, the hardest hitting of all the hits he had landed thus far. The Dark knight seemingly crumpled after Brandnetel stepped away. Blood stained his antlers. Though the corrupted stallion was still breathing, it was labored and he showed signs of great discomfort. It was quite possible a rib or two had been broken.

Brandnetel looked down at the sad figure and shook his head. “Disgraceful,” he muttered and turned away from the sight. He looked to Garvyn and Urvogel and bowed his head in gratitude. “Thank you for allowing Vega and I to join you.”

As if on queue, the hummingbird returned to Brand’s side, though less chipper and full of enthusiasm than she had been before. “I-I’m glad it seems your fight went well. Did you all come out uninjured?”

Luck had not been with Garvyn for the duration of this battle -- she was lucky, then, that they had run into and teamed up with Brandnetel and his hummingbird friend. When the Dark Knight fell, battered and beaten, Garvyn let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. Brandnetel was formidable; she couldn't help but be glad he was on their side. The Knight had gotten the better of her from the beginning -- the surprise attack, the armored body; the tips of her toes were hardened like hooves, but the underside of her feet were soft. They didn't do well against an armored foe like this one. Antlers, on the other hand -- it seems they serve him well. Maybe she would use the coin they earned from this to buy herself a weapon after all. "It was an honor," she replied, bowing her head in return. When Vega spoke up, she turned to look at her with a kind smile. "A little worse for wear, I believe -- but nothing that we cannot recover from. The Dark Knight was no match for us, especially against your friend. After a good night's rest, we'll be on the mend in no time."

Urvogel stretched his wings and landed beside the group. He stared at the fallen stallion in silence, watching closely to make sure he didn't decide to continue the fight with a second wind. He seemed down for the count, though, and he relaxed. They had all done well and taken down their foe quickly -- it would be a learning experience, that much was certain. After the fall of their home and the scattering of the knights, the pair of them had been left without weapons -- and without most of their belongings in general. Having to start anew in this strange new land was difficult, but they were managing. They would manage. "Garvyn and I would be glad to have you accompany us back to see the Forgemaster, if you like. It seems only fitting that we return together." He nodded his thanks to the pair as well, glad for their help.

Brandnetel simply nodded his head when Urvogel inquired about accompanying him and Vega back to the Forge. "That would be agreeable with me, and I'm certain Vega would appreciate more company." He glanced at the hummingbird to see that she was beaming. While he hadn't known Vega long, he had come to understand that she was a social creature, and while Brandnetel was capable of conversation, he tended to lean more towards introversion and self-reflection, making him a poor fit to Vega's company.

The stallion was just happy to earn enough coin to purchase a finely made weapon. Though he had his antlers, a sharp blade would be beneficial while he traveled with Ullume. When he returned to her side he would be prepared for the worst; if anything happened, he would be ready.

Vega flew happily beside Garvyn, happy to chat with the mare while they made their way back to the Forge together. It was a shame the Dark Knight had been unwilling to talk things out, but she supposed there were always a few bad apples in a bunch, and it was incredibly fortunate that no one had been seriously hurt from the affair. Perhaps this adventure would be enough to quell her wanderlust and she'd be able to happily return home to her family. In fact it might have even been too much of an adventure for her... Vega couldn't imagine leaving the nest for a long while after all that had come to pass. At least she would have some wonderful stories to share with her family.
