The stallion trotted westward along the northern edge of the great desert, the rocky land dropping off steeply into a deep canyon to his right. His heavy armor rustled and shifted with each step he took. For somebody on the run, he rarely moved in silence. Perhaps he had become complacent during his time in the Kawani lands. He had escaped detection from the Emperor's scouts for long enough, they may have given up their search. Or perhaps he just didn't care anymore. This fugitive life was lonely and frustrating...was it really worth the running, the hypervigilance, always looking over his shoulder? He could trust nobody and made no friends. He had lost everything and had no prospects...was this really a life worth living?
He sighed and pushed the ideas from his mind. He did enjoy travelling among the Kawani lands. The landscapes here were much different than the faraway place he had come from. He had travelled quite extensively, moving from place to place, doing foul deeds for high prices. He was always careful to keep his anonymity and keep to himself. Sure there were some that seemed nice enough, but once you let your guard down, you were an easy target and after all he had done to escape, Zian did not intend to mark himself so easily.
So it was that he continued on alone. Gazing down into the canyon to his right, he came to a stop and turned, the desert wind at his back blowing his multi-colored mane all about the frame of his face and whistling in his ears.

Staring out at the canyon, his mind wandered back to his faraway home and his lost love. Though it had been many years, he still saw visions of her death played out before him over and over. Despite the passage of time and all of his efforts to move on, he couldn't forget her or that awful day. It had all been his fault. His power had gone to his head and poisoned his good and noble soul. He grew greedy and heartless, betraying her trust and squandering her love - he had been the death of her. It was in these moments that his self pity gave way to guilt and he admitted that he fully deserved this lonely life he had been condemned to live. It was either this or death, which he deserved as well. But he was a coward, so he continued to run.
Pulled out of his awful reverie, he turned his head sharply as he saw a flash of white out of the corner of his eye. His sharp eyes locked onto the figure of a large white stallion plummeting through the air towards the floor of the canyon. His heart skipped a beat as he thought he was about to witness yet another death as the stallion smashed into the ground below, but quickly noticed the set of dark double wings, folded tightly to the stallion's side. Zian squinted as the sun glinted off the stallion's armor and watched as he sped towards the ground, like a sea bird diving for a fish. Would he pull up in time?
