[FIN-Win] A Frosty Point (Hoarfrost x Melting Point)

The days were still cold, but she had begun to get used to it. The snow under her paws. Cold breezes teasing her fur. Snowflakes tickling her nose. Hoarfrost licked at her snout, getting the freezing flakes that had settled there. A small sneeze rocked her back with a light puff of snow floating away. This made her giggle, tail wagging and sending even more of the frosty flakes sailing.

Hoarfrost shook her coat and flopped back down where she'd been observing some of her pack mates. It was a little too cold to lay out in the snow, so she was still within the cave, but she had a view of those wolves coming and going.

But most of her attention was on those wolves cuddling together. The romantic looks they gave each other. The sweet way they walked together or completed tasks together.

The pup just sighed. She wished that, one day, she could find someone just like they had. Like her mother and father found each other. It was one of those things that she already found herself daydreaming about. Even though she was still a wee pup, it gave her something to look forward to in her adult life.

Melting Point was growing into the most handsome teen if he did say so himself. He had clearly inherited the big genes from both of his parents, and he certainly walked around with an extra swagger on top of that. Why wouldn't he? He was the alpha's son, the first son at that, and he had already earned a reputation for being loud and proud and unafraid to back up his words. Surely Polar Sun was quaking in her den thinking about the day he challenged her for the position as beta. And from there, Dad would be next...

Until then, obviously he needed to keep up to date on everyone else in the pack, make sure they knew who he was and who to back when the challenge went up. You know, important stuff. It was cold still, though Melting Point loved it. At one point he broke into a run and then screeched into a halt yards later, spraying snow everywhere with a laugh. Then he realized he just caught someone in his wake.

"Whoops." He sounded amused more than apologetic. He pawed at the new mound. "Still alive?"

She was in the midst of her daydreaming, watching the affections between a pair of pack mates. Just the simple rubbing of snouts, and standing close to one another. It was all so sweet and Hoarfrost was imagining herself with the most handsome of wolves she could find. He would be big and strong but very affectionate. And want to have a big family. Yes! A big family was important because family itself was important and-

A wall of snow fell on her (okay maybe just a small blanket of flurry), snapping her out of her daydreaming.

"Heeeey!" She growled, maybe yipped a little in surprise.

Someone was pawing at her, making sure she was still alive. Hoarfrost shook her little body, getting to her paws to confront whoever had ruined her amazing daydream about the best possible mate she could find and the wonderful family they would have and raise...!

"Rude!" Her blue eyes found the culprit, little ears falling back a little. Oh. Oh great. "Yes. I'm still alive. Just a little snowy now." Hoarfrost replied, trying to regain a little bit of her dignity and pretending she hadn't just told Melting Point he was rude. Which he was. And annoying with the way he made sure everyone knew who his dad was. He probably had no idea who she even was.

Rude?? It was a complete accident, okay, so like she needed to chill and--Oh. It was just Hoarfrost. He absolutely knew who she was and what she was the product of. Melting Point's laughter died and transformed into a look of disdain.

"Just a little?" He slapped a mound of snow at her without warning. "Too slow! Now you're a lot snowy, dumbass. Bet you weren't paying attention."

Hoarfrost had definitely not been expecting to have more snow slapped at her. Any sound she may have made turned in to a cough as she got some of said snow in her mouth. But her ears worked just fine. Oh. Oh okay. Was that how it was?

See? He totally was rude!

Okay. So there were totally techniques that could be used to handle situations like this. Something she probably could learn from her mother. Like how to not let the little things get to her. Or Melting Point. But she had yet to learn these bits of wisdom. So instead, she shook her coat once more, making sure to get some of the snow on him too. Then smacked his snout with her paw.

"Oops. I thought I got some of that snow on your bad mouth." She examined his snout. "Nope. Still just as ugly as before."

Melting Point's ears pinned back immediately at the slap, and his practically eponymous temper immediately broke out. How dare she hit him? How dare she do anything but say sorry for getting in the way? With a growl, he jumped at the pup to try and pin her down in the messy slurry they had created. She was just a stupid puppy, she couldn't possibly get out unless he let her. And he had some words to say first.

"Better not let your grandad hear you," he hissed. "I bet he wouldn't like you insulting a son of Permafrost."

Hoarfrost had been prepared for some sort of retaliation. But Melting Point was a little bigger than she was and so, the female pup wound up getting pinned down. Once more, she was a snowy mess. Her fur bristled and little teeth bared up at the rude older pup. Other pups would probably back down. Unfortunately, Hoarfrost did not possess the ability to do so.

"Oh yeah? You're one to talk! Maybe you shouldn't insult a daughter of Permafrost. I bet grandad doesn't know how you talk about my mother. Maybe I should go tell him? Or maybe I should tell your father?" She tried to wiggle free. "Bet that would put a damper on your ability to be alpha one day!"

Unable to wiggle free, Hoarfrost debated on using her teeth or making a fool of herself and crying. Loudly. Would Melting Point get in trouble if he was caught being such a bully?

Could she live with having others think her weak?

"Some alpha you'd be. Always bullying others. Grandpa Frost is better than you are." She decided to go with teeth, attempting to bite at his leg so she could wiggle free.

Everything about Hoarfrost offended him, from her tattletale attitude to the fact that she looked too much like his mother and Cloudberry together. How could she have ever been with a coward like that? How could dad let their kid be a beta? It didn't make sense to Melting Point at all, he would have been furious if he found out his mate had had kids with someone else.

"Don't you dare--Ow! b***h!" He used his other paw to step on her ear on the opposite side, trying to pull Hoarfrost's jaws away. Except it just pulled more at his other leg. Ow. Ow. Ow. He wanted to bite her back, but talking was more important right now.

"S'not about who says what," he huffed down at her, fur bristling. "You beat the alpha in combat, you get to be the alpha. Anyway, go tell your stupid grandad all about how mean ol' Melt pushed you down, see what happens. I'll spoil it for you: he won't do anything. He's a big coward, and so are you."

He was such a horrible wolf! She swore right than she would never support him if he ever succeeded in becoming alpha. Oh no. He wouldn't know how to be one if he's life depended on it!

"Y'can't tell me what to do!" She growled around his leg.

A pained growl escaped but Hoarfrost latched on and didn't let go, even as her ear was stepped on. There was a bit of satisfaction in her at successfully causing him a little pain. But it was short lived as, unfortunately, she couldn't hold on to his leg and keep his stupid big mouth shut at the same time. She did try to kick him with her hind legs, to push herself out from her pinned state.

Oooooh, the hell with that! Those were fighting words there.

Hoarfrost's eyes narrowed up at Melting Point. Her jaws squeezed tightly, no longer caring if she actually hurt the son of the alpha. He wanted to be alpha so bad? He'd have to learn to get out of his own s**t! With all her might, she shoved her hind legs up into his unprotected underside. She was not a coward!

For some reason he hadn't thought about her other legs OW--

Melting Point wasn't a bark over bite, much as he liked to shoot his mouth off. You couldn't be good lead material if you didn't back up your words, right? So if Hoarfrost wanted a fight, she'd get one!

She managed to push him off, but the older pup launched himself right at her again once his legs hit the ground, snarling his challenge. The snow collapsed under their combined weight as they fought, with Melt trying his best in particular to go for her ears. If he could tear even a piece off, maybe that'd show her to be careful about being sassy at him. Or really any part of her fur being in his mouth and not on her body would do - a trophy for their encounter. But she was small and nimble, and it was annoying.

Okay...Maybe she wasn't a coward. So that just left stupid, annoying, shouldn't even exist, ugly...

"He's not your grandpa," Melting Point huffed with a glare at one point. "He's my dad. Stick to your own freakin' family tree."

Her small victory at throwing Melting Point off was short lived. She'd barely managed to roll to her feet with the bigger pup was coming back at her. At least he'd finally stopped talking with his stupid big mouth. Hoarfrost snarled a challenge right back and used her smaller size to avoid as much of his snapping jaws as possible.

Her ear wasn't quite so lucky and she felt the pain as a tooth pierced through it. She cried out in fury at this threw her whole body at him in retaliation, physically trying to headbutt him.

Scrabbling in the snow, her little sides starting to heave as she worked to get more air in her lungs, she glowered at the stupid alpha's son.

"Permafrost is my grandmom, you dumbass! We're still stuck in the same family. At least the rest of us aren't as ugly as you are." Her little tail was up, fur poofed out. He was a stupid head! Why didn't anyone ever put him in his place?! UGH! She was going to have to be the one, wasn't she? Maybe when she was a little bigger she could do it properly. As it was... his size was playing in his favor. She was tiring. At least she'd gotten her sharp teeth in to his leg.

"Go shove your arrogant crap at someone who cares, stupid head!" Hoarfrost panted, little legs beginning to quiver. She refused to let Melting Point see her as weak. But in reality, she really wanted to go find one of her siblings and just bury her head under them. Maybe tell her mother what happened. Although, she'd probably get scolded for not holding her tongue.... And her ear hurt!

Panting (owwww), Melting Point turned his head to the side and spit. Ugly? Him? The hell he was. He could already feel the gazes of other girls in the pack, he knew it. Hoarfrost was blind and biased and desperate for insults, and it showed. And she was starting to shake. He felt triumphant about the whole endeavor, even if the whole confusing family tree thing really made his head hurt on top of the other body aches.

"Whatever. You're the weaker branch, then," Melting Point said waspishly, his tail thrashing. Fur puffed as it was, he knew he must have looked another half size bigger, and he hoped it made him loom even more over her. "So you better learn your place like your mom did: you'll get to be second place at best if you're anything at all here. That's not crap, that's the truth, n' you're too scared to admit it."

He tried for nonchalance as he shook himself of her, of the snow, of the new scrapes. He could feel the leg she had buried her teeth in really starting to sting.

Ughhhh. Could he just go away now? Why did she have to be the one that got stuck dealing with his arrogant a** today? Hoarfrost glared daggers, hoping that her gaze would pierce him somehow.

Maybe it could make him spontaneously com-bust?

Or the gods struck him with lightning?

Either of those could be good.

Hoarfrost snorted, squaring her paws and weight in case he came at her once more. "I'm scared?" She couldn't help the snicker. "I think you're scared. Scared that you'll never be alpha!" She highly doubted he would. Not with his attitude.

Shaking out her fur, to force it to settle, she just waited. Waited for him to leave. To go strut his stuff around someone else.

"Scared...?"

Melting Point's maw spread into a smug, angry grin.

"Which one've us is gonna go crying to her family, huh? Cuz it ain't me. I got better things to do than that. Responsibilities. Not that you'd ever understand, shakes-a-lot. Go find whoever you want, n' tell 'em who sentcha. Mine's a name everyone's gonna know one day."

With an air of superiority, he turned away and began to march, hiding his grimace every four steps as his wounded paw complained.
