Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no. He should have never signed up for this. Blackwater wasn’t a fighter—he wasn’t much of anything to be honest, besides an insomniac nuisance, he knew—but on top of all that, he had to start off with Snow Rabbit. The alpha. The only one that could have been worse would be Big Bad. Were all of them there? Oh gods, was his father?? Was Mother watching???
Someone, please save him.
He was clearly nervous when it was their turn to go up. There was a tremble in one leg he tried to hide as he sized Snow Rabbit up. Blackwater knew he couldn’t see well, but that didn’t matter to him: Snow was still leagues higher in rank and had to have had more practice in actual combat. As if all of that wasn’t bad enough, he felt the beginnings of a headache coming on. But it was too late now. Focus. Focus.
At the mark to start, Blackwater went lower to the ground and began a circular pace, a hundred thoughts fighting for attention. Memories of Azure at work, of what he had learned playfighting with the others...and then went for a quick strike.
