I personally think that the imprinting iddea was ingenuis. I loved it. And as I finished Eclipse, I began thinking, is Edward, in some way, imprinted to Bella? I beleive that this would explain the way he cannot hear Bella's thoughts, and why her scent to so strong to him, to draw him toward her. It also explains in, a way, why he wanted to defend her in the first chaper in Midnight Sun, in the part where Bella first sees the Cullens. Jessica is thinking some mean things and Edward wants to protect Bella from them. (The first chaper can be found here)
