February 2024 People do a lot of things in the name of love. Is it wrong to protect someone you love from a horrible truth or should they be given all the information even if it's terrible? That's for you to decide. But once you know, ...well you can't take it back This RP is between platonic friends (no secret feelings here!). Think your best friend, your person, your ride or die.... They've kept something from you and you've just found out. Your friend says it was to protect you. It wasn't something you had to know, but once you know it changes things. It can be a secret as big or small as you want. But how do you feel about it? Are you glad they kept it from you? Did they do the right thing? Do you understand their intentions and does that make it okay? Or are you pissed? And what happens next? Melody was hoping they'd eventually give up. She was afraid about what telling her friend would mean. But the strangers hadn't let up -- in fact, they were becoming a lot more persistent, and visiting a lot more often... and Melody feared this now not-so-little secret she's been keeping from Mar could have some deadly consequences. It made her heart hurt. She wasn't exactly a fighter, so how could she keep her safe? It would be better if she told Mar. That way, they could come up with a plan together. But what if telling her makes her leave? Melody squeezed her eyes shut tight at the thought. It was that very reason Melody hadn't told her anything yet. She didn't want her friend to be on the run again, or to make her afraid.
But Mar's former herd haven't given up their search yet... and now they were close to finding her.
With a heavy sigh, Melody flicked her tail to propel herself through the water, towards their hidden lair. She swam down, down, deep into the ocean until she reached the sandy bottom and through the thick forest of kelp and seaweed. With a quick glance around her to make sure she hadn't been followed, she pushed aside the rock covering the entrance to the cave and squeezed her way inside.Mar jerked her head up from where she'd been napping when she felt the current change, her body tense -- and then relaxed when she saw it was her friend. "Melody," she sighed in relief. Mar swam over to meet her, and the two of them pressed their noses together with a giggle. "I'm glad you came to visit. I know it's for the best, but it gets so lonely here..." While she wasn't confined to the one spot, Mar didn't leave the cave often. It was too soon to risk leaving when she knew her former herd was still searching for her. They hadn't seen or heard of them in months, though... maybe in a year, she could move about more freely.Melody's joy in seeing her friend was genuine, but it was difficult to keep up her smile without becoming forced. "I know, I'm sorry. I wish I could come visit more, but if someone saw me..." she trailed off with a sigh, feeling somber. She had to do this. Mar's life was in jeopardy and this wasn't a decision Melody should have been making for her. "Mar... I -- I need to tell you something. I didn't mean for it to go on for so long, but..." Melody paused, swallowing the lump in her throat and willing herself not to cry -- from the guilt, the fear, or the worried look on Mar's face, she didn't know. "It's your herd. They've been snooping around close to here. They've been close for months now -- but it's okay! We can make a plan together to throw them off, right? Together we can --""What do you mean months?" interrupted Mar's shrill, panicked voice. She was on high alert ever since the words your herd left Melody's mouth, her heart hammering in her chest with dread. "How close? Have they talked to you? Why didn't you tell me sooner!?""I - they talked to me, but I didn't tell them where you are! I just didn't want to worry you! Please, Mar, I was only trying to protect you --""PROTECT ME?" Mar shouted in disbelief. How could Melody have been so careless with her life? Didn't she understand the risks of her former herd finding her? "They want to kill me, Melody! Not telling me isn't protecting me! They've been coming here for months and you said nothing to me! How could you?" Mar's emotions were an overwhelming mix of betrayal, fear, and heartbreak. She swam in circles around her little cave, suddenly feeling like the walls were closing in on her. She had no way to escape and her so-called friend didn't tell her that her would-be killers were here and asking about her whereabouts. "I've got to go," she decided, mostly talking to herself. "It's not safe anymore. I can't stay here." Mar started towards the exit, but was stopped in her path when Melody moved to block her."N-no, please, wait! Mar, you don't have to go. We can figure this out! We can... we can go somewhere else together! You're my best friend, please don't leave me," Melody begged. Her eyes burned, tears whisked away and swallowed up into the ocean the moment they escaped her eyes. She'd been so, so stupid. Why didn't she just tell Mar sooner? They could have avoided all of this! "My friend Casimir could help us, he's a good person! He'd want to help, I know it. Maybe we could go talk to him --""NO!" Mar rounded on Melody and snarled. "How can I trust you after this? I can't trust you! I don't want to hear anymore. I'm leaving, if you try to stop me again, I'll -- I'll use my claws!" It was the last thing Mar wanted to do. Melody had been a bright spot in her miserable life; she didn't want to hurt her. But after this -- she couldn't stay. Not for her, not for anyone. Mar shook hear head, with with a last hiss at Melody, she sped out of the cave and swam off into the vastness of the ocean."I'm so sorry," Melody sobbed, but no one was there to hear her.

April 2024 Namely, do you remember that time you saw a cute little bunny with blood on it that happened to be not so cute, but rather a malevolent urban legend that chased you through the woods? It's been a whole year since then. When you come up on a cute bunny stallion and it's cute little bunny friend, you shouldn't worry right? RIGHT?!?!?! But you do, you know you do. When you come up on this "cute"....thing that's blocking your way out of a canyon, you are highly suspicious. And it acts clueless, as though it really has no clue how to do....anything? It's faking right? Truth is it's not faking. It's new to the area and really has no clue about life here. But, since you meet Sans Merci, you're just a little paranoid. Write 750 words per RPer on your encounter with this strange clueless bunny (He's new to the area!) and how you let your paranoia, that this might be another Shifter trap, get in the way. If you want, you can RP the prize as well (who probably has some opinions on how weird your being). Parthenos was watching the stallion from a distance, hidden between some bushes. Large paws, long ears, a short fluffy tail... these weren't the traits of an average soquili. In fact, they reminded him quite a lot of that rabbit shifter he had encountered last year. He had to make sure there wasn't anyone else around in immediate danger before he left to inform Tarashikomi of the threat, so they could take care of him together. His little ear wings fluttered in agitation, ears laid back and eyes narrowed as the rabbit stallion searched around the canyon. Was he hunting!? Could he smell a creature nearby that Parthenos couldn't? He lowered him self down further into the bushes, eyes darting about the canyon to try and spot this unseen prey.Unaware of the turmoil swirling around in Parthenos' mind, Llywelyn was making his way out of the canyon when he spotted the rabbit stallion. He seemed to be lost -- or perhaps he lost something? With no fear in his heart or thoughts of dangerous shifters, Llywelyn approached the stallion with a small smile. "Hello. Are you lost? Do you need help?" he offered with a gentle, kind voice. The rabbit stallion's ears perked up when Llywelyn approached him, and smiled back at the kind stranger. "Yes, I --"But he didn't get to finish his sentence. As soon as Llywelyn had approached the rabbit stallion, Parthenos leapt out of his hiding spot and charged towards the pair of larger soquili. "Watch out! Run, he's a shifter!" he shouted as he galloped towards them as fast as he could, aiming for the rabbit stallion's legs in an effort to knock him over. Both of the taller stallions leapt back away from each other at Parthenos' warning, and the little pixie missed his target. He skid to a stop in the dirt and whirled around with a huff, ready to face his attacker."Where!?" the rabbit stallion asked in an alarmed voice, eyes wide as he looked around to try and spot the shifter the pixie warned them about. But... he didn't see anyone else but the three of them in the canyon. "I don't see a shifter... where did you see it? Did you scare it off?" The pixie had made quite the ruckus when he came out of those bushes. Maybe the predator had decided to cut its losses after realizing it would be up against the three of them. That would be a relief!Parthenos glared at the rabbit stallion. Did he think they were stupid!? Acting like he wasn't the shifter Parthenos was trying to warn about! "Don't play your games with us. You haven't fooled anyone. You're the shifter!" he accused, stomping his hoof down to make his point.Llywelyn blinked, looking between the two soquili and trying to make sense of what was happening. The pixie thought the other stallion was a shifter? But... sure, he had some unique features, but Llywelyn couldn't see a pelt. He tilted his head as he observed the rabbit stallion, squinting his eyes, just to make sure, but... no, there wasn't a pelt. He was just a normal stallion with rabbit-like features, not unlike the little nymph soquili he'd seen before -- only much bigger. "Um..." he cleared his throat, trying to interrupt before the situation escalated, but wanting to be polite about it. "I don't think he's a shifter. He seemed lost? And, I don't see a pelt..."The rabbit stallion nodded. "He's right. Well, I'm not lost, but I'm looking for my friend who is lost... but I'm certainly not a shifter!" He turned around to show off the rest of his body to the pixie's scrutinizing gaze, showing that there was no pelt on his body to be seen -- fused to his body or as decoration. The idea of wearing a creature's pelt on his body ran a chill down his spine. It seemed so... grotesque. "See?"Parthenos stared. He couldn't believe it. It was so obvious now... the one key feature that set a shifter and a normal soquili apart. The pelt. Why hadn't he noticed? Was he that paranoid after his encounter with the white rabbit shifter? "Oh no," Parthenos muttered, clearly embarrassed. What must they think of him! "I-I'm so sorry. I thought... well, you know what I thought. I had an encounter with a rabbit shifter once and I just... well I've never seen a soquili like you before, so I just assumed..." he couldn't seem to finish a sentence, babbling through his apology. The poor thing! Llywelyn cut in again, trying to switch topics so the little pixie could take a minute compose himself. "You said you were looking for someone?" he asked the rabbit stallion. "Maybe we can help. What do they look like?" Between the three of them, Llywelyn was sure they could find this stallion's friend."Oh -- yes! I would be grateful. She's my familiar, a little bunny. White and yellow, and she's wearing a bonnet with roses. I got distracted, but she didn't realize I had stopped walking and went on without me into the canyon... her name is Bonnie. Ah! And I'm Hazel. It's a pleasure to meet you both -- despite the first impressions," he said with a laugh. The pixie started to apologize for his mistake again, but just then, a small rabbit fitting Hazel's description hopped from around the corner and spotted them.
"Oh, Hazel, there you are!" Bonnie called out, hopping over to the group of soquili. "I see you made some new friends?" she asked, adjusting her bonnet and looking around at the other two with a smile. "Pleased to meet you! Thank you for finding my Hazel. He'd lose his own tail if it wasn't attached to his --"
"Hey!"

May 2024 This month we're going to RP Cottagecore. What? Cottagecore is an aesthetic that celebrates simple living, particularly in the countryside. It encourages a lifestyle rooted in traditional skills—like baking bread, gardening, and sewing your own clothes. Write a 750 word RP minimum about Cottagecore. This can be a day in the life of your soquili, it can even be a story they tell about orcs opening bookshops wink. Whatever it is, it's about the simple living; about the joy. Hakuna Matata and all that! The construction of their new home was taking far longer than Crowley anticipated, but he was patient. He wanted to make sure every little detail was perfect. He could tell living in that dingy cave was wearing on Aziraphale, but he wouldn't rush this. He wanted this to be a surprise, so he hadn't told Aziraphale anything about the project. That did make things a little difficult -- Crowley didn't have access to opposable thumbs like Aziraphale's human form, so there was only so much he could do in building a cottage. Luckily, he had been able to enlist in the help of several familiars and domained angeni that were able to do the bulk of the work. In return, he helped them with their gardens though his ulun'suti powers (in addition to his skill) and passed on his knowledge so that they were capable of keeping their plants healthy and fruitful. Plus, once he and Aziraphale moved into the cottage, he would be able to offer additional help should they need it in the future.Aziraphale was anxious. For months, Crowley has been acting secretive, and even when they did spend time together, he seemed distracted -- and these past few weeks had been even worse! Any time Aziraphale attempted to find out what Crowley was up to, he would just mutter something about causing mischief or that he had plans, but would never elaborate. Crowley was hiding something -- he was sure of it. But what wouldn't he want Aziraphale to know? And after everything... why still keep secrets?
Maybe Aziraphale's fears were coming to light after all. The shared trauma and goals were what was keeping them together -- and now that they had their freedom, Crowley had no reason to stick around any longer. Was he looking for a new place to live? Did he have friends he'd never told Aziraphale about? And why wouldn't Crowley just talk to him?! He missed their conversations. He missed Crowley's company. Aziraphale didn't know how much longer he could put up with this kind of treatment. It was just... awful. And lonely.
He would talk to Crowley tomorrow, he decided. And he wouldn't let him run off again without getting answers.--- The day was finally here. The cottage was done. Crowley had ended up staying the night in the cottage, finishing up the last little details. The cottage was a little bigger and fancier than Aziraphale's yurt had been. There were four rooms, all large enough to accommodate two big soquili comfortably, so plenty of space for him and Aziraphale. The main room doubled as an entryway and lounge, with doors on each side that led off into different rooms. The doorways were covered with sheets of fabric that could be tied back to the frames to keep open. One room was a dedicated library, with built-in bookshelves, a desk, and a chair for Aziraphale to sit in when he was in his human form. It was decorated sparsely with potted plants; most of the space would eventually be filled top to bottom with books and scrolls, so he didn't want to put too much else in there. There was also a bedroom with hay and nice, thick blankets arranged into a nest for sleeping on. It, too, had a bookshelf, and more potted plants to give the room some color and life, as well as a small table by the nest. The final room was another bedroom, but this one was filled with as many plants as Crowley was able to fit, with his nest situated in the middle of the room. There were open spaces in the walls of every room for windows, with shutters on the outside to close on especially rainy or windy days.
Except for Crowley's bedroom, the inside was crafted with Aziraphale's tastes in mind. The outside, however, was Crowley's playground. A wide variety of flowers decorated the front, under the windows of each side of the doorway and around the sides of the house. The back was -- or, at least, would eventually be -- Crowley's pride and joy. A garden for a healthy range of fruits and vegetables. He only had a few to start with, but over time he hoped to be able to grow all the food they could eat. With the right set up, he was hoping to attempt to cultivate some mushrooms too. It wasn't something he's tried to grow himself before, but with the right environment and a good talking to, he's sure it was something he could pull off.
Now all he had to do was fetch Aziraphale. When Aziraphale woke to find Crowley's side of the cave empty, his heart sank. Had he even come home last night? In a decidedly sour mood, Aziraphale got up to continue with his usual morning routine. After breakfast, he decided to try to cheer himself up with some hot cocoa and a book. Cocoa was hard to come by and he was nearly out, but it usually helped to lift his spirits... but this time, Aziraphale was struggling to push through his morose mood long enough to even take a sip. He didn't know how much time had passed since he settled down to read and stared blankly at the pages in front of him, but he was started out of his thoughts by the sound of flapping wings and a heavy landing at the entrance to the cave. When he looked down at his drink, he realized it had gone cold. A wasted cup of cocoa. When he heard Crowley calling for him, he couldn't help but bristle in irritation."Angel!" Crowley called, trotting into the cave with a grin on his face. When he found Aziraphale in his little reading nook, Crowley's grin widened. "I've got something to show you.""Do you now?" Aziraphale replied coolly, leveling Crowley with an unimpressed stare.Crowley faltered. That... wasn't exactly the greeting he'd expected to get. Clearly, he'd missed something. "Er. Well, yes." He hesitated, then gestured towards the exit with a wing. "Shall we... go, then?"Aziraphale stood up abruptly with a frustrated huff. "I don't want to go anywhere until you actually talk to me. Where have you been running off to these last few months? You've been secretive, and -- and distracted! Do you even remember a word I've said to you this past week? Yesterday?"Taken aback, Crowley immediately went on the defensive. What was Aziraphale talking about? Sure, he's been secretive, but it wasn't like he was ignoring Aziraphale! They still spent time together! "Of course I do!" he snapped. "We were talking about..." he faltered again, wracking his brain to try and remember. He had been paying attention... hadn't he? "Uh... oh, bullocks," he muttered, wincing when he noticed Aziraphale raise an eyebrow at him. "You're right, I've been distracted, but if you just come with me it'll explain everything, I swear," he pleaded.Aziraphale deflated, the anger draining from him. They really weren't good at talking to each other, were they? "Alright," he agreed, voice soft. "I apologize. I'm not angry, but... you didn't come home last night. What if something had happened to you? It doesn't bother me when you go out, but when you don't tell me anything -- well. We can't know for certain that we haven't been followed. Our adversaries simply couldn't have let us go so easily."Crowley shook his head. "Believe me, angel, I haven't forgotten. I see your point." Aziraphale usually did tell Crowley what he was up to when he was going out. So did Crowley, for that matter -- but not lately. "I've been working on a not-so-little project these last few months. Meant for it to be a surprise. Would still rather show you than tell you, though.""A surprise? For me?" When Crowley nodded, Aziraphale felt so foolish. All this time, Crowley had been trying to do something nice for him, and he'd gotten yelled for his trouble. "Oh, dear, I'm sor --""Nope," Crowley interrupted, popping the p. "None of that, now. I should've said something, I could have managed a secret and still kept us both safe. Not too keen on the idea of the hellish legions offing me and leaving my body to rot, thanks. Come on, lemme show you what I've done, promise you'll be so pleased that we'll forget all about this mix up." When Aziraphale smiled softly and agreed, Crowley's heart fluttered and they head out together.--- When they arrived, it was a little bit a ways away from where they landed. Aziraphale followed Crowley though the trees until they came to a clearing, and he gasped. The cottage was darling, and the gardens in the front were filled with lovely yellow flowers amidst a few other colors scattered around to make them pop. "Oh, Crowley, it's beautiful! I can't believe you've built us a cottage. This is incredible!"Feeling rather pleased with himself, Crowley tried to play it cool with a nonchalant shrug. "Nyeh, had some help. Couldn't live in that dingy cave forever, could we? Knew you were missing your creature comforts. Ssssaw you, how antsy you were getting. Got a garden for myself in the back for me, too. Grow anything you want." With a sharp, amused grin, he added, "even growing an apple tree out there."Aziraphale laughed, eyes a little teary from the lovely gesture. "Fiend," he teased. "I wasn't antsy, as you say, from living in the cave. I was worried about you. Not just getting into danger, but -- oh, it's so silly, now," Aziraphale tittered, feeling embarrassed, but noticed that Crowley was waiting patiently for him to continue. "Well, if you must know, I thought... maybe we were drifting apart. You didn't seem interested in our discussions anymore, you were hardly around...""What? No, it'ssss the exact opposite, angel." Crowley scrunched up his nose, thinking of his actions over the past few months. "Didn't realize how bad it got." With another grin, Crowley raised an eyebrow at Aziraphale. "Won't be getting rid of me that easy. Got a bedroom set up in there all for me. One for you, too. Didn't decorate too much, know you've got your trinkets and things. Not much for decorations, me. But you know how to make everything nice and cozy. The flower gardens, too. I draw the line at garden gnomes or lawn flamingos, though," he warned with a disgusted curl of his lip. "None of that kitschy stuff to ruin all my hard work."Aziraphale laughed again, delighted, feeling warm and loved. "I wouldn't dream of it, dear," he promised, eyes twinkling with mischief. He could certainly agree with the lawn flamingos, but a garden gnome would just be darling. He was so looking forward to moving in to their new home. It was true, he didn't like the cave -- but Crowley had been there, so it was perfect. This would be even better. With a dreamy smile, he and Crowley went inside to look around the incredible gift Crowley had built for him.

June 2024 The Setting/Build Up:
You are enjoying an exploring walk with a friend (who either cannot have wings or cannot carry something large) while you are enjoying the spectacular view from the top of a mountain or cliff. You are being careful, but sometimes things still happen. One moment you're walking by the side of your friend a few feet from the edge when the ground crumbles beneath you. When you come to, you hear your friend yelling your name. If you have wings, they are too damaged to fly. You're very disoriented, but you finally hear that your friend is yelling for you not to move. Then you see why. Somehow on your tumble down the cliff, you've been stopped (quite violently) by a protruding tree or some shrubbery. How it's supporting you at all, is anyone's guess. If you move very much though it's not going to hold and you will fall to your death.
The Prompt:
Write an RP for the benchmark you are going for that explains your situation. You're there for hours. How hard is it not to move? How do you keep from moving? Does the branch start to give? What are you thinking about? How do you pass the time?
Or (if you're the friend) what do you do when you see your friend has fallen and by some miracle they still live. What do you do? What do you have to go through to get help? How far do you have to go? What do you come up with?
Your rp can use one or both of these prompts. Each RP should also conclude with how the soquili who's fallen is rescued. (Remember,if you have wings, they are out of commission. Your friend can't support your weight. It's going to take either a group to rescue you or some kind of inspired rescue by one or two friends. It was a beautiful day -- perfect for a walk -- which was exactly what Cormac and Rhea were doing now. The cool breeze felt good on his fur, and tousled through his hair just enough that he could feel it on his neck to fend off the sweat. "Ahhh, we should have brought things for a picnic. Great day for it, weather's perfect, no sign of rain -- can't believe we didn't think of it before we left!" he lamented. Maybe they could find a nice apple tree along the way. Some berries would be nice too, but Cormac was in the mood to bite into something crisp and juicy. Oh, no -- now he had a craving! He wasn't going to be able to stop thinking about apples all day."Well, we don't have to eat inside once we get home," Rhea chirped. "We won't be on the trail, but we'll still be able to enjoy the weather!" She fluffed out her feathers as she walked along side him to try and keep cool. "Oh -- look over there!" She ran ahead, up the rest of the hill and off the trail, stopping at the edge of a cliff and looking out at the scenery. "Wow, look at that view!"Cormac trotted over to catch up with his familiar, stopping to stand at her side to admire the mountains in the distance. They really did live in a vast, wide world, didn't they? And they'd seen to little of it! "It's amazing," he agreed, and the pair of them fell into a companionable silence for a little while to enjoy the moment. Soon enough, Cormac's stomach grumbled and he laughed sheepishly. "Maybe we should be on our way. I'm starting to get hungry." As he turned around to get back on the trail, he felt the ground suddenly give way beneath his hooves. Unsteady, he attempted to jump further inland but stumbled -- and he fell down the side of the cliff with a shout."Oh! Cormac!" Rhea shouted in surprise, flapping her wings as she flew across to solid ground to avoid falling. Unfortunately, her companion wasn't so lucky. When the dust settled, she peered over the edge, heart hammering in her chest, fearing the worst. "Oh, oh no, Cormac, don't move!" she cried out, hoping he could hear her. She couldn't believe how lucky he had been -- but she didn't know how long it was going to last. With a moan, Cormac tried to move his limbs to stand, but they just weren't cooperating. His head was still spinning, and his chest ached. He could hear Rhea calling out for him from... above? He squeezed his eyes shut and gave his head a little shake to try and reorient himself, but the movement made the ground beneath him shudder strangely. Opening his eyes, Cormac realized he wasn't on the ground at all. No -- that was far, far below him, and the only thing stopping him from falling the rest of the way was a flimsy tree that seemed to be straining under his weight. His body turned to ice, frozen in fear, afraid that the smallest move would send him toppling the rest of the way down. He wanted to look up to catch his familiar's eyes, to seek some sort of comfort that he was going to be alright -- but he didn't dare risk it. All he could do was try and remember to keep breathing. There was no way Rhea would be able to rescue him on her own, and she know he didn't have a lot of time, either. She... she was going to have to leave him all alone on that tree. What other choice did she have? Wait for help that might never come? No, she needed to seek it out. "I'm going to find help! I'll come back as fast as I can, just don't move! Please just hold on!" she yelled down at him as loud as her little voice could carry, and turned away to run off and find help.
She wasn't sure how long she'd been running for until she found someone who could potentially help. She'd encountered a few soquili, but none of them had wings, and there was no way anyone without wings would be able to help Cormac. All this time, she couldn't stop thinking of her dear friend suspended on that tree, alone and afraid. How long would it hold? Did she still have time? Was it already too late?
No! She couldn't think those things. She had to focus on finding help! After another encounter with someone else who couldn't help, she finally stumbled upon a winged mare. What's more, she had claws -- a hippogryph! Perfect! Oh, now Rhea just had to hope that she'd be willing to lend a claw...
"Hello!" she called out, running up to the dark mare and panting for breath. "Oh, hello, miss, oh please, I need your help!"Iolani had been relaxing and enjoying a peaceful sunbath when the loud chicken suddenly ran up to her, yelling for her help. Startled, she squawked and jumped upright onto her feet, head feathers flared out in alarm. "Whoa, whoa, slow down! What's going on? What do you need help with?" She glanced around quickly, fearing that the chicken might be being hunted by something -- but there was no immediate danger that she could see. She looked down at the trembling chicken with concern. "What's happened?"Rhea took a deep, hiccuping breath and started to explain, trying not to rush through her words so the mare would be able to understand her. "My friend fell off a cliff. He's a unicorn, a heavy draft, and he landed on a tree not far down from the edge -- but it's not going to hold his weight for long! Please, I need someone to help lift him from the tree and get him to safety. He won't survive if he falls!" she cried, tears finally spilling down her cheeks as the reality of the situation caught up with her. "Please!""I'll help!" Iolani cut in before the poor chicken tried to beg her again. She didn't need to beg, she was happy to help! But... a draft. Iolani knew she would be able to help, but she needed more wings. She wasn't strong enough on her own to lift a big soquili like that. "Listen, I can help but we need to find more soquili to help us. I'm just not strong enough to lift up a draft by myself. Hop on my back -- I passed by a couple soquili earlier, hopefully they're still there!" She lowered her wing and crouched down a little, letting the chicken climb up onto her back. "Hang on!" With that, Iolani took to the skies.
The pair of soquili weren't where she'd last seen them, but they weren't too far off. She swooped down to land, quickly running up to the pair of winged soquili -- an angeni and an alicorn. They both looked strong, too -- between the three of them, Iolani was sure they could help the stuck unicorn!Hadashah desperately wished this stallion would just stop talking. Or, at least, about anything other than himself. He tried not to cringe as the alicorn began boasting about his flying prowess, trying to figure out a good time to cut in so he could excuse himself. When he noticed the cute hippogryph mare approach them, a look of relief crossed his face. Maybe the interruption would be just the thing he needed to escape. Not for the first time, Hadashah wished he was more willing to be at least a little rude. "Well, hello there!" he greeting, and finally the annoying stallion stopped talking long enough to look and see who was joining them. She jumped off the hippogryph's back as they approached, fluttering to the ground in front of the two stallions. She was a little more collected now, having been able to rest for a short while on the mare's back, grateful for the break in running. "Please, you must help," Rhea began, but the green alicorn interrupted before she could continue."Help?" Hieronymus butted in, stepping forwards and puffing out his chest. "Why, you've come to the right stallion, little miss. I'm quite the hero myself," he said with a wink at Hadashah, as though they were friends (they weren't). "My name is Hieronymus! And my friend here is Hadashah, though I think you'll find I'm all the help you need. What's the emergency? Is there a fire? Are you being hunted by a shifter? They'll be no match for me!" he boasted."What? No, no, her friend is stuck!" Iolani cut in, trying to get them all back on track. "She said he fell off a cliff. He got caught on a tree, but he can't get back up himself, and I'm not strong enough on my own. We need more help -- could you both please come with us? To help her friend? Please, it's urgent!"Rhea nodded along in agreement. "I don't think the tree will hold his weight for long. It's already been hours, please, we really need both of you! Quickly!" she pleaded.Hadashah's mood instantly shifted when the newcomers began talking, and he turned out Hieronymus' voice so he could take in the situation. When the chicken finished speaking, he nodded once. "Of course we'll help." He didn't care if the alicorn wanted to or not; he knew enough by now that offering Hieronymus' help for him would force him to accept so as not to damage his image. "Please, lead the way. We'll follow immediately."Well, it wasn't very... glamorous, but if the angeni was going to help then Hieronymus couldn't very well say no. "Yes -- yes of course! My friend and I will be right behind you." Bah. It wasn't as though he needed help. He'd be able to save the chicken's friend all on his own! Typical angeni, always playing the hero. When the chicken jumped back onto the hippogryph's back, Iolani and Hadashah instantly took to the skies with the hippogryph in the lead, leaving Hieronymus scrambling to catch up.With Rhea's guidance, she was able to direct the group towards where she'd last left Cormac. As soon as they landed, Hadashah swiflty looked over the edge to assess the situation. After seeing the state and size of the tree, he was shocked it had been able to hold up the stallion for so long. He turned back to Iolani and Hieronymus to work out a plan of action. "Miss, you'll have to take point in the middle. You'll be able to grab on to him with your claws and lift, while Hieronymus and I go from below and push up. I think it would be safest to bring him back up here than lower him to the ground below -- it's a shorter distance. Keep away from the edge of the cliff in case there's still parts of it that are unstable." He flared out his wings, ready to take to the air again. "Are we all on the same page?"Hieronymus frowned at the angeni taking the lead on the rescue mission, as if he hadn't been the first one to volunteer to help in the first place. But when the mare nodded in agreement, Hieronymus went along with it and nodded too, albeit reluctantly. Angeni were so irritating. He thought they were friends! As Hadashah and Iolani flew down the side of the cliff towards the stuck stallion, he followed and took his place. When Iolani grabbed on and started to pull up, Hieronymus pushed up from below with the angeni to lift the stallion out of the tree. It was difficult -- only one of his wings was really free, the other flapping beneath the unicorn and trying not to get tangled up in the angeni's wings. It felt as though Hadashah wasn't pulling his weight at all, resting all of it on Hieronymus' shoulders! Did he just want credit for the rescue without doing any of the work!?Cormac could barely speak as he was lifted off the tree. In fact, he couldn't speak at all. He was still frozen in fear, unable to tear his eyes away from the ground far below him. There was still a chance he could fall. What if he was too heavy? What if one of them lost their grip? Oh, by the spirits, they could drop him! Breathe. Breathe. He had to remember to breathe. He had thought help would never come. Rhea had been gone for so long.. he had almost started to wonder if she would ever come back, but he knew that wouldn't be like her. Rhea would never abandon him. No, if she couldn't find help, she would have come right back to keep him company until... something happened. But he had been so afraid, and in such much pain from the impact...
He chanced a look up. They were nearly there! With one last, straining pull, the three of them god Cormac back over the edge of the cliff and on to solid ground again -- a good distance away from the edge. Iolani was panting from the effort as she watched the chicken run over to her companion and start fluttering all around him, checking to make sure he wasn't hurt. Iolani couldn't help but smile at how sweet she seemed, but also at their victory. She'd never saved someone's life before. She sniffed, feeling a little teary as the endorphins caught up with her and the adrenaline wore off. "Are -- are you okay?"Very suddenly, all at once, Cormac felt exhausted. He didn't even feel hungry anymore -- he just wanted to go home and go to sleep. He nuzzled Rhea, trying to reassure her that he was safe now, then looked up at the hippogryph who addressed him. "I'm... I'm fine. I think. Thank you all... so much. I really thought I was going to... well, thank you. My name is Cormac. I - I have no idea how I'll ever repay you all.""Not at all," Hadashah spoke up right away, wanting to make sure and respond before Hieronymus could. "We're just glad we were able to help. It does look like you've sustained some injuries, though... they don't appear serious. I can heal them for you, if you like, and I'd be happy to walk you and Rhea home." He knew what sheer terror felt like. It could take a lot out of you, and he wanted to make sure they got home safe. "My name is Hadashah, and this is Hieronymus. And... oh, I don't think I ever got your name," he said to the hippogryph."Oh! I -- I'm Iolani," she said with another sniff, smiling. "If it's okay, can I come with you? I just want to make sure you get home safe." She just... needed to see it. Both of them, safe in their homes. She didn't know why -- just that she did. This, here, was why Hieronymus worked best alone. This rescue was not going at all how he expected it to. "Well," he interrupted loudly, holding his head up high. "It is wonderful to have pulled off another daring rescue. You're welcome, of course -- it was a breeze! Regrettably, I have other matters to see to, so I'll let these two escort home. I'm sure they can handle it!"Cormac was just too tired and in too much pain to even comprehend what had just happened. He was just... grateful to be alive. "Er... well... yes, thank you. I don't think I'm in any shape to heal myself right now... and I think Rhea and I would both welcome the company. From both of you. I'm hardly confident I'll be able to walk right now," he admitted."That's alright, you just rest now," Rhea cooed over him, and then looked up at Iolani and Hadashah. "Thank you both so much. I know we've said it a lot, but I've spend my whole life bonded to Cormac and I can't imagine it without him now. When we get home, you two are welcome to stay as long as you like. Help yourselves to food or rest, or whatever else you need." She was probably going to fall asleep right along with Cormac as soon as they got back, but she'd play host to Iolani and Hadashah for as long as she could. It was the very least she could for for what they've done for her.

July 2024 That drink you had tasted a little strong or maybe that food tasted a little weird. Either way, something fermented way too long or was misidentified. This was not planned, it was an accident. Everything is starting to feel a little funny and look a little funny. In fact, everything is just funny. Tell me all about it (no fireworks). Tarashikomi wasn't sure what she drank -- or maybe it was something she ate? -- but she was feeling... floaty. Good. For some reason, she just couldn't stop smiling. Every time she moved her head, her brain felt all... spinny and swirly. It made her giggle. She rolled over onto her back on the ground, tail swishing in the leaves as she stared dazedly up at the sky. It was so... pretty! So so pretty. He eyes slipped closed and she hummed a little nonsense song to herself, enjoying the spinning, floaty feeling. When Parthenos discovered Tarashikomi, he stopped in his tracks. He'd... never seen her laying on her back before. It was strange, and as he got closer he realized she was humming to herself, too. Strange. "Uh... Tara? Are you... okay?"Tarashikomi's eyes popped open at the sound of Parthenos' voice, and she quickly rolled back over to lay on her belly, legs tucked underneath. The sudden movement made her head spin intensely. "Whooaaaa," she laughed, trying to focus on Parthenos. Gosh, he was so cute! So sweet and kind and the perfect size to curl around for cuddles. She loved him SO much! "Par-then-ooooos!" she sing-songed his name, giggling again. Her head flopped forward close enough to touch noses with him, so she bopped her nose against his and beamed. "You're amazing, you know?"Parthenos pulled back a little in confusion, unnerved by the way she was acting. "I... uh, thank you?" He was flattered, but the strangeness of the situation dampened his spirits. He was worried... this wasn't like Tarashikomi at all. "I think you're pretty great too... are you sure you're feeling alright?" he asked again, hoping to try and get to the bottom of what caused this.Tarashikomi laughed -- again. "I'm feeling great! You're great. Everything's... so great. Wow, great is a funny word, isn't it? Greeeeat," she said with a giggle, the flopped over to lay on her side. She hummed, eyes fluttering closed again briefly before focusing on Parthenos again, faint smile still on her face. "I'm soooo glad we met. Best thing to ever happen to me. 'Cept that shifter baby..." she mumbled, her brows furrowing and a frown forming on her face. "That... I didn't like that."Parthenos had just begun to start smiling along with her until the sudden shift in the conversation. "No, I didn't either... but if it hadn't happened, we might not have met. And everyone escaped alive, you took care of the shifter, and Yamato-e made a full recovery. I wish that no one had to get hurt but I'm really glad we met, too. Everything worked out, so it's okay!" he said, trying to cheer her back up. She'd been so happy just a moment ago. Well, almost too happy, but he would rather that than sad.She sat up again, suddenly, and the giggled bubbled back up. "Yeah! Everything turned out... great," she emphasized the last word, making herself laugh. "But, but..." she paused for a giggle, and leaned in close to Parthenos' head. "Wanna know a secret?" She was aiming for a whisper, but wasn't very successful."Um, okay," Parthenos replied, unable to fight of the worry, but smiling again -- it was a little infectious. "You can tell me anything," he assured, tilting his head towards her head, curious about what she had to say.Through her giggles, Tarashikomi leaned in to put her mouth near Parthenos' ears, and whispered. "I didn't kill the shifter," she said in a hushed tone, fighting to keep back her laughter. It didn't... feel like something she should laugh about, but for some reason, it was hard not to. "It -- it was just a baby. I couldn't kill a baby. I just let it run away," she confessed, and this time when she pulled away from his ears, she giggled again.Parthenos' heart sank, a feeling of ice cold horror seeping into his bones. The shifter... was still alive? By now, it was probably a full grown adult. It... it had probably killed. She let it live and now...
He pulled away, horrified, and not understanding why Tarashikomi was laughing. This was horrible! That thing had tried to kill him and she let it get away!? Sure, it had been just a foal, but... but...
Parthenos wasn't sure he would have been able to go through with it either. It was a shifter, but Tarashikomi was right -- it was also just a foal. "I wish you'd have just... told the truth," he said, shaking his head. "I - I would have supported you! You didn't have to lie to me. Or to your mom... or Yama! We all love you so much, we would've figured it out!"Tarashikomi was feeling... tired. It was hard to keep her eyes open. But then Parthenos said something that caught her attention and perked her right back up. She whirled her head around to stare at him, head spinning, which only served to make her laugh again. That felt so fun! No, no -- don't get distracted! "You love me?" she asked, suddenly feeling a little teary, overwhelmed with emotion. "Really?"Parthenos froze. He... hadn't meant to say that. At least, not this way. She was acting so strange, and the topic had been so heavy -- and important. He wasn't done with that conversation yet, but... she needed to sleep whatever this was off. "I... I do, yeah. But we don't need to talk about this now. You're still acting... strange. Maybe you should rest," he suggested, urging her to lay back down. She went easily, smiling at him as though he hung the moon. It made his face feel warm. "I'll bring you some water, okay? And I'll stay and watch over you to make sure you're alright."Tarashikomi hummed, her eyes slipping closed again. "My hero," she murmured sleepily. With a sigh, Parthenos went off to collect some water for her to drink, and let Yamato-e and Cygnus know where they were and what was going on. He didn't mention what he and Tarashikomi had talked about, though. After coaxing Tarashikomi to drink the water, he settled down beside her as she finally fell asleep. Deciding to get some rest himself, he lay his head down on her shoulders and closed his eyes.

October 2024 Tell me a ghost story or something unsettling that happened to your soquili or familiar or someone close to them (who is believable). It cannot be just anyone or told by your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. You get the drift, it has to something that hasn't gone so far through the rumor mill/telephone tree that you can't trace the origin on the story. You can go fully uncanny valley if you want. It's been two years now, but Casimir could still remember the day the sun turned black like it was yesterday. It still gave him goosebumps to think about… but at least he hadn’t faced it alone. Lantana had helped ease his mind a great deal, even though she hadn’t understood what had happened either — her optimistic outlook had been enough. Casimir was getting better at that, too. He looked over to his unlikely companion, whose eyes were half lidded as he relaxed next to Casimir. He almost look like he was on the verge of falling asleep, with the sun hitting them just right to make them warm and toasty.
“Do you remember when the sun disappeared?” Casimir asked.Brisco startled out of his doze to blink at him, confused. Had he heard Casimir right? He tilted his head a little as he regarded his friend curiously. “The... what? What'd you say?”“The sun,” Casimir said, smiling as he watched Brisco try and shake off the sleep. “Two years ago. It disappeared and turned day into night.” It had been very hard to miss. Surely Brisco had seen it too?Brisco grinned at him, huffing a small laugh. “I’m pretty sure that’s a very normal thing to happen. You know, the sun sets, the moon comes up… kinda does that every day, not just two years ago. S'why it's called night time.”Casimir rolled his eyes, shaking his head. Obviously. “No, no -- this was different. It had been midday. A black shadow moved across the sky and covered the sun… you really hadn’t seen it? I think it’s something you would have remembered. I don't think anyone could have missed it. The whole sun was just... gone! Far, far sooner than it should have been.”Brisco tried to think back. What had he been doing two years ago? Hell if he could remember. His days and nights typically blended together. He certainly hadn’t had any friends back then, so if anyone else had seen the shadowed sun, there was no one who would’ve told him about it. He was also pretty nocturnal. Could he have really slept through something like that? He narrowed his eyes at Casimir, suspicious. “Nah, you’re pulling my leg,” he accused lightly. “You can’t block out the sun. Not even stormy clouds do that. Sun still shines through. Gets a bit darker, sure, but not like you're saying.”“It’s true!” Casimir insisted. “It wasn’t clouds. It — it was pitch black. I had been convinced it was an omen. There were stories in my family about something like that happening. To them, it meant something good. That it would bring our family power. I don’t know if that’s true, but seeing the sun go out like that… it was terrifying.”Brisco fell silent, a chill racing down his spine from the way Casimir described that day. It didn’t sound real. How hadn’t he seen it? Heard of it? Did Casimir really see what he thought he saw — or had it been a dream? A nightmare? Especially if his family had told him stories about something like that happening, putting the idea into his head. “Uh, how… how could your family’ve known something like that would happen? Seems like a pretty far fetched story.”A valid question. Casimir had wondered the same thing. “They said it had happened before… a long time ago. I don’t know if my parents had been alive for the last one,” he shook his head. The details of the story weren’t that specific, and he’d never felt inclined to ask any further questions. The whole idea of it terrified him. “I have to wonder how far fetched it really is if I saw it happen.”“What was it like? Did you feel any different? If it was supposed to make your family stronger, then wouldn’t you have felt something?” Brisco wondered. Casimir probably would have mentioned it already if that was the case, but he was curious. Maybe it could have enhanced his healing powers, but he'd have no way to know until he needed to use them.“No. I just felt… scared, that’s all. I hadn’t been alone, either. There was an usdia with me named Lantana. She had a much more positive outlook on the whole situation than I did,” Casimir said with a laugh. “So I can’t say if anything actually happened like my family said it would. The sun is hard to look at on a normal day, but this was different… I felt like if I looked, it would have seared my eyes. The world got darker. Quieter. It was like every creature was holding their breath, waiting for what would happen next… and the sun was swallowed up in a dark cave. You know, I’m not actually sure how long it stayed that way. Much shorter than night time. Before we knew it, the shadow was gone and the sun was back out again. And the world woke up, like nothing had happened.”Brisco had fallen silent while Casimir spoke, his fur standing on end from the eerie picture that Casimir described. He'd thought it might have been interesting to see, but now he was kind of glad he hadn't. Maybe it was for the best -- or maybe Casimir was just very good at weaving a spooky tale. It can't have been as creepy as all that, could it? "Well... I'm glad nothing seems to have come of it. We're all still here and the sun has been back to normal ever since, as far as I know. Maybe your little friend Lantana knew what she was talking about, huh?" he offered Casimir a grin to try and lighten the mood.Casimir chuckled at that, feeling a little lighter. Brisco was right. Lantana had been right, too. It had been frightening at the time, but when the sun had come out again the world seemed to have returned to normal. The sun rose and set at its scheduled times, and the only thing that tried to cover it up again these days were the clouds. "And I'm glad for that!"

December 2024 Namely, do you remember that time you saw a cute little bunny with blood on it that happened to be not so cute, but rather a malevolent urban legend that chased you through the woods? Asmodeus didn't normally bother scavenging in the canyon during the winter. The materials he was interested in were more abundant in warmer weather, but he'd run out of a few things that needed replacing right away. His spoils after a day of searching were slim, so he was already in a poor mood by the time he reached the only exit only to find the path blocked by a soquili with oddly long ears. He was no stranger to soquili with mutations; he knew the spikes on his own tail were not considered normal for a pureblooded kalona. Still, the sight of the long eared soquili gave him pause, remembering an encounter he'd had with a rabbit shifter not too long ago.
His wings gave him an advantage, but he was feeling antagonistic and a fight might be fun, so he decided to face this soquili head on. Asmodeus glowered as he approached, every part of his body language signaling that he wasn't there to play nice. The rabbit soquili, unfortunately, seemed oblivious to Asmodeus' hostility. Instead, he visibly brightened when he saw another soquili approach him, with not a hint of wariness that something might actually be wrong. "Hi, hello! Ah, I'm so gland I ran into somebody else out here," he said with a sheepish laugh. "So sorry to bother, but I'm actually new to the area, you see, and I'm trying to find my brother -- only, I seemed to have gotten a little turned around! The courier he sent mentioned this canyon in the directions, but I can't find the next landmark, so I was wondering if you would -- oh!" The rabbit soquili jumped back a little, startled, when the kalona snapped his teeth at him."You think me a fool?" Asmodeus snarled. What sort of game was the shifter playing at? Did he think no one would realize what he really is? He advanced on the rabbit soquili, flaring his wings to make himself look even bigger, pleased when the rabbit soquili had the audacity to look scared as if it wasn't some bloodthirsty, mindless beast. "I know what you are," he hissed, "you pathetic shifter. Did you really think acting like a clueless, innocent little creature would lure in your victims?" Asmodeus paused to grin. "Luckily for you, I've had a bad day; maybe a fight might cheer me up a little."Alarmed, the rabbit soquili quickly backed away from Asmodeus. There was no mistaking the kalona's threatening posture or words now. "I-I don't know what you mean!" he squeaked, his eyes darting back and forth anxiously as he tried to plan an escape, ears flattened backwards in fear. "I'm not a shifter, I swear! My brother and I were j-just... born with big paws and ears! But we can't shift!" he insisted, hoping that if he could convince the kalona he wasn't actually a shifter, he would be left alone. Dread crawled up his spine -- he wasn't entirely sure even that would save him. "P-please, I don't want any trouble," he whimpered. "I really am just lost..."Asmodeus laughed cruelly. What a sad little lie. He lunged at the rabbit soquili with a snarl and whipped out with his tail, catching the rabbit soquili on the shoulder with the spikes on his tail, drawing blood. With a terrified shout, the rabbit soquili turned and tried to run, but Asmodeus was faster. He pushed off the ground with his wings and cut off the rabbit soquili's escape route easily, grinning. "Come on, now. When are you going to drop the act, little bunny? Go on, shift. I wouldn't mind bringing home some rabbit for dinner," he sneered. The sound of a scuffle in the canyon drew in Brisco's curiosity, and when he peaked over the cliff to spy some big kalona bullying a cute bunny soquili, he felt a growl in the back of his throat and knew he was going to have to interfere. He quickly made his was down to the entrance, and as he approached he was able to overhear some of the kalona's words. This guy thought the bunny soquili was... a shifter? What an idiot. Well, if he wanted a fight with a shifter, he was going to get one. Brisco snarled when he got closer, grinning when that drew the attention of both the soquili. "That bunny isn't a shifter... but I am," he growled, flashing his teeth. He tilted his head up a little, showing off the charm on his neck. There would be no mistaking what that was. "Still looking for a fight?" he taunted. The rabbit soquili seemed to all but be trying to sink into the wall of the cliff as Brisco got closer, pleased that Asmodeus was backing up too. He situated himself between them, facing the kalona. "Maybe you should try picking on someone your own size?" Asmodeus was large for a kalona, but Brisco was still bigger, despite what he was before the curse.Ah. It seemed he'd miscalculated. Asmodeus' darted his eyes over to the rabbit soquili, now realizing he had missed one crucial detail; the line of separation between body and pelt that the wolf shifter so clearly possessed. Rather than admit his mistake, Asmodeus rolled his eyes. "I'm not interested in wasting time on a squabble over food. Enjoy your meal," he scoffed, and spread his wings, taking off to head home.Brisco watched the kalona fly off with an incredulous laugh. What a coward. He turned to the cute bunny soquili, relaxing his posture, trying not to look too intimidating. "You okay?" he asked, glancing at the bleeding scratches on his shoulder with a frown. "Looks like he nicked you a little. I could help you find a healer, if you want."The rabbit soquili was frozen against the side of the cliff, still trembling, watching the wolf shifter with unease. He was acting... so different than he had with the kalona. "Y-you're not... going to eat me?" he whimpered.Brisco's heart sank, cringing as he backed away from the bunny soquili. He sighed. Of course, even after saving someone, he was still the threat. "I'm not like that. I'm charmed, see? On my neck. Look, I'll keep my distance. But how about I give you some directions, yeah? Then you can be on your way. Your injury doesn't look too bad; you'll be fine if you want to wait."Hesitantly, the rabbit soquili nodded. He allowed himself to relax, just a little. He was still so shaken up by the encounter with the kalona he just couldn't bring himself to trust his own savior. He was still a shifter, and he knew what most of them were like. But Brisco was true to his word; he gave him directions to where he knew a herd of unicorns were, as well as the next landmark on the list of directions he was trying to follow. Trying to be polite, he still mumbled a quick thank you before he ran off as fast as he could. He was relieved when he realized the wolf shifter wasn't following, but he kept traveling on through the night, just in case. He hoped his brother's welcome into these new lands were much friendlier.
