It was turning out to be a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly and a little bit of warmth in the air. There were so many sounds! New ones and old. Like the soft sound of his mother's breathing, curled up beside him. And his brother. But Red Leaves Falling couldn't sleep. He'd already been laying down for too long. His little paws were twitching, a shiver racing along his back as he peeked over mama's tail. There, beckoning to him like a moth to flame was his calling. His freedom to explore the world and travel to every destination his paws would carry him!
With a wiggle of excitement (and possibly a whine), Red leaped - sort of an awkward flop over his brother - towards his escape. As soon as his paws were on solid ground, he took off like a bolt of lightning, glancing from side to side only to make sure that no one would stop him (again) or go tattle to mama on him (also again).
Red caught sight of movement and shifted his beeline, away from the den and the watchful eyes of the adults. They tended to put a swift end to his explorations. He yipped softly at his triumphant maneuvering around and continued down the pathway his paws carried him.
The wolf pup ran and ran until his little sides began to burn and his paws slowed, tongue hanging out as he panted to catch his breath. Red eyes blinked owlishly at his surroundings, taking in the rocky outcroppings and bits of forest just beyond them. This was certainly not an area he had ever been! Maybe he had run faster than he'd thought? Tail wagging, he wandered off towards the trees, avoiding challenging rock climbing for the moment. medigel One lost pup, needing to be saved! |D (sorry for double quote...added in Red's certed image instead!)

Serenity Moon didn’t always choose to train every morning—sometimes she’d muuuuuch rather sleep in—but the summer heat was starting to ramp up, and the noise of birds and other creatures stirring awake made it hard to ignore. Once the sun had angled just right to hit her in the face, she was forced to a grudging state of grogginess, grumbling under her breath as she stretched. Well, maybe she could catch her own breakfast this time, Serenity consoled herself. She was big enough! She totally didn’t daydream when hunting lessons were going on! Although it was hard not to. Sometimes the pup wondered about her missing family. Did she have a sister? A brother? Multiple siblings? Did they look like her, or did they look more like Mom? She couldn’t really remember, just a vagueness of white and black, darkness and light and warmth, all which only really began sticking in her head during the trip back to Dawnstar with Dad. Had the moon blessed them as well? No way Mother Moon wasn’t watching over them, wherever they were... I’ve gotta train, Serenity Moon thought and shook off her sleepiness. One day, I’ll find them! Her paws had taken her much further than she thought, and the pup paused to take it in. There were more rocks here than before, so she was probably closer to the base of Bluestone. Then she heard brush breaking, moving further away, and her curiosity was peaked. She caught glimpses of red fur as she darted from shadow to shadow, thinking grassy thoughts; her pale coat made her stick out against the foliage, so she tried to be extra careful when moving. The figure looked familiar, but she wasn’t quite close enough— Snap! Serenity stepped on a thin fallen branch and yelped. Wait, don’t let the situation start awkward!! Own it!! “Hi hello who’s there?” she called, as if she hadn’t tripped over herself in surprise. “This is Dawnstar Border Patrol!”

He was on the prowl. A mighty hunter ready to show his prey who was boss. Each step he took was painfully careful so as not to make any noise unless he alerted his prey. Closer he crept, tail wagging madly and ears erect. His target was in reach and his little muscles began to bunch in preparation to attack...
Snap!
A yelp startled him in to an untimely leap, Red smacked right into the rock the mighty beetle had been resting against. The bug took flight, smacking into his face once before moving out of reaching. The red pup just slumped against the rock, following his prey with his eyes until the sound of someone's voice came from somewhere behind him.
"Dawnstar Border Patrol?" Clambering up on the big (not really) rock to boost himself up, Red sat down and faced the voice coming from the foliage. "Who are you? Border Patrol doesn't normally announce themselves." At least not with him. Maybe he was just unlucky? Or mama told them to just retrieve him whenever they found him. Oooh what if it was one of those mysterious monsters that mama told them about from the Redwoods? That would be so awesome! And a little scary. But they were only in that wood, right? They wouldn't be out this far so close to the mountains. Unless... there was another one?
"I'm Red Leaves Falling of Dawnstar!" He added, narrowing his red gaze to see just a shimmer of something white. Oh crap, what if it was a ghost?!

Oh, good, he was standing on a rock. Much easier to make a grand entrance when she knew where to look. Serenity cleared her throat importantly and leapt onto the scene with the air of an adult who totally knew what she was doing and not just tripped two seconds ago. “Halt, Red Leaves Falling!” She struck a pose. “You’re about to—wait, you’re from Dawnstar. Um.” So she couldn’t pronounce the whole “invading pack territory” schtick. Serenity relaxed momentarily, frowning in thought. “Hold on, I had something for this...” ... “Um...Okay.” Back to posing. “Halt, Red Leaves Falling! You’re about to leave the pack territory!” Serenity proclaimed, drawing closer. “Which would make a lot of wolves worried! So don’t do that!”

Oh. It was a girl. Red just stared. And continued to stare while she seemed to sort things out. And was she... posing?! Like... huh? Who was this white female pup?!
"Red." He interrupted, toes twitching. "You can just call me Red."
Was he really that close to leaving the territory? Instead of feeling properly frightened, his eyes lit up and he glanced behind him. So if he just kept going further...uh, that direction, he would leave the territory? Wouldn't that just be a grand adventure! Not quite as exciting as the ones that mama always talked about. Because he wasn't in any hurry to go visit that strange wood.
But stepping outside the Dawnstar pack territory? That was doable. Maybe.
"Soooo... all I have to do is just go a little farther? And I'd be leaving the territory?" He asked, getting to his paws while his tail started wagging. "Cool!" And then he jumped off the rock and pranced away, totally not having any idea if he even was heading the right direction.
"Also, you need to work on your pose!" He teased with a laugh. And then almost tripped over his own paws. medigel lmao feel free to decide if he's successfully leaving or heading back towards home xD;

...So, uh. This was not how it was supposed to go. Serenity stared at the space Red had occupied, stunned. He was supposed to say something along the lines of aw shucks you got me there and together they would have gone back home, easy peasy. The nerve! She pouted at the empty air before giving chase. “You come and take that back!” she shouted. “I’ve been working really hard on those!” They were supposed to look cool to the good guys and intimidate the bad guys. Sure she was barely three stones tall right now, but just you wait! Of course, a chase involving two clumsy pups could only ever end one way. Somehow, via one’s attempt to shake off versus another’s attempt to head them off, the two ended up colliding. Serenity fell flat on her rump and pouted some more after helping. “Where are you even going?” she asked petulantly. “It’s dangerous out there!”

He just laughed a little more at this silly girl pup. But he was having fun with this chase! It wasn't very often he got someone other than his brother to play with him. Even if she probably didn't think this was play. Red was just happy having his freedom to explore (somewhere) with another pup joining him.
Of course, his laughter changed pretty quickly to a yelp as he collided with something white and his paws got tangled until there were two balls of fluff sitting there, catching their breaths.
"It wasn't a very cool pose." He got out, looking at the white pup with a curious tilt to his head. "I mean, it has potential. But you gotta stand taller. Oooh maybe hold one paw up like you're getting ready to squash something?"
Red blinked, then looked around and shrugged his little shoulders. "Not sure where. I just enjoy exploring! If I sit still for too long I just get this weird feeling and have to run around." He helpfully left out the part about his not knowing exactly where they were.
"Uh, so I'm Red. What's your name?" medigel omg she is stealing my heart ;u;

“I’m standing as tall as I can!” Serenity whined, doing so to prove it. She was too young to really show the leginess she’d grow into just yet unfortunately. And lifting a paw to squash things...hrm...She held one up and frowned down at it for a few seconds before shaking her head. What if Red was trying to distract her so he’d run away again? No sir! She cleared her throat. “I am the pretty moon guardian, Serenity Moon!” she declared proudly. “Here to make sure you don’t get in trouble!” Because if someone like say Stonerooted caught them this far out, they’d get herded into a cave for the whole day as punishment. And the day just started! “How about we explore while we head back?” Serenity suggested. “I mean, it’s pretty out here, yeah. If we make a path we can come back later?” Being lost was the real problem, but she tried not to look nervous.

Now Red was just laughing, rolling on to his side and thumping his tail against the ground. Okay, so his pose suggestion hadn't been the greatest. But she'd looked even sillier doing that one! He managed to get some of the chortling under control before rolling over to lay on his belly.
"Okay, okay. You're first pose was better." He admitted. Right up until the punchline. And then he just stared owlishly at the white pup.
Did wolves really go around saying stuff like that? Maybe he really did need to get out and explore more.
"Uh... so your name is... Serenity? Moon?" Followed by a snort. "I'm not getting in to trouble! I'll have you know I'm an explorer. Exploring the land!" Now it was his turn to sit up tall and proud. "Just like my mama." Red paused. "Well... okay, not just like her. She tends to go exploring in this really spooky place. And I don't think I'm ready for that. So I'll stick to the interesting places nearby. Like... like this place!" See? He totally knew what he was doing.
The red pup jumped to his feet, suddenly super excited. "Really? You'd explore with me? Y'know, along the way back to the den?" He wasn't so sure about making this 'path' she spoke of. It sounded like a lot of work and his mind was already way past that. "I hope we find something really cool that we can tell everyone about."
Like how they managed to pull this whole thing off without getting caught. Especially if it was their Betas. Two Tone probably wouldn't be too upset. But Stonerooted was kinda scary.

The pup huffed indignantly. "Ugh! You're so rude!" she whined with a stamp of her paws. She had a pretty name!! And cool poses!!! Serenity had half a mind to just leave him if he was going to be a pain--only, that was exactly what Red wanted. And she couldn't in good conscience just walk away if he really did get lost. (And she was sure he would, whatever he was saying, if they weren't already in the middle of nowhere.) "Fine!" Serenity Moon tried to look as annoyed as possible at the prospect, sarcastically adding, "I'll follow your lead, Mr. Explorer. Don't get us even more lost please." Because if they ended up in the spooky woods like he had mentioned, they were in so much trouble... "Just hurry up so we can get home!"

Okay, maybe he had been a little rude. But now, Red wasn't sure what to do. This girl was whining and stamping her paws. Was that something that girls did? He probably should apologize. But honestly, he wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to apologize for. It wasn't like he had been the one to come claiming to be 'border patrol' and making silly poses.
Before he could figure out what his next step was, Serenity was agreeing to go exploring with him.
Thoughts of apologize went right out the window as his mind raced through all the possibilities and scenarios they could run through. It was so exciting his whole little body quivered and he danced from foot to foot.
"Oh oh okay this way c'mon!" And he shot off forward, like usual, not watching where exactly he was going. "Wait, are we lost?" He suddenly asked, slowing his headlong run down to look back at the white pup. "Uh, Serenity? Are we really lost?" Because he had no idea where they actually were.
The red pup shifted his weight, looking a little bashful at Serenity Moon, and clearly trying to figure out how to say something. "Um.... "
"I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. Can you help find the way back?" He really did feel sorry.

Are we lost. Are we lost? Serenity glared at him and held back the longest growl of a sigh. ...No, see, this was fine! Everything! Is! Fine! Because she was sure if they just turned right around, they could find their way back! He even apologized! This was fine!! She took a deep breath and shook her head. “Okay. Let’s just turn around and follow me,” she said. “If we retrace my steps and follow my scent, we should be good.” Right? Serenity could pick out her own scent at any rate. But she waited until Red trotted back to her before she made a move to lead on, still leery he might run away again at a moment’s notice. Sigh, being responsible was hard.“You should stay more aware next time,” Serenity chastised him as they walked. “What if you seriously get lost next time? Then you’d get in super trouble and won’t get to explore anything ‘cause you’ll be grounded. And your mom and dad’d get worried.”

His ears lowered a notch or two as he watched the white pup, feeling even more bashful and guilty. He just couldn't help his tendency to race off with that excitement building in his gut to see the unknown! It really didn't ever occur to him what to do when he actually did wind up lost. Or worse, bringing someone with him. Who he had just met...
Red twitched his tail, keeping some part of his body in motion to relieve that excess energy that was always present. But he waited. The best that he could. For Serenity Moon to respond.
"O-Okay!" Red chirped, eager to follow her as she seemed to know what she was doing. At least with leading them. The right way.
Of course, she started to lecture him a little and that just made Red huff and roll his eyes behind her back. "I can't help it!" He did admit. "I just get this feeling of... of like, super excitement when I set out to explore." And never paid attention to his surroundings, he didn't say out loud.
He also didn't answer her about getting really lost. While it sounded scary, it sort of sounded like one of mama's adventures too! Except for the grounded part. That would be no fun!
"Dad isn't part of the pack." He mumbled. "He's a... Mama called him a 'wanderer'."
