Being in such a remote part of the Kawani lands, The Forgemaster has had to learn to fend for himself. However, sometimes he needs a little extra help and relies on the local plants to create potions and salves to cure his ailments.

Goal: Find the herbs and mix them together to make a salve!
Instructions: Roll 3d6 and match them to the list below. These are the ingredients you've chosen for your salve!

  1. You pick some sweet berries. They're blue in colour and have a funny after taste and they make your tongue tingle. (+1 potency )
  2. You find some odd shaped leaves. The smell musty and you aren't game enough to try but how much harm could they really do? (-2 potency)
  3. You pick some clear water from a nearby spring. It's cool and is the cleanest thing you've ever tasted. (+5 potency)
  4. Your pick some purple flowers. In the back of your mind, you swear you recall being warned about them as a foal... (-5 potency)
  5. You choose some aloe, soothing and cool. (+2 potency)
  6. You choose some seaweed growing in the river. It doesn't have much of a negative effect but it's slimy and the taste is off putting. (-1 potency)

Now that you've chosen your ingredients you need to make your salve! Roll 1d6 and match your result below!
Odd: You have absolutely no idea what you're doing and you spill half your salve while mixing it! (-5 potency)
Even: Your a natural! Even if your ingredients were questionable, everything seems to have come together nicely! (+5 potency)

Reward: Tally up your score and match to the results below!
0 - 5 potency: Your "medicine" leaves the Forgemaster stuck in bed for days violently ill. He prays for death but also fears it has truly come for him. While he's sleeping, you manage to slip a gold piece from his coin purse. You did warn him that you weren't that great at identifying herbs! (+1 gold piece)
6 - 10: The potion doesn't seem to have any effect at all. He knows you tried your best, however, and he grants you a reward. (+2 gold pieces)
11 - 15: The potion has a pretty positive effect! While it won't solve all his problems, it does invigorate him and give him plenty of energy to get through the day without any groans or sighs! (+3 gold pieces)
16 - 20: This is the greatest potion The Forgemaster has ever had in his life! He swears you've created the elixir of life. (+5 gold pieces)

Now Nightling wouldn't call herself the best with herbs, but she has been using them for a while for minor things. When the message went out through the lands that the Forgemaster was in need of potions and salves, Nightling gathered what she had in her home and headed out. Leaving the small bowl like valley behind her hooves taking her quickly to the ground where this Forge Master could be located. While the journey wasn't the quickest of ones, she was not without company. Soaring over head, perching in trees as to not get out of her mistress's sight a blue and color splotched crow cawed.

"What makes you think you can help him?" The crow asked in a raspy caw. "Surely there are better healers out there then you." As wise as the crow could be, Greta was often times questioning the mare.

Nightling stopped to look up at the crow with a teal eye. She wasn't sure if she were up to the task, but she was going to give it her best shot. What was the worst that could happen? Besides... Making the stallion ill and the laughing stock of her herd. An inner voice whispered in her ear that she should just turn back and go no further, but something else told her to continue on. To prove that she was worthy of her skills.

"Greta, must you try and dampen my mood? Pass or fail, I am willing to at least try and ease the suffering." Was Nightling's answer as she moved on, passing the crow and towards the grounds.

Picking up her task and a list of herbs she would be seeking, the dark colored mare headed off to do her work. It didn't seem that complicated.... Then again things never were meant to be easy.

Moving through the trees of the nearby landscape, Nightling came to a bush of ripe blue berries. Lowering her head some she took a nibble off a branch and found that they were sweet. Lapping the juice off her lips, the mare took hold of one of the branches and broke it off. These would help with the salve, if not the salve then it would sweeten a potion. Sticking the sprig into the pouch that laid about her neck, Nightling headed on with her quest.

"One down, two more things to go." Nightling told the crow who gave a bit of a huff and took wing. "Now where are you going? I thought you were going to help."

"Just continue on, I will be back." Was the only reply that Nightling got as Greta passed through the trees and out of sight.

Frowning, Nightling wondered what had gotten into her friend. It wasn't normal for her to be in a sour mood. Not wanting to waste too much time pondering over her friend's mood, Nightling headed off again. When she stopped again she was at a stream. One that was really cold, but the water was crystal clear and as clean as could be. This was perfect for what she need.

Removing a gourd like bottle from her pouch, her magic coming in handy to not upset the other items she carried with her at all times. Pulling the stopper from the small gourd, she dipped it into the stream. The sound of wings made Nightling turn as she was putting the stopper back into place. Greta landed on a branch over head with what looked like old leaves in her beak.

"What are those for?" Mightling asked as Greta dropped to the ground and put the odd leaves on the ground.

"For your creation, they are bitter. But it never hurt someone to balance out the sweetness of one ingredient with one that is bitter." Advised the crow.

Nightling wasn't sure if the Crow was right, but it was the last thing she needed. Picking off the odd leaves, she nearly dropped then when a musty smell hit her nose and the bitter taste rolled over her tongue. She wasn't sure if she could handle these, but if she were to continue she needed them too. Frowning she used her magic to move the leaves over to a flat stone where she was going to put everything together. And hope that it turned out well...

Crushing the berries and leaves together to make a flaky paste, Nightling added a bit of the water to the mix and continued. The paste soon turned into more of a cream. One that would stick to where it was applied, but she feared the potency wouldn't be the greatest. Frowning she wrapped her created in a wide leaf and headed back to the Forge Master's tent. Approaching the Forge Master she handed over the slave she had created, still a frown on her features.

"It won't be the most helpful, but I am hoping that it will at least help in a pinch." Nightling said as she accepted the gold pieces as her reward.

She had to train more, she had once an apprentice in this field. It seemed that even she surpassed the teacher. Shaking her head, Nightling turned to head away, her task complete, be it an almost complete failure. She would take something away from this. Learn her herbs and she might do better the next time.
