Story

In Japan, there is an all-girls boarding school named, Mahora Academy. To most everyone, it is normal school district within the Kanto region hosting students from the elementary level to college graduates. Their classes are exactly the same as those offered around the country, though seemingly focused on a general education without high specializations. However, within the campus walls there are users of the arcane arts. Mages, both good and evil, have secretly integrated themselves into the community, doing everything from attending classes to operating the whole school. Magical people run around trying to solve problems, or create them in some cases, for others, all without revealing the existence of magic. And that's on an ordinary day.

This is not an ordinary day, or to be more precise, days. The once-a-year event known as MahoraFest is in full swing. It is a three day, school-wide carnival that draws in crowds from all over the region to participate in a city-size free-for-all of fun, romance, and amazing spectacles. Every year draws in millions of people to the unique experience and confess their love beneath the boughs of the World Tree, which is an amazing 120 meters tall. Every class and club also creates an attraction for fun and profit, giving all the more reason for high attendance to the Jr. High, Sr. High, and College sponsored event.

But there is more that occurs than many even realize. A look beyond the surface reveals dozens of stories of magic and survival unfolding, unseen despite the multitude of witnesses. Despite the World Tree peaking in magical power last year, the balance of order and chaos is still at stake. Threats to the mage's community will always exist to make things difficult. All it takes is one pair of eyes to tip the scale.

Class and System Explanations

Mages: Also known as Western Wizards, or Magi. These magical people draw their power from the world around them to use in their elemental-based spells. Anyone who has gone through official mage training knows that the existence of magic is to be kept secret from the world. Failure to do so is punishable by having the license revoked and/or being transformed into a small critter. If someone should see them using magic, punishment can be avoided by erasing that individual's memory of the event, or by having them become their partner (see Pactios). Self-trained mages also understand the need for keeping the existence of magic a secret, and are still held accountable for their actions. Using magic to defend one's self is perfectly legal, especially so when confronted by other mages or magical beings, such as vampires and demons. Regardless of the situation, it is best to not use magic in front of mundanes if possible.

Onmyou-ji: Also known as Eastern Sorcerers or Talisman Users. Onmyou-ji use paper seals to cast their magic and to summon demons. These skills are chi-based, or rather, draw upon the energy from within themselves instead of from nature. Because of their ability to summon a demon partner, they see no need to form Pactios with others and thus cannot. Up to two demons can be summoned at a time, of which there are two types, Protective and Superior. They can also use variations on the spells western wizards use, if they make a seal to do so. In many cases, if the seal is damaged the spell is broken. They are not required to keep their skills a secret from the rest of the world, as many more can believe in chi than magic, but it is still a good idea for them not to be flashy.

Mundanes: Anyone who doesn't practice some form of magic, Western or Eastern, is a Mundane. Common, everyday people that have no knowledge of the magic world around them. The ability to use martial arts, and their own inner chi that it is designed to release, are actually considered Fighters. Those that form a Pactio with a mage are no longer considered Mundane, but Partners. Partners can have the Pactio revoked, but only under their and the mage's consent, in which a ceremony that takes half a day to perform essentially kills the card.

Familiars: Typically an animal or other small being that gives advise to a mage. Unable to cast elemental magic and too weak for real combat, there are some spells they can perform, the Pactio ritual and Telepathy jamming are two of them. Examples of known familiars are; Negi Springfield's Ermine, Chamo, and Evangeline's knife-wielding, stringless marionette, Chachazero. Familiars are fully independent beings and do not need to remain around their mage. Blending in with natural things of the world, they are able to scour up information and eavesdrop without being readily noticed.

Pactio: A magical ceremony in which a mage and non-mage form a partnership. This process involves both the mage and his partner to stand within a magic circle and seal the contract with a kiss or an exchanging of blood. A mage is only capable of having one permanent Pactio, but it is possible to form 'Probationary Contracts' with many others before deciding on that life-long partner. As a result of forming a Pactio, two cards of the partner are formed. The partner's card is capable of transforming into an artifact that reflects a characteristic of theirs on command, which the partner decides what artifact it is that they received from the Pactio, and provides the ability to communicate to the mage telepathically. The mage's copy of the card allows him to send his partner some of his energy, thus powering up his partner, communicate telepathically, and summon his partner to him. The mage has absolutely no access to his partner's artifact. Mages are incapable of forming Pactios with characters who's primary skill is Onmyou (though another class that dabbles in Onmyou can), as their magics interfere with one another.

Spells and Spell Keys: Spells are incantations spoken in either Latin or Greek, and occasionally Sanskrit. For the Western Mages, their spells are typically linked with an element, which can yield different effects. Some elements have unique spells that do not work any other way, such as Shadow Puppets can only be used by Dark magic users. I won't make you look up the languages, just put translations in brackets to indicate that it was incanted properly. Spell Keys are short phrases that grant Western Mages access to their magical power. Typically, the larger spells require the Spell Key to be spoken, and each mage has their own key. Onmyou-ji do not use spell keys, though writing seals takes about the same amount of time.

Learning new spells: It is quite possible to learn a new spell, though it takes rigorous studying and practice. Nothing comes easy, even for a master. Well, maybe for a master, only if that spell is related to another in which they can derive knowledge from. New spells, for the young, must be found either through a book or another mage willing to teach their skill. To claim a spell for your own, it takes at least the equivalent of six, non-consecutive posts.

Common Spells
Barriers Personal shields or bigger ones for the whole group. Physical and magical. Separate spells, but to know 'barrier' is to know both.

Bursts of Element Gust of wind, flame, lightning jolt. Just some small example of an element.

Flight Levitates a staff or broom so the mage can fly on it. Doesn't work on just anything the mage picks up. Includes optional cloaking and a kind of field that inhibits (but doesn't completely prevent) falling off.

Fly-trap A magic circle that ensnares enemies. Like wind arrows but can be hidden and set-up in advance to trigger when someone steps into it.

Fog of Sleep Creates a mist in the area that lulls non-combatants to sleep. The effects last about an hour. Enemies resist the effects of this spell automatically, as they are in a heightened state of alertness and are ready to react.

Healing Mends wounds, neutralize poisons, and reverses status-changing spells, such as petrification. Curses are immune to the effects of healing, and must be removed another way.

Large Elemental Spell Incantations can cause large effects at the use of more magic. These elemental spells are diverse and cause alterations more manifest in reality. Wind users may create a tornado for a barrier, Ice users might freeze a large area of land, and Fire users may call forth fireballs of meteor proportions, just for examples of what is possible. Excellent for attacking large groups or dealing with a powerful enemy, though it does have a drawback. These larger spells require more time to cast, requiring two posts, one to recite the spell and another to use it. Can be evaded if one is paying attention, but if not avoided, it does serious damage [see 'Rules of Engagement']

Levitation of objects Can enable you to throw them forcefully as well. Limited effects on humans; can be resisted by magic-users (magic or chi-based types). Can replace flight, but since it doesn't include the field to render the mage invisible to others or to inhibit falling off, it's riskier.

Magic arrows Shots of magic elemental energy, used for offense. Ice-, Shadow-, and Wind-based ones are used to ensnare enemies, Ice-, Fire-, Light-, and Shadow-based arrows are used to destroy objects, and Lightning-based arrows are used to stun enemies. These magical projectiles can be controlled by the mage, choosing where to fire from, their direction as they sail through the air, and where to strike. Their elemental properties also manifest the whole time as well.

Pactio Activates a certain magic circle to form a contract. Most familiars can do this, but if you don't want one, the mage can learn it. If the mage learns it, they must find someone to activate the pactio and to declare the contract formed (like when Chamo says 'pactio!!' and 'contract complete').

Seal Neutralizes and freezes magical beings of lesser power, and the gap must be noticeable for it to work. Students find themselves capable of sealing the power of faeries and some familiars, not each other. A Magus, however, can seal the powers of many more, except for fellow Maguses. Powers become unsealed at the end of 24 hours, game time, in which they have full access once again.

Shundo-jutsu Normally a chi-based move for instant movement, though magic can replicate the same effects. It's very fast running in a straight line, so it can be countered or dodged, though only by very skilled people.

Strengthen Heightens the mage's physical abilities so that they are stronger and faster in physical combat. It does not make the mage an expert in any way, but can level the playing field. This spell only works on the one who casts it and cannot be cast on others.

Telepathy Comes with pactio cards, but that only allows telepathy between the owners of that exact pair. Learning this spell is more versatile, as it allows communication with whomever you choose, assuming they aren't being mentally blocked. Also, it can be used to scan the surface thoughts of what an individual is actively thinking, but doesn't work with sealed beings.

Wind disarm A gust of wind blows the enemy's weapon from their hand. So far proven to be 100% effective.

Rules

-Keep it PG-13. No cybering or graphic violence, following Gaia's Terms of Service. Swearing is acceptable, but try to avoid excessive use of them. It's understandable to have a character use an abundance of curse words. [i'm actually pretty ok with swearing as far as quantity. some characters just lend themselves to swearing, and i'd like the people playing them to be able to express themselves that way]
-No God modding/Power playing. Give courtesy to each player by respecting their actions. During any fight, do not self determine that all your attacks hit and cause critical injury or death.
-Characters may be Original or already Established in the series. If choosing to play an Established character, do not completely change their personality dramatically. Some minor changes are ok, but their core values should be the same. Original characters are allowed to back-stories involving Established characters.
-Students may set-up an attraction. It is not a requirement to be involved directly with MahoraFest events, and posts involving the construction of an attraction is not required either. Each class operates only one event.
-Post in Third Person format. Transcript is also acceptable, but not the preferred choice of style. Also, double-posting is not allowed under any circumstance.
-Limit Three Main Characters. To increase character count and keep things flowing and interesting (and because Negima is essentially Love Hina without the large cast), you may now control three main characters. You may also create a familiar, partner or chief protective demon for each as well, for a total of six characters.
-You are being watched! Western wizards must not let the world at large become aware of magic. Watchers are traveling through the crowds incognito, and will not hesitate to punish those who show off their magic indiscriminately. If nobody opts to be one of them (they would be mages, so use that skeleton for them), i will play them.

Rules of Engagement
The following rules are used solely for the purpose of keeping fights fair and avoid unintentional god modding.

-Posts involving combat are to be labeled. This is a simple tag at the beginning of the post reading [Fight Round X], where 'X' is the number of posts you have so far for this particular fight. Combat is over when the second player reaches 10 posts. If there is no clear winner, the GM will decide who won.
-Roll Dice using the Post Action drop-down. Unless you are the one initially engaging the fight, roll 1d6 for each attack presented to determine how many hit and miss. This means you must put in your Fight Tag and hit submit to see your numbers rolled. Roll once for every person you attack/ defend against.
-Read your Rolls and then Edit the post. An attack makes contact for each 1,3, and 5 that is rolled. Rolls of 2,4, and 6 are counted towards missing completely or being dodged. You choose what hits you and the severity that that attack actually has on you. Just because something is aimed at your chest doesn't mean it will hit there. You cannot nullify an attack to do no damage when you have been hit. Also, include your counter-attacks in your post to keep things moving and prevent fights from becoming one-sided.
-Do not delete your posts due to bad rolls. Just because you're getting hit by everything doesn't mean you should cheat. Remember, your getting to choose how hard your being hit, please be reasonable with this, and not everything is always going to go your way. There is no shame in defeat, especially so when killing is not allowed, when overwhelmed. If it comes to that, there's always the chance to escape. Feel good about yourself in knowing that you played fair, even if the dice worked against you.

Accepted Profiles

Mages

Played by: crono04
Name: Negi Springfield
Age: 10
Sex: Male
Description:Negi Springfield
Personality: Determined when danger appears, very kind to students. Easy-going as a teacher.
Element: Wind
Known spells: Arrows, Disarm, Strengthen, Large wind/lightning, Barrier, Summon wand, Shundo, Flight, Fly-trap, Fog of sleep
Spell key: Rastel maskil magister
Bio: Having spent his young life learning magic so he could find his father, the legendary mage known as the Thousand Master, Negi was assigned to teach at Mahora as the homeroom/English teacher of girls' jr. high class 3-A. Since then, he's been training with students Evangeline and Ku-Fei to improve his magical and combat abilities.
Partner(s): (for now, i'm gonna clean the partner slate in case someone decided to play one of them but doesn't want to partner with him)
Notes: Can get panicky, but a gentleman through and through.

Played by: Dartmoor
Name: Tenkyuu, Chiyoko
Age: 14
Sex: Female
Description: Chiyoko
Personality: Chiyoko is bright, bubbly, and quite capable of being added to the Baka Rangers. She loves to have fun both day and night.
Element: Dark
Known spells: Cantrips, Fire Arrows, Flight, Kage-Bushin (Shadow Clone), Pactio, Seal, Shadow Arrows, Shadow Barrier, Shadow Beast, Shadow Puppet
Spell key: Lic lac la lac lilac
Bio: Born in the slightly out of phase magic world, Chiyoko has been learning to use magic from a very young age. This has allowed her to learn, and use, unincanted spells proficiently. For her assignment upon graduating from the magic academy at levels beyond the top of her class, she is to be a full-time student, which she totally hates. Loving to do things that absolutely fun, like casting magic, Chiyoko loves not doing anything not fun, like sitting in class. As a member of Class 3-B it is, more often than not, a shadow clone that drones through the lectures, and her grades have suffered for it. At times, she has been known to cast magic in front of people, which she follows up by using a cantrip spell, thus convincing people she is merely a street magician and can continue on without knowing that magic is real.
Partner(s): [None. ...yet.]
Notes: Chiyoko owns a replica of Harry Potter's Firebolt broom, which she uses for transportation. Her leather wristbands are her catalyst for spells, thus avoiding the need to pull out a wand.

Onmyou-ji

Played by: tiger12
Name: Anise Pantera
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Description: http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j26/tigeress12/ACACerementargerad.png

Personality: When she gets to know someone she tends to talk alot more than when they first met. She comes of as cold and untrusting at first, but she is really friendly and loyal to the end once you gain her trust. She also tends to be sneaky which causes her to get into alot of trouble.
Element: Onmyou
Known spells: Two summons (Vittorio and Wray ), A barrier, Shundo-jutsu, healing, and an escape seal that leads either to the school, a hospital or her home.
Bio: Anise used to go to an all ladies acadamy, but was transfered to this school because of "problems with other students" and some "Incidents". One of the incidents was when she burnt down half of the school. Some of the students figured it was her, but there wasn't any substantial evidence against her.
Partner(s): None, has a summon.

Fighters
Played by[b/]: Dartmoor
Name: Alya Zhenya
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Description:Alya
Personality: Humorously serious in that she takes everything at face value, incapable of detecting sarcasm, and willing to follow orders/requests.
Discipline: Kage-ryu and Shinkage-ryu Sword Styles
Other Abilities: Barrier, Bushin-justsu, Familiar Summon, Aisu-gami, Shundo
Bio: Alya is a Russian-born vampire, raised in the seventeenth century during the conflict between Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Sweden. It was a perfect time for being able to sustain the initial need for blood, though soon enough the war had ended and the time to go underground came. Heading East, she made her way to Japan where she took up the sword and the Kage-ryu style. Learning all that she could within a few years, the return to Russia to avoid being discovered came. Hearing about another vampire that was coming into the area, Alya had the unique opportunity to live with Evangeline A.K. Mcdowell for a short period of time (30 some years). They counter-balanced each other in their personalities, and as such, the Doll Master and the Sword Master have never gotten along very well. After hearing about Al's appearence at last year's Budokai, Alya has returned to Japan. With permission of the headmaster, she now attends Mahora as a foreign exchange student.
Notes: Kage-ryu techniques are kendo (unsheathed) and Shinkage-ryu techniques are iaido (sheathed) based.

Played by: crono04
Name: Ku-Fei
Age: 15
Sex: Female
[b:rdwdwu
on:[Sex: Dark-skinned Chinese, blond hair.
Personality: Silly normally but when it's time to fight, she's all business. An all-in-all cheerful person, not unlike Makie if Makie could easily kick your a** and the asses of twenty of your friends.
Discipline: Hsing I Chuan, Pa Kua Zhang (both Chinese combat disciplines)
Other Abilities: Chi 'push' (see the fight against Mana in the manga), Shundo (learned between then and now), some cooking
Bio: Transfer student from China and third-strongest fighter in 3-A (behind Kaede and Mana), Ku-Fei has been teaching Negi how to fight. Along the way, it's quite possible she's developed some very un-teacherly feelings toward him, not that she'd display them if she did. Affiliations include Chinese Martial Arts club, White Wing (Negi's group of partners, disbanded temporarily), Chao Bao Zi (waitress), Baka Rangers (Baka Yellow).
Notes: Picks up new skills easily. "[she's] good at everything but study."

Mundanes

Played by: Laxce
Name: Demytri Alice
Age: 23
Sex: Female
Description:
Demytri is a bisexual. She is not confused of her sexuality, rather, she is intrigued by the aspirations both sexes hold in their standards for finding mates. Having a deep knowledge of herself and her ambitions, she usually takes greater effort in looking for ways to achieve self-contentment instead of someone equipped with the love she believes herself to deserve.
Personality:
Reserved and intelligent, she is a surprisingly cunning Mundane. Somewhat twisted in a sadist way, she enjoys the pain of others to an extent. She's not generally submissive, as she is stuck in some of her ways, and prefers to be more dominant in her ventures. Being a "sidekick" is a repulsive idea to her, but under certain circumstances may be willing to change her mind if the right partner is discovered.
Talents or skills:
She lacks any abnormal skills or talents besides the ability to focus Chi and release it in the form of semi-powerful static electricity, and is known to use this "talent" to taze or stun those in her way. On rare occasions, she has been able to control her Chi and potentially give life to plants.
Bio:
Demytri loves knowledge above all; even herself. She has devoted her life accordingly to the study of human behavior and the reasons people become attracted to one-another. Her main areas of interest are human sexuality, psychology, and group sociology. She has degrees in all of these subjects and is well aware of her expertise in said fields. Before gaining these levels of intelligence, she was the assistant of a professor whom she had respected dearly until "the Doctor", as Demytri calls him, cracked under the pressure of those around him and took his own life, causing Demytri to be scarred mentally in a fear of becoming connected to someone in a devoted manner.
Notes:
Demytri is very conceited and thinks highly of herself, though has moments of insecurity during which she hides away in her room for days at a time, refusing to communicate with others. Her relationship with the Doctor was bordered between Father--Daughter and Lover--Devotee, misleading herself and mixing the feelings that differed certain types of relationships. She has always pictured herself more of the male physique, and rather than going against "nature", she chooses to act in the position of a male by dressing and acting as such.

Familiars

Played by: crono04
Name: Chamo
Age: i dunno. adult?
Sex: Male
Species: Ermine
Personality: Perverted but helpful. Knowledgeable about the inner workings of magic.
Notes: Can perform pactios and will for any mage for a fee.

How are you all not leaping at the chance to join a magical freakin' carnival of fun and wonders!? What's with you people?

I did say you could be an original character.

((I think what tiger ment was that there really shouldn't be an option for playing established characters. Plus, anyone who would choose Evangaline would likely have the barrier restricting her power fall. I'd be more inclined to join if I know it will be more than just MahoraFest that this is taking place in. Can't have everyone time travel *as if that wouldn't throw everyone for a loop*. XD))

I really wish i could say this out loud because i know it'll sound and i don't mean it that way. But, if you don't want to be a character you didn't create, don't be. The whole reason i said original characters were ok was because i wanted people to make up their own characters, but i also wanted for established ones to be available. Same for Evangeline's barrier. Yes, someone might do that, but to put a restriction on actions that aren't generally 'illegal' makes too many gray areas in the rules. 'If she can't restore her power, Satomi should be locked out of her lab or all of Haruna's pens break'. If somebody does try to do that, someone will have to try to stop her and may the more cunning player win. Posting things like 'the barrier is down now' when no previous mentions were made of attempting it is out.

As for time-travel, the odds on that are very slim. The only way that could happen is if somebody decides to be Lingshen (which is unlikely), they give somebody a Cassiopeia and they decide to jump around time. I should have said this before and am going to edit the first post, but so as not to contradict the real story, this MahoraFest is not the one in the manga; its the one 'next year'. So time-travel is very, very unlikely.

Finally, MahoraFest is only three days long. If the game's time goes past three days, its not longer MahoraFest. Besides, you can leave campus if you want to. I just thought a giant celebration like this would provide a good backdrop for stories and good 'ins' for original characters.

Dartmoor

(Me thinks it is time to get this RP moving. ^_^ Oh, and I'm in need of a room mate if anyone wants to take that up [Alya is in the wrong grade, thus can't be]. First post is always the hardest to gain interactions, desu ne? Beware! I do stick in small parts japanese since this RP is in Japan, but it won't be anything complicated. I'm trying to teach myself...=P)

It was morning and the sun hadn't even risen over the horizon when the blue-eyes opened. Had it been any other day, the girl would have continued sleeping, though today was different. Rolling off the top-bunk, she fell to the floor like a rock. "Itai!" she exclaimed, all the while rubbing the back of her head.

Getting up from the floor, using the ladder as a prop, she rubbed her eyes before heading for the corridor door. Not paying attention, her forehead plowed into the hard wood. "It-ai-ai-ai!" Rubbing, she could only hope that there wouldn't be a bruise. "It's too early for this, de yo." Opening the door, she went over to the large community bathing area.

Arriving in the locker room, she undressed and Toke a towel before entering the grand bath of the dormitory. The large pool area was still empty, along with the three hot tubs and the wall of showers unused. It was nice to have such a luxurious space, especially to one's self in the early hours. Stepping into the gazeboo hot tub, which was right next to the main pool, she began dozeing off in the warm, relaxing water. "Ah.... It be nice to be here before the others. So much cleaner, de yo."

(Grand Bath as I was trying to describe. Translations for the must know. Desu ne? = Isn't it? Itai! = Ouch! de yo --> Just something she adds to some sentences. Doen't translate. -ai = suffix she adds when talking to friends. Means "Love", and yes, she does it to embarass them.)

((you're probably right. maybe if people see its up and running they'll join it. the Japanese is fine. i plan to keep Chamo's 'aniki' [big brother]and various forms of 'ane-san' [big sister]. just remember that most of the players will probably not be fluent in Japanese.))

By the time the sun was even peeking over the horizon, teacher Negi Springfield was already wide awake and done with the morning session of training with Ku-Fei. Chamo went with him, though they opted to let Asuna and Konoka sleep in. They would be up soon enough, most likely.

Negi stretched in the crisp morning air. "Looks like everything is all set up for MahoraFest tomorrow."

His familiar, Chamo, answered from Negi's shoulder. "Yeah. Lets just hope this year isn't as complicated as last time. Though, feel free to make more partners this year, whether you need them immediately or not."

"That wouldn't have anything to do with the 50,000 ermine dollar (hereafter E$) commission you get for those, would it?"

"What!? Of course not. Well, not entirely."

"I thought so."

"Anyway, aniki, today's training looked pretty intense. Maybe you should grab a bath."

"Well...." Negi never did get over his dislike of baths.

"You can either take one or wait until Asuna-ne-san forces you to. Either way, you're gettin' wet and un-stinky."

Giving up on the fruitless resistance, Negi dutifully reported to the nearest bathhouse. His mind was occupied with everything he associated with MahoraFest, from age-illusion magic to Setsuna in a bunny costume to Chao Lingshen. It wasn't until he rounded the corner in nothing but a towel did he realize the bath wasn't his alone.

(Hence why I provide translations at the bottom of my posts. And to you other peeps, join the madness that is Negima. twisted )

The pitter patter of feet stirred the girl from a delightful rest. Shouldn't it have been an hour or so before the gaggle of girls flocked in? She didn't know, of course, as always sleeping in made it hard to know. Turning around to see who was coming in, she was utterly suprised by the fact that it was a boy.

More like a child, really. But there shouldn't be any on this campus, especially in the girl's dormitory. Sinking down to wear the water was just under her eyes, she tried to hide the best she could. Red hair still made her easy to spot... unless...

No, no! Little ones are harder to decieve! Grabbing her towel from the side of the spa, she placed it over her head, hoping that any steam might help her blend in. There were some buckets for washing off nearby, but the intruder was still to far out to effectively throw one.
