User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Many things go unnoticed in a land where thousands of Soquili roam the lands. Deep in the shadows, things lurk, away from the busy lives of those that thrive in the area. Even those that may wander alone, might not notice some of the things that creep in the dark. Tales, stories and rumors spread to keep you alert to the unforeseen dangers. Knowing of the dangers, and meeting them face to face, can never compare. When you are in the face of pure evil, caught unawares, you are victim to the whims of others. For one such fox walker, he aimed to find the things that went bump in the night, and snuff them out. His motive, unknown, his name, unheard of. Only that even in the darkness, there are those that would hunt even the darkness itself. Seeking out that which slinks in the shadows, ready to strike and steal the life of those that lurk too close. This pawed black abyss, would find you, and in turn, give you the dark death you so enacted on other victims. A murderer, of murderers. Perhaps he wanted to rid the lands of evil? Or perhaps, this hunter of hunters, had evil in him the same as those he stole the breath from. Two wrongs do not make a right, but what if you take out many wrongs? Does that make it right?

The forest lay silent as The Death Collector collected yet another Death. Death, a name for other walkers, that brought life's end to others. Walking Death, that reaped where they pleased. He dined not on the body that lay before him, broken and bruised. Instead, he lay next to them, licking his paws and tending to his own wounds of battle.

As a guide to the dying, Spiri tended to wander in the shadows. Night especially called to the living to pass on, for a final rest from the whole of ones numbered days. She carried with her, a lantern of shadows. The darkness itself in the lantern, seemed to unnaturally glow, as if trying to provide light, against the very nature of darkness itself. Somehow, that lantern used dark to provide a feeling of light, without having any light at all. The edges of shadow, ebbing and flowing around the glass. Spiri held it gently in her mouth, and it gave her a sense of where to follow it's dark light. Used in the same manner one might use a dousing rod. The dousing rod having no power in and of itself, but only acting as a medium for the user to focus their senses. It led her to the deepest crevices' of the forest, where life didn't dare go. Even the creatures that thrived in the dark, sometimes didn't traverse where this small Soquili dared to set foot.

Eyes filled with the night looked for signs of death, and didn't see any right away. Closing her eyes, Spiri stopped to listen, and to smell. It took a minute, before the iron tang of blood carried to her nose. A chill tickled over her shoulders from the smell. There is no fear in her. Only a sense of purpose that calls her forward. Using her senses, and her instinct, she lets the lantern further guide her towards the smell. Paws delicate and careful, step lightly as she moves. Spiri carried herself in a way so as not to startle or wake the dying.

Signs of a struggle, with blood began to pop up on the ground. Spiri is in the right place. Still unafraid, even for her own life, as she sought out whatever might be at the end of the red trail.

The Death Collector had his own senses to follow. The presence of someone else in the dark, felt later than he would of liked, made him jolt. The stranger adept at keeping silent. Normally those that slid through the dark hoping to not be noticed, only brought trouble. Leaves rustled as he darted further back into the night, vanishing from the scene he had created. Exiting from his stage. No need to linger, since his performance was complete. He lingered though, eager to see who creeped in the darkness with him. Pacing his breathing, he made sure not to give away his location. No worry about something smelling him. His smell was everywhere. Tufts of fur and blood painted the area, both from him, and that which lay on the ground, center stage.

The streaks of red turned to a pool, with a broken body at its core. Such a site didn't take the breath away from Spiri, nor did she faulter in her motive. Feeling neither fear, nor pity for the soon-to-be-corpse. Spiri couldn't explain it, but her senses told her that there lay a breath left to be breathed in the fallen soquili. Propping her lantern up against a nearby stump, she looked to her parting company, and took in a breath. Closing her eyes, her nostrils filled with the acrid metal tang of blood and mortal wounds. Her part in the play started now. She didn't have time to notice much about them. They were too broken to identify aside from the fact that they were large in stature, with skin that clung to their back. A walker. Even still, her resolve did not falter or break. Death can come for anyone, at anytime, no matter who you were.

Exhaling, she began her role. Leaning in close, she whispered to the male or female at her feet, as paw gingerly placed on their chest. "Fear not, and no need to speak. I am here to guide you to the afterlife. I mean you no harm." Her words gentle as the wind, delicate, and soothing. The smell of lavender and sage emanated from her, oils that she wore to aid in the transition between planes. She waited a moment, as if expecting something. Just then, the still moving walker, sucked in a deep breathe, as if they had been underwater until now. Spiri nodded. As expected, they were still here with her in the physical.

The wet and red chest rose and fell with a rattle beneath her paw.

Deep in the darkest of shadows, eyes watched on as a mare stepped onto his stage. He held his breath for a moment. When she only approached the one he had brought the curtain call to, he near turned to slink away. However, the mare intrigued him. Obviously not here to eat the meat or other tender parts, no. She is no kalona, nor a mix, nor kin to his kind. Narrowing his eyes, he continued to watch on as she placed a tender paw on his chest. When his victim took a deep breath, he braced himself out of instinct. It would be impressive for him, the one on the ground, to be able to do much more though. He still didn't relax though, cause he didn't want to be caught unaware.

Should he warn the mare? Eyes and head drifted to the side in thought, and fluttered in annoyance. He could warn her, but why should he? She was the one standing over a walker. Sniffing in the air, he didn't smell any fear on her. She is either crazy, or has a dark purpose he could only imagine of. Perhaps a witch? No, he wouldn't say a word to her.

Spiri continued to whisper softly to the soon-to-be-departed Soquili. She said things to help them pass without holding on to this plain of existence. It isn't long before the Soquili takes one last long breath. Even then Spiri stays and continues to talk to them. The heart and mind soon to follow that last breath. Once she smells the scent of Death, she ceases talking to their ear. Instead, she whispers to the air around them, hoping to reach their soul as they pass on.

When she departs, she doesn't say goodbye. She picks up her lantern, and leaves without looking back. Feeling as if no one is there any longer, and never being aware of the second walker that watched her the whole time she performed.

The black fox lingered in the shadows till he grew bored. Still unsure what her motive was by talking to his victim. A witch she is not, nor a predator looking for a snack. Maybe she is just mental after all. Obviously the dying walker that once killed many, could no longer be a threat. They barely had the energy to stay knocking at deaths door as this weird mare whispered things to them.

This show, did not excite the audience. He focused for a bit on licking his wounds clean. He yawned quietly, stretched his paws, and closed his eyes. Blue iridescent ears swiveled back and forth, listening for any dangers that might approach. One eye popped open when he heard the mare leaving. He didn't even lift his head to watch her leave. He closed his eye, and fell asleep. A deep sleep, one he wouldn't normally take so close to the murder scene. The black fox walker was exhausted though, and sleep took him whether he wanted it to or not.
